Ryan cops some criticism on here for being soft but he did crash a pack at a crucial time where he got absolutely smashed and it resulted in a goal.

I feel because of his frame people take is as laziness with his body posture during a game but it’s just he’s a gangly type.
Either way good to see him kick 3 goals and put his case forward.

Sonsie McAuliffe Ryan Raso Collier & Wilson my best half dozen today.

Good signs from Faull & Sims as well. Koschitzke solid enough down back, Gray recovered from a horror first half, liked some of the things Jhett Haeata did as well.

Overall a solid round 1 hit out for the boys.

No, his laziness for mine is the complete lack of 2nd efforts

Great to see Sonsie collect a huge number of disposals at VFL level.

From memory he used to hover around the 18d per game which just wasn’t enough to warrant selection.

Was stuff to be dropped in the first place but should certainly come in next week.
You must be referring to pre 2023? Last year whenever he went back to the VFL it would be rare for him to get less than 25 touches.

nah sonsie gets a lot of disposals in the vfl quite often, last year in the 6 games he played he had 27+ 5 times and 19 once

it's that when he's elevated to the afl, he rarely gets played in the same position that he played in the vfl

Fair call.
It's safe to say I didn't pay much attention to our VFL side in 2024 but either way I'm really happy he's proving he is consistently above VFL level and banging on the door to take the next step at AFL level.

can't wait for sonsie to get 7 touches on the flank/wing next week in the seniors cos we're not gonna play him in the midfield

Sonsie’s best attribute is his ability to use the footy, but that degrades quickly when he doesn’t have time and space.

When he has played in the midfield at AFL in spurts over the last few years, that time and space isn’t there.

Even today’s game, found it but when it congested he used it poorly, and he doesn’t have the size, strength, agility or burst of speed to create time and space.

We already have enough guys at AFL level who can find it but don’t use it well enough

Disagree he used it poorly in congestion today. His handballs to the outside of the contest were excellent creating space for teammates. The third quarter especially he was awesome in close.

There wasn't a heap from Sonsie's game that screamed pick me to be honest. He still burns it often enough to just be a meh kick, has zero defensive side and doesn't work hard enough. Again what is his AFL trait that elevates him to the next level? Average disposal, doesn't tackle, not quick, not big and doesn't find the ball at AFL level.

At the moment for me he's still between levels. Too good for VFL not good enough for consistent AFL.

I was more referring to his disposal by foot in congested situations, which were little better than dump kicks.

For those talking up the giraffe, even bloody Colina took a mark inside 50.

Ryan is a genuine liability because he gets out marked regularly and he has no agility. The ball hits the deck in a ruck or marking contest and we are playing a man down.

Faull and Sims were far more competitive in the VFL, as were Armstrong and Blight when he went forward/ruck yesterday.

Absolutely, Come Thursday night if he is named in the side to play, many of our so called fans on here will abuse him and many of whom would not have watched today. Good luck to him and hope he proves many wrong.

Ryan is good at this level. Not translating it to AFL form. I would not be selecting Colina and hayes Brown.
. maybe neither

Last year Kmac2 got AFL games in the middle. Sons had Dow ahead of him. Be interesting to see if Dow is dropped, and Kmac 1 back to the wing
Only problem with Kmac2 he's not a change to our one pace midfield.

McAuliffe would be one of the fastest players on the list?

McAuliffe would be one of the fastest players on the list?
yep.

"North Adelaide utility Kane McAuliffe has shown his impressive athleticism in front of recruiting staff at the 2023 AFL Draft Combine.

Despite battling injuries at times throughout the year, McAuliffe placed in the top ten in three of the physical tests at Melbourne’s Margaret Court Arena, highlighting his well-rounded athletic base.

McAuliffe’s power and speed shone through in the 20m sprint, where he was the fastest South Australian and fifth quickest overall with a time of 2.930 seconds.

Earlier in the combine he was the first Croweater across the line in the 2km time trial, finishing in six minutes and 26 seconds.

The Rooster also featured among the top players in the country in both the running and standing vertical jumps tests, with heights of 95cm and 77cm respectively."

McCarthy got us out of so much trouble. He's a very good and consistent player, especially his second half.
