News North offer for Maynard

He's got the Marley Williams edge on him, but a better player.

Liked his HT interview on Friday night

Interviewer: "Sam Darcy is playing well, how do you look to contain him in the second half."
Maynard: "... Is he? I dunno, he's kicked a couple of goals".

(pretty sure Darcy poleaxed him and got suspended for it last year so Maynard might've been a bit salty)

Half our team in the 90s were thugs... bring it back
It is entwined in our cultural identity and you are 100% correct it is something we need to stop denying.

give me a team of feisty bastards who will hurt the opposition to get the ball.

The pieces to our mens team are just about in place and Maynard could be the final piece ,very much like getting Libby Birch was for us in the womens team...l hope we can get him..

Going by this thread, my view is likely to be in the minority here.

Is he a good player and leader - yep.

But it all comes down to how much we pay him and the length of his contract.

We're going to have Clubs come hard in the next few years to poach our younger guns, we have to be smart in how we manage our salary cap.

I get that people like that he's bolshy but you have to question whether a rising 29 year old flanker who finished equal 8th in their B&F is deserved of that type of payday.

Personally, I think we already have a 23yo Maynard running around - his name is J Archer. Will he end up as good? Maybe not, but he can play and takes care of a need.

Personally, I'd be investing that level of coin and length of contract in areas of need - like a Logan Morris type. Young, talented KP prospects.

As long as we can unload players along the way, like i said it would surely only be a modest increase to the tpp for example if done in conjunction with say not renewing ccjs contract. The term would be the only issue.
Also dont we have an extra list position concession stull?

Just make it happen. He is tough and has that real arseh*le about him.

These type of top up recruits is exactly what we need to keep climbing up the ladder and to have around the young boys

Is he tough? Genuine question. Don’t watch too many Pies games and when I do I see a lot of ‘angry’ posturing but not heaps of Archer style ‘put your body on the line’ moments- real toughness. But as I said I really don’t watch them enough to know. Hopefully the answer is yes if we do go all out for him.

Ditto for me. Maynard doesn't seem weak, but he's hardly a wrecking ball. And my God can he posture.
I would prefer Branden Starcevich (turning 26 in July) as a restricted free agent.
He tends to play on the oppos best small forward (a specific need in our team).

Only alert - does have concussion issues :(

FWIW here is the FOX review of his GF performance last year ...

One of, if not the greatest defensive turnaround in back-to-back grand finals by any single player. Was shown up in last year’s big dance by Norm Smith Medallist Bobby Hill, but this year was absolutely in the running to win his own. Had an intercept mark inside the first 45 seconds of the game, and was on fire for the rest of the term – with the exception of a small blip that led to Tom Papley’s first goal for the day. Was absolutely everywhere in defence for the Lions in the first half, and led the match for intercept possessions at the main break alongside Sydney’s Lewis Melican. Doesn’t often get the praise he deserves, but put on one of the all-time masterclasses on the biggest of stages today. Finished with a game-high intercepts... so good. 9

My people were discussing this in the crowd last night - is the breaking news part the extra detail? Watching him every week, I’d love him, but also not getting my hopes up.

Here's H2H surrounded by "her people". What a fine bunch they are. Sorry H2H couldn't resist

Roos’ Maynard trump card, Pendlebury interest revealed

North Melbourne want to bring a pair of Magpie veterans to the club in a bid to land some more premiership experience — and they have a trump card to get it done. See more in Moneyball.

Collingwood star Brayden Maynard would join his brother, Corey, at North Melbourne if he accepts a blockbuster offer to play for the Kangaroos next season.
Maynard, 28, will weigh up a blockbuster offer worth as much as $6 million over six years to move to Arden St as an unrestricted free agent.
And North could also have an added trump card up its sleeve with Maynard’s brother, Corey, working at the club since 2022 as head of wellbeing and player development.

Corey Maynard played two games at Melbourne in 2017-18 and has since become a popular member of the Roos’ off-field team under coach Alastair Clarkson.

North enjoyed a breakthrough win over Melbourne on Sunday and have targeted Maynard for his hardness, leadership, defensive nous and team ethic.
The Kangaroos believe they are on the rise and want to add a Luke Hodge-style defensive general to bolster the back half.
And the club has significant salary cap room to add some more top-line talent in the belief the team is on the rise after years down the bottom of the AFL ladder.
The Kangaroos also have interest in Collingwood champion Scott Pendlebury as an assistant coach when he winds up his brilliant playing career.
Pendlebury’s brother, Ryan, works as an assistant coach in the AFLW program, continuing the family ties.
The connections could bolster the Roos’ bid to land some more premiership experience to the club after missing out on a string of A-Grade recruiting targets over the past decade.

Collingwood has several key players out of contract at season’s end including Norm Smith medallist Bobby Hill, gun ruckman Darcy Cameron and Maynard.
But at least one of the trio could find a new home as a trade or free agency move could secure the Magpies a first-round pick in this year’s draft.
Collingwood has already traded its first-round pick in this year’s draft to land Port Adelaide star defender Dan Houston in last year’s trade period.
The Magpies have interest in star Gold Coast onballer Matt Rowell and West Coast free agent Oscar Allen.
Maynard is a beloved figure at Collingwood but would earn significantly more at North Melbourne on $1 million-a-season instead of $600,000 – $700,000 a year at Collingwood for two or three seasons.
As an unrestricted free agent, Collingwood would not be able to match a big-money offer from North Melbourne for him.
Free agency compensation could secure Collingwood a first-round draft choice pending the terms of the final offer from the Kangaroos.

Pendles coaching after he stops playing makes more sense, but is also a bit of a nothing story, future idea, tacked onto the Maynard one.

There are reports we “may” look at recruiting the entire Collingwood team.

If we did, we’d be in the “box seat” thanks to looking like the same team when viewed on a black and white tv.

Sources tell me the offer for the team “could be up to” a gazillion dollary-doos, and “perhaps as much as” a 99 year term.

Apparently Collingwood “haven’t completely ruled it out” (not having heard).

While the AFL would need to sign off on the deal, sources say “they could be swayed” (with money).

So sick of AFL “media”
