Gather Round tickets snapped up in record time

The AFL is pleased to announce that more than 195,000 Gather Round…Festival of Footy tickets have sold… with five of the nine games sold out, 20,000 more than this time last year.

Member on sale on Tuesday saw a significant uplift in demand for tickets this year, selling more than 100,000 tickets in the first four hours, in comparison to the same amount in 24 hours last year.

This year there are an extra 47,000 tickets on offer for fans with the two Saturday matches being ticketed separately.

Tickets still remain for Collingwood vs Sydney Swans on Friday night, Carlton vs West Coast on Saturday afternoon, Melbourne vs Essendon on Saturday night and a very limited number of restricted view tickets and tickets for the Pepsi Collective for Port Adelaide vs Hawthorn on Sunday evening.

AFL CEO Andrew Dillon said it was clear Gather Round momentum was not slowly down.

“The demand for tickets this year was significantly higher than the first two Gather Rounds, with more than 195,000 tickets being purchased in the first two days,” said Mr Dillon.

“A ticket to the matches at the Barossa Park was always going to be one of the hottest tickets in town and the fans have certainly illustrated that by selling out both matches so quickly.”

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas said: “Gather Round continues to exceed all expectations.

“We are honoured that so many footy fans from around the country are making the commitment to travel to our beautiful state to experience this event like no other.

“They’ll be truly welcome.

“If you haven’t got a ticket already – get in quick!”

Tickets for the remaining matches can be found here.

Stop the doom and gloom lol, will easily be over 25k.
If Essendon has a home game under 20K it would be the worst crowd of the year.
Your mob often get battered by BigFooty members when there is a poor crowd at the 'G. I think we should/will deserve our right whack tonight if it is under 20,000 k. No excuses

Why? School / work night. Being rationale for a second. Why would you expect people to go tonight and criticise them if they don’t? If they go tonight they’re either certified or / and a real die hard fan. I’m not going to begrudge them deciding to watch on TV tonight.

Demonstrate how that would be possible based on facts?

Shite Essendon historically draw 27,500-29,000 against the Dockers / Power in a normal slot.

We know that the Thursday impact is ~20%. Thst sees the attendance around the figure I’ve called.

I might be wrong but I’m trying to lean on past crowds as a guide.
Apart from 2016 Essendon's crowds have been good since 1994 when they've been down.I think there might be a good walk up early in the season game I think your wrong predicting a crowd with the number 1 starting in front of it.

Happy to put bet on it if it get gets closer to 30 I will change my club support to Essendon for a week if it's closer to 19,000 you change your's to Carlton for a week on your profile.😁

No bets, I’m broke!!!

Just going off past attendances to guide this one. I reckon it will be around the 23/24..

Only other recent build was a late season dead rubber Shite Essendon / Power game round 22, 2022 twilight Sunday.. That drew 20,508. I suspect being earlier in the season might mean tonight gets a tad more. Let’s see..

ticket sales are better than North v Melbourne last week were, we just had a big GA turnout. Don't be surprised if that is the case again tonight.
Level 3 is also open all the way around which means they are expecting more than 30k, at least that is what the stewards told us last week.
Don’t be confused with the entirety of level 3 being open as a guide. EFC have reserved seat member seats on both sides on level 3, only the areas behind the goals don’t have club member seating. Thst requires the entire level 3 be open obviously. It won’t draw 28,700 I can almost be sure of that.

That’s why you Rock up each week.

Some of the fondest footy memories are the small crowds made up of the faithful.

Agreed. It was definitely loud tonight in that last quarter. When you have 25,000 bomber fans going beserk in the final quarter against an interstate side, it’s pretty fun!

The only Essendon home crowds in nearly 30 years that are lower than last night:

Almost every one is from the drug ban wooden spoon year of 2016 or the covid hangover year of 2022. Last night was the type of crowd you might expect for a dead rubber at the end of a bad season, not in Round 3.

Still, the ones who did show up would've had an amazing time and they can really carry this momentum into their next home game in {checks notes} five weeks' time in Round 8.

Surely it’s a public sell out with lower than average blues membership turn out and and [emoji640][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]]K Rock up?

Dogs fans be bullish

Tonights crowd 34,700
I was thinking similarly earlier in the week, but the game has sold very well to the public and is now showing as sold out on Ticket Master

Member show-rate will be poorer than usual, lots of fans unhappy with how the season has begun. But in theory a sold-out Marvel should push 40k.

The crowd was identical to their only other Thursday night fixture against the Giants in 2019 which drew 25,195 (thought this crowd might’ve been worth including in your list 🤔), at the time Bombers a game outside the 8 (Giants 3rd). Round 3 status not overly relevant, nobody thinks Essendon is playing finals footy this year and last week was a mess..

Thursday night crowd 15-20% factor, likely draws 29-31k in a weekend slot (excl Sunday twilight). Based on historical attendances for poor Bombers, this is exactly on expectation.

People sleep on just how small a drawcard Port Adelaide are compared to how much media attention they get.

And Thursday night crowds are only good if it's 2 local teams. The Thursday effect is really amplified at the lower interest games.

The crowd was reasonable, it wasn’t a poor crowd for the night.

I'm basing my prediction on member show-rate the area I was in last week was very sparse.

My apologies for not including a crowd that was higher than last night's crowd on my list of crowds lower than last night's crowd. :)

Yes, that’s true… I guess that’s my role to add value to your stats! PS: Where do we go to find the list of crowds for a given fixture? For example, if I just want to see the list of crowds for Bombers / Power in this case? Highest to lowest. All I can seem to find on AFL tables is the highest or lowest crowds only..

Go to AFL Tables and into Essendon or Port Adelaide's page and you can get a list by opponent - if you click on the column headings it will order the list:

It's good for a quick look through. For anything further you need to devote a ridiculous amount of time creating your own spreadsheets so that you can filter however you want to find stats that are of interest to 2 or 3 other nerds people.
