Coach Carlton and Michael Voss - where to now

The 4 points is everything. Do not know how they lost to the tigers. They have played o/kg against the hawks and dogs without getting the win. Do not think they will make the 8 so Voss could be in trouble.

Agreed on all points.

Voss looks like he knows what’s coming

So who will thr blooze chiooze as their next messiah?

Goodwin would have to be a chance wouldn’t he?

Premiership drought winning coach , plus loves the good life off the field.
Would most certainly Bring back the blue bagger swagger!

at least Elijah hollands would be rapt !
Ken Hinkley lol

I'd be all for that just for the Hawks games. Get him out as a runner on field to send out messages to whoever's playing on Ginnivan and Sicily.
Hinkley has experience taking lopsided lists to top 2 finishes. Maybe Carlton wouldn't choke home finals the way Port did. Two prelims he got them within a kick of knocking off a dynasty side.

It really isn't the worst shout.

Personally love Ken but wouldn't want him as our next coach purely because of the fans contempt for him. If we went Voss>Hinkley I think half the supporters would be furious before he even got started.

Wouldn't mind him in as a director of coaching type role if Voss was to stay on to the end of the contract.

An interesting bit on Voss & the Blues by Hoyne today. Our offensive profile has been fantastic for large chunks of games this season but falls away for stretches within games which results in us capitulating.

Then goes on to say last year we basically had the best offensive profile in the league up until round 16. We then reverted to bombing it down the line again for some bizarre reason which was our old method and the season went up in smoke shortly afterwards.

The same's occurring within games this season with our offensive profile and ball movement looking very very good for parts of games but then reverting to the long down the line rubbish which has led to our demise over and over again.

Coaching? Form? Pressure? Incompetent players? Fitness? Hard to get a read for me. If it was poor coaching or bad players I wouldn't think we'd have the ability to perform as well as we have in stretches through seasons or patches in games.

Did say our defensive profile is looking very good so far which is an improvement from last year and closer to our 2023 numbers.

An interesting watch in the month ahead.

Hinkley copped hate from Port fans before he started, simply because he wasn't Rodney Eade.

I'd be far more impressed if Champion Data predicted Carltons slump instead of tweaking the algorithm to "explain" it afterwards.

It's plain to see Carlton have quality, and problems converting dominance into scores.

Frankly I'm more interested in your view than Hoynes.

For myself I'm persuaded by the "full jar" theory.

I've made my views fairly clear in many threads before. I don't think the Blues issues are anywhere near as bad as many fans do, both blues and oppos alike.

We have an imbalanced list in terms of outside class vs inside grunt and most of the players we do have that can provide a bit of run and skill are terribly out of form or a bit underdone still.

Whether that turns around soon or not is something we unfortunately can't predict, but I'd expect some significant changes to be made to the list to try and balance that out even if it means losing a big name or two. The list profile is just at a bit of a fork in the road moment.

As for Voss? I think he's an average coach with a somewhat limited list. He's had them playing some pretty fantastic footy over the last few years for large stretches, so he's clearly not a complete buffoon. But at the same time he's overseen multiple stretches of insipid footy. So its a bit of a 50/50 call for mine.

Do I want him fired mid season? No.

Would I be fine seeing him moved on for someone with a better track record such as Hinkley, Longmire or even a gun up and comer? Yes.

Don't mind either way.

I meant more your view on the side rather than Voss. I think even regular joes have a better view than some gambling company floggo.

I'm on the same page: I think Voss is a good coach, just hasn't delivered yet.

Like all coaches needs support to build his list. His forte is toughness and contests, I think he's less good at fringe development and bargains. Give him a Fagan-style "nice guy" assitant who builds up the skills of the second and third tier, and someone to bring in MSD bargains and left field projects.

So same as the list: the coaches and admin need all the pieces, not just the king pieces.

I think OP is gloating a bit. If Voss fails and is sacked that's on the board and coteries. You've had several promising coaches who fell over I think because they didn't have the resourcing around them.

Goodwin certainly knows a lot about bags.
So he's well prepared.
