He was pretty good in the 2023 run. Pretty ****ing good....

One passage of play in I think the second sums up McGovern.

Does a great intercept mark on the wing. Randomly plays on with noone ahead of play and kicks it out of bounds.

His great is there. But he seems to have 0 football IQ with ball in hand.

We're back as the league laughing stock...oppo clubs again making us the butt of jokes...almost like pity put downs.

I'm completely over it. Season has gone from hope to worry to despair...now well and truly moving into the anger phase.

Season is pretty much over...and don't give me the "but there's plenty of time to get the season back on track". We've got nothing...the game has well and trly gone past us.

I listened to Voss this morning. Same sh1t

Contest, contest, contest. IMO we win the contest and then what?? This is where the problem is and why we are falling a part. We work hard win the contest and then can't score. It wears players down. We have NO answers

We play ugly football and sides pick us a part. Oppositions know if they stay in it with us early we can't kick a big enough score to win

The buck stops with the coach but there is no way he is 100% the reason for this…nor was he in 23….fish rots at the head….its football department related.

I don’t see Voss much different to Hardwick…the difference is Richmond were smart enough (Balme) to surround him with great tactical nous…and they played to their strengths…our only strength is contest and once we lose that we’re toast

I think it makes a huuuuuuuge world of difference when we have players who will bang it on the boot without taking even a split second to weigh up their surroundings. No names needed - you know the usual suspects.

Then on the Pies you have players like the Daicos', Pendlebury, Sidebottom just to name a few who will always look to handball to a teammate and to advantage. They have the composure, the confidence and the vision to execute that handball to a teammate in space.

Imagine how many more looks they get going forwards when they retain possession of the ball rather than doing a dump kick to a contest...

Fair to say we see it very differently. Hardwick is actually very tactically astute. Voss isn't close

I have seen all 4 games live this year. What is VERY obvious is how well structured/drilled sides are and we aren't. The way players spread and get to a position and then players know where to go and where a player will be. Hawks were brilliant at it. Pies and Dogs do it okay as well.

We play like an Under 14 side. Individuals going hard and bombing it forward. No system or team play. It's awful and predictable

Correct, Hardwick actually changed his game plan after 2016. As tiger mates point out to me, he went from a deliberate stop-start stoppage game that worked ok but not good enough to moving the ball at all costs in the front half to create panic and chaos in the opposition defence.

Even at our best with this team, it's still been that player winning a contest and moving it fast that won games, not having a system that means players run and spread and know where teammates will be.

Yesterday it was contest though. We couldn't win a contest to save ourselves in that 3rd quarter. It was abysmal.

Not that the first half was great by any stretch. We were lucky to be in front at half time.

Agree that we look like a “see ball, get ball” team right now - I think a lot of that might stem from the make-up of the team; the midfield are virtually all stoppage specialists who are sometimes expected to be the outside option. We even turned our best outside options in Cerra & Walsh into inside players (although I concede they’re both slow in an AFL midfield sense).

Recruiting Smith, regardless of the knee, was/is not the solution. The coaching and list management errors are intrinsically linked and we’re really paying the price for it this season.

Yep. Did you catch Adam Simpson's segment on AFL 360? Where he spoke about small bubble / big bubble. That teams start in the small bubble, then burst out when they win the ball to make space and give the ball carrier options.

I looked out for it, and we set up wide so quickly, that by the time the player looks up the ground is already set up defensively and there's no space at all. All we've got is the slow switch (this doesn't work) or the invariable long bomb down the ground.

Yep. Paying the price imo for sitting on our hands a little too much over the last two trade periods. Thinking the list we have is good enough and not reading the direction in which the game was heading.

It's been like this for a very long time. Nothing has changed. That's on all the coaches.

OK We are shite - we all know that - Collingwood should have won by 10 goals
Men against boys - we have no mongrel in is - nobody fears us
TDK will go and who would blame him - no success on our horizon - may as well take the big bucks on offer from Saints
Voss has no idea - but JC couldnt coach this lot to a flag
Another long miserable winter with our club being laughed at and ridiculed
40 year member - wont renew next year if they keep this shite up
Turn the lights off on the way out

Listening to Voss’s press conferences, we don’t even sound like we’re a football club anymore.

Just listen to Voss sounds like we are trying to turn into a dower robot of structure, game plan and being a good bloke/team mate, with no fun or flair (Hawthorn).

Release the shackles FFS.

This sounds weird, listening to Voss (It feels weird, like we’re not even trying to be a football team anymore, like we’re superior)

Voss said “We don’t focus on winning or losing only on the system we want to play”

Don’t hold your breath with changes.

When asked Voss said “We decided, we want to settle the team. The team haven’t played much football together”

Docherty, McGovern, Haynes, Hollands, Motlop, Fogarty & Williams all have free rein of underperforming.
Voss is crazy 🤪

We moved house in July last year. I’ve attended every game in Melbourne since, as always. We’ve won one of them (and that was lucky).

The rest of the league should be ashamed that they ever allowed this team to be clear in second.
