He had 27 touches playing off the wing @ 63% efficiency in tough conditions, gained 670+ meters (highest on the ground) and was the third highest ranked player on the ground overall, so yeah, he had a good game.
He pulled out of at least 3 contests, one that cost us a goal in the 3rd quarter when they made their move. Even had the gall to tell Ollie off for not being closer to Schultz even though Doc was in a far better position to impact the contest. He cannot stick a tackle at all. He is playing very selfish football. He is certainly no orphan as a few others, McGovern and Williams most notably, have been as bad if not worse. IMO we need to move past all 3 asap. Unfortunately that won’t happen until the end of the year because we don’t have any ready made replacements and injuries (once again) are taking their toll. It’s hard to see any of those blokes being dropped for the next game especially after Cowan did his hammy.

Doc’s disposal efficiency and meters gained are so high because he blind bombs the ball with the majority of his kicks.
Doc looks like the game has passed him by, just doesn't have the touch and feel of the game anymore, routinely makes poor decisions, it's almost like he is trying to compensate and tries too hard and isn't handling the heat. He needs a spell in the 2s to get some form and confidence.

I'm going to say something contraversial here. I'm not sure how Elijah and Harry could be sitting there watching this debacle and not be squirming in their seats. We all face hardship, harden up and get out there to help. I wish I was on $800,000 per year because I front up every day for a fraction of that, no matter what.

Post of the night.

Sign of the times I'm afraid...

Removing Kennedy from the midfield was supposed to balance it out. We had too many ball hunters and not enough who spread from the contest. This is an area types like Walsh, Cerra, E.Hollands and Smith excel in but obviously 2 have been unavailable and the other 2 are pretty much taking over that Kennedy role playing as heavy inside midfielders. If this is by design we might as well have kept Kennedy

Owies is a very limited footballer. Poor applier of defensive pressure, poor crumbing ability, poor positional awareness and was only a 1 goal/game player against non-bottom 4 sides. Would not improve this team at all.

People on here give Motlop so much crap as a 21 year old who is currently offering 5x more in those areas than Owies ever did. Had 15 score involvements, 11 tackles and 2.4 against Hawks/Dogs and people were calling for him to be omitted.
Disagree on Owies.

He was our best positional forward.

A player with limited ability, his ability to be “in the right place” saw him kick 30+ goals in his last 2 seasons with us.

Who else do we have to play this role?

It was a stupid decision to be rid of him.

Anyone who could run and not let Pendlebury do as he wanted?
A 50% Cripps is just letting the team down, making everyone else work harder because he cant impact the contest and cant put any pressure on his direct opponent.
Well whoever else we had (nothing) wouldn’t have done better. If we had Kennedy still on the list Cripps may have sat out.

Let's try not to be so black and white about thing. I get that he has become whipping boy #1 but he wasn't 'awful'.

He played his role as a wing and competed with Daicos/Side bottom well. He got to his spots and got the ball as a receiver.

I thought Collingwood did a great job all game of attacking our receivers on the outside and pressuring them. Doch was bottled up for space a bit and doesn't have the physical capability to deal with it.

But sorry, if you had said ore game he would outplay Daicos and have 27 touches and 600+ meters gained I would have taken that in an instant.

He had 2 score involvements.
2 from 27 disposals.

Daicos had 4, including a goal assist. That's not being outplayed.

Josh Daicos - the wing. Doch and Acres switched up at times but our wings actually outplayed there's by any measure. Given both had been out of form that was important for us not getting whalloped

But stats do matter, at least in what they represent.

As much as almost anyone on the ground Docherty was in the right positions and moving the ball forward to our advantage.

He's not the tough physical player he was, and still doesn't look fully confident. But his impact on the game was third highest by AFL rankings, and describing that as 'terrible' is just wrong.

AFL rankings do overrated meters gained and effective disposal imo... But you know what, for Carlton right now those are our biggest problems and Docherty did that well in hard conditions (windy and raining).

He also suffered as all our runners did, from Collingwood's pressure. I thought they did an excellent job of hitting our outside runners quickly. They knew where we like to go to and targetted those spots. Docherty had a lot less time and space and was ok.

Look, I don't think we will watch a highlight reel in 30 years time and fondly remember this game from Docherty alongside Kouta's last quarter in the 99 prelim.

But to describe him as terrible is just feelings taking over
Sorry to have confused Daicoseses.
I don’t think Josh haas been in good form for a while, and not a good measure of Doch’s performance anyway.

I don’t want to seem like I have any issues with your posts, I don’t agree and that’s all good.

As for letting emotions control the facts, maybe your emotional attachment to Doch is clouding your assessment?

Not sure if you can be bothered but having watched his games this year there has been very few positives. Very few times he has been involved in a passage of play that has meaningfully benefitted the team.

Dropped marks, missed handballs, errant kicks, and soft attempts, over committing pressure acts and wilting under pressure.

I love Doch but he has been terrible and sometimes the data is painting a false picture. Was he really good last night regardless of player rankings?

Goes to appalling list management and unbalanced and full salary cap.

I would persist with White, thought he put in enough effort, JSOS looks good in the back half. Hollands I know copped some grief, but I thought he provided some run and carry. Hewett was solid all night long.

Just glad we've got a new fitness team because we're certainly running out games nicely at the moment.
But can't stick a tackle...or break one (Hollands)

Really. Harry with his goal kicking woes on years past and other traits has a bit of a fragility in the confidence/mental rigours of the game. The pressure of being a KPP on 800k doesn’t help. Add whatever the current set back is to his mental health and he’s the type that appears to be more inclined to walk away if he’s just not in the right headspace any longer.
Sorry, but it’s a ridiculous notion that Harry is about to retire & Elijah is finished.

This kind of rubbish is typical of the unhelpful trolling pile-on.

This was my post from 24 hours ago. I didn't watch Vossy's press conference so I'm not sure if I got that right but everything else was just about spot on.

Disgustingly predictable.
Yep I gave the exact same synopsis to some friends before the game who were saying they thought we’d win. The good news (of sorts) is that Voss certainly was not proud of the effort at all. He actually spoke well in his presser. There is such a fine line on what they can say publicly (maybe even privately) as the players nowadays are so sensitive so they need to be careful dolling out criticism otherwise players complaint to their families and/or manager then don’t play citing personal issues.

When are the coaches going to have the balls to coach Charlie, last quarter playing behind the whole time. He needs to lead.
Time to put Charlie in the midfield, see if he can play. We don't have one marking option in the forward line so maybe we can just kick it over their head for midfield goals..

I said I wouldn’t be shocked if Harry retires. We’ve seen plenty of players do it.

And from past history how we’ve dealt with problem players, Elijah may not be done as a footballer but in recent times we’re more inclined to let them go.

I’m 35 in October this year, I was 4 the last time we won a flag so I don’t remember, but pretty much for as long as I can remember, we ALWAYS lose to Collingwood.. When will this club wake up to itself and stop letting our number 1 arch enemy run all over us.. I’m sick of losing to them. Don’t they get sick of seeing those old flogs Pendlebury and Sidebottom running rings around them making them look like they’re in their peak? At this point it’s a one sided rivalry and that’s not fun for both sets of supporters. We don’t care about the jumper, the history of this club, we don’t care about premierships or being the best in the league… I’ve known nothing but mediocrisy watching this team week in week out.. It’s actually depressing watching this sh*tshow of a season

When are the coaches going to have the balls to coach Charlie, last quarter playing behind the whole time. He needs to lead.
We targeted him twice in the first quarter for 1.1

About 4 times in the second half

Nothing to do with his positioning

He tried the coaches box thing, but I think since Hansen is obviously calling the shots up there he's doing a Hinkley and thinks he's best placed to be on the bench and appear to be doing something.

I think if we ditched one of our assistant coaches, it might give Voss a chance to actually coach a line and get a feel for it again. Free up some cash for a good psych or physio or consultant.
Oh I agree. I was also saying 'at half time' because whatever he's saying to them. They aren't doing.)

Josh Daicos - the wing. Doch and Acres switched up at times but our wings actually outplayed there's by any measure. Given both had been out of form that was important for us not getting whalloped

Josh Daicos had 31 @ 74% and 4 score involvements
Acres 30 @ 56% and 2 si
Doc 27 @ 63% and 2 si

So there are some measures that say our wings didn't outplay theirs.

Kane Cornes & David King on SEN this morning mentioned we are too tall, and its hard to argue against this.

Being 'not proud' or disappointed means SFA when he still has no answers as to why the 3rd quarter happened...again.. Our issue is not personal, its an inability to react when the opposition take away our strengths.. Voss and the coaches set the game up well hence our first half leads, but during the game when the oppo coach reacts we are a deer in headlights with no ability to counter.

Look at his goals in 2024 - he averaged pretty much 1 goal/game against non-bottom 4 sides. If he was giving us other things in the areas I mentioned I wouldn't mind but he didn't.
