Getting rid of Allan for pick 3 would be a huge coup for the eagles.
Two top 5 picks would put them in a good place next year as they actually have some other guys projected in the terms and 20s in this draft tied to them via academy and FS.
They will still be years away though.
Nah **** that, still some chirpy eagles at work. I hope Allen and Reid both stay. They need to be humbled more. Once the crowds stop showing up that's when you know they are broken. It also helps if the top WA boys are all freo NGA ;)

So what are we getting for Erasmus this year? 3rd round pick if we are lucky or will he be a delisted free agent?

Unless JL goes I can't see why he would stay.

Yep

Will be lucky if that.

What’s frustrating is it’s not like he’s not improving and is somehow confirmed bust

Kid was basically best mid in the wafl by the end of the year
(Backed up both his pre lim and GF performances and finishing top 5 in the sandover despite missing 5 games) all at the age of 20

Brodie then asks for a trade.
Fyfe retires, most likely.
Aish delisted.

Suddenly there’s no midfield depth.

I wouldn't want to sign for more than two years at Freo if I were him. So three years anywhere and he should take it. We will be losing players to age end of this year and next, it could open the door for him. But he needs to cement himself in the best team somewhere or his career will end.

Unfortunately the elephant in the room is still there next season. OMeara

How the hell we signed him for 4 years, I’ll never understand

O'Meara is still a better player than Erasmus though. Surely the onus is on Neil to be bigger, stronger, faster, more damaging than someone in the 23?

If we could have gotten a pick in the 30's last year I think the club would have taken it for Erasmus.

Not every first round pick makes it at AFL level, Sutcliffe and Sheridan were early picks.

Poor skills and slow decision making, fine in the WAFL but gets exposed at AFL level.

I'd take Cooper Simpson and Murphy Reid with another pre-season under their belt over Erasmus.

Shai Bolton will get more midfield time with Kozzi Pickett in purple.

Bro your Omeara hate is next level and kind of unhinged. He's playing well.

What's the deal?

If you consider pick 70+ early then sure Sutcliffe was an early pick.

It’s very disappointing tbh.

Think he’s occasionally looked pretty good at AFL level including last week. Not sure he’s played over five games in row since maybe his first year. We stuck with about half our best 22 for ages when they were young despite them at stages playing quite average.

I don’t think we have any other big bodied inside mids on our list outside our best 22 next year except Brodie who’s surely not answer after no playing an AFL game in almost two years. Outside of perhaps talls it’s probably the most important role to have depth in and the situation that’s staring us in the face was reasonably avoidable.

Think JL is valuing attitude and defensive running over actual football ability. It’s the only way I can begin to comprehend how Worner is ahead of Aish (and Chapman in Round One) and now appears to have been picked ahead of Erasmus for a sub role. But hey, I might be wrong - JL might pick Worner in the 22 and make Jordan Clark the sub this week.

Agree 💯

As you said in earlier post my big worry is that Erasmus ****s off end of the year and Aish delisted , only to then have Fyfe pull the pin , Brodie obviously gone and of course JOM the following year and all of a sudden we have virtually zero big inside mid depth outside of shuffling players from other positions.

So whilst we meant to be smack bang contending we’ll be back to first /second yr draftees for our immediate depth in the most crucial part of the ground.

All at the same time Ras will still be ONLY 22/23

But what really annoying to me is this idea of “ oh we’re not in the stage gifting games “ , our aim is to compete in big finals blah blah
but tell me what the **** have these people seen from this team so far this year(after perhaps the greatest talk up of prospects pre season from a freo team in I can remember since RTB days , you know when ACTUALLY played off in big finals) to suggest we’re anywhere near that stage of development yet?
In fact at the rate this teams progressing we’d be lucky to make finals

What a waste to see Ras walk end of this year and we don’t even make the 8!

I mean that line of thinking might have some credence if where bringing back a gun in young or experienced head in Fyfe but we’re doing neither
And again it’s not like Ras was a passenger jlo talked him up post game so he’s either doing something right and what’s asked of him but still dropped coz jlos does have favs or he’s simply full of shit

I’m not sure what’s worse

O'Driscoll, Bolton, Reid, Chapman, and even Pickett when we get him next year. We will have plenty we can run through the midfield.
Not one of those players is a Bona fide inside mid or first possesion/clearance mid tho

I mean for starter’s odriscoll is already playing there ,
Bolten is fwd first with stints mid and is already doing that now

Chapman has not as far as I know played any inside mid minutes and if /when he does it’ll be as a winger -and jlos still hasn’t trialled him in a game for any extended period even there yet

Reid I ageee will eventually be starting mid but asking him to do inside grunt work in his second yr and considering the value he brings to our team currently in other positions would be very poor player management

And finally picketts just like Bolten but with even less mid time , especially considering we desperately need both as fwds the majority of game

You can’t argue that we need to play Erasmus ahead of JOM cause he’s younger and at the same time say we need to play aish instead of Worner. Pick a lane.

Say what ?

Way to miss a point
I never said explicitly play Ras ahead of JOM.
I agree he should be in this week

The selection I don’t agree with worner over Ras meaning we’re back to 8 defenders in the team.

My only point with regards to jom/ras is that one will be finished within 12 mths the other still potentially has his entire career ahead of him

And playing/ not playing JOM sure as shit won’t be the difference between us contending/not contending this yr regardless but we could potentially lose Ras in the process meaning we end up with nothing on both fronts

as long as Ras is warranting of spot in the team he should be played at every opportunity as it’s the only way hes going to continue to develop meaningfully from here on in.
