There were 3 moments at yesterday’s training session that got me excited..all 3 involved the ‘flying Viking’ Alix Tauru!
The first was he took possession of the footy and accelerated, took a bounce, then hit a teammate on the chest.
It was the speed he hit, I didn’t realise he had that next gear, as he usually runs smoothly and effortlessly accross the the turf.
The second was an incredible vertical leap off one step to affect a spoil, then, about 5 minutes later he took a magnificent pack mark in a group of about 8 players!
This from a young guy that’s only recently started full training!!

I remember when we got Riewoldt Brian Waldron watched him in the under 18 champs and said he took a mark in the defensive goal square, next minute he was marking on the wing and next thing he was taking a grab in the attacking goal square. He came back to the club and said ‘it’s almost worth finishing on the bottom to get this kid because he is so good’.
I’m not saying Tauru is the next Roo (or maybe I am) but he’s got similar wow factor and with our current coaching set up he’s got the the best chance to fulfil his potential.
I might just go and have a cold shower.

I think he's more like Jeremy Howe/Trevor Barker or if he goes forward a bit of Aaron Naughton. He's an aerial specialist who will make people come to watch matches.

Rooey was a good footballer with a champion attitude and work rate. I think for pure tricks and talent Tauru would have him covered but the attitude will be the deciding factor for how good he ends up.

I think Ross Lyon at least gives young players every chance of maximising their natural abilities by tying it to a baseline of hard work and effort.

Almost went yesterday but thought, recovery/prep training not much happens.

Have witnessed the Tauru glides, but not the leap.
9.30 tomorrow morning AFL app to watch Sandy.

Keep a close eye on Leek Aleer…fair chance he’s ours end of this year

A great post there saintmike65.

It was certainly "eye popping" watching some of "Vikings" moments yesterday.

What struck me was how tall he is.......he was standing next to Hammer and they appeared to be the same height.....I'm not sure about the official height stats.

Either he's gone up a few cm's in height on or I need to book an appt at OPSM.

Get excited folks !!!!!!!!!!

Pre Christmas I was surprised how lacking in height Tauru was. He looked a little undersized.
After Christmas he was standing next to Macrae and I think Sharman and he was taller than both. Must have had a growth spurt as he looked taller and stronger after Christmas.

Could be quite a few more growth spurts cum 9:30 tomorrow morning 😎

I think when we drafted him he was still growing, hence the stress factures in the spine. Would not be surprised if he is now closer to 196cm than 193cm.

Chris Grant taken a million years ago by the Bulldogs grew something like 8 cm over his first preseason.
I am sure Alix grew a bit between first seeing him early preseason to when he was in rehab in mid Feb.

Generally, males can grow up until 23 years old or so.

Marketing dream..

Must be a difficult sell though - Howard and Wilkie not spring chickens, but they’re there (and one is a jet), Hammer looks to have found his spot, and we have Tauru and Barrat, albeit I could see Tauru being a forward. Aleer would be wanting an immediate spot.

I was actually a little taken aback yesterday when I first glanced at him(when he wasn't moving) from about 30 feet away on how tall he is.

People either side of me were saying the same thing.

Surely he hadn't sprouted that much since last Nov/Dec !!!!!!!

He hasn't been out on the track all that often since he arrived at the club.....he was always in the gym on the bikes.

I remember a session or two before xmas....he was riding one of the "super bikes" on the boundary line.....he got off the bike and I thought "he doesn't look that big in stature.

Spot on Saint Ray. He had his problems last year, which was partly to blame on a growth spurt. It's good to hear he looks taller than the 193 cm he was listed when he was drafted. As Mrs. Godot and I have been telling you, he's going to be a Roo-like gun!
