As if the AFL doesn't have enough meaningless medals already and isn't already corporatised to the max.

We now have some monstrosity called the "Richard Pratt medal" I assume for whenever Collingwood play Carlton? Named after some bloke because he was rich?

WTF?

This guy was involved in bribery, corruption and violent thuggery and the AFL treat him like a Saint?

He was a crook. Now lauded by a crook league. Disgrace.

If LS had said it was an honor to win the award, I would have lost my guts right there.

Surely we can find a better calibre of person to have an award named after?

E.g. someone who did stuff for others (not just money and status), and who wasn't a corrupt campaigner?

(As if we need more awards).

The game itself is for a great cause, but that award is the pits, I would rather Collingwood either played against someone else, or let someone else play Carlton, it's cringe to be associated with it.

Richard Pratt is one of the worst criminals in Australian history - he stole billions of dollars from Australians. What's next - Martin Bryant medal for the best on Field in Tassie?
Australians love nothing more than tucking their knees under the dinner table of crooked billionaires.

And crooked billionaires love nothing more than being associated with wholesome sports people to make themselves look good.

It's a pretty gross symbiotic relationship.

Note how Dane Rampe remembered to thank the Murdoch family after his side got demolished in last year's GF.

Couldnt remember how to tackle that day but somehow remembered to ass lick the Murdochs.

Gross.

It's no different to the Anzac medal. 16 clubs are excluded from winning it.

Must say, until Thursday night I'd never heard of the Pratt medal.

I thought an Anzac Medal was awarded in every game of that round. Nonetheless it does feel like the winner the Collingwood-Essendon clash gets celebrated more.

The Pratt Medal is a nothing medal. Really, who was Richard Pratt to both the Carlton and Collingwood Football Clubs? A rich patron is about it.

Richmond and St Kilda matches see the awarding of the Ian Stewart Medal. Again, a nothing medal, but at least it celebrates a great of the game and a great of both clubs.

It's just another meaningless medal for being adjudged best player in a home and away game.

Like most I believe that awarding a medal for best on ground in ANY home and away game is totally unnecessary. Even if the awards were worthwhile, the naming of some of these medals seems very strange. For example, BOG in Sydney v GWS wins the Brett Kirk medal - a fine player for Sydney, but nothing to do with GWS.

And certainly winning these awards should not be recognised alongside genuine awards when lisitng a players career achievements. In the overall scheme of things, being BOG in Carlton v Collingwood or Sydney v GWS is no more important than being BOG in Melbourne v Port Adelaide, or literally any other match.

I’d respect it more if one player from each side was awarded the medal and instead of a fake gold medallion it was a solid gold brown paper bag. Each team could use the award to pay one of their players outside the cap in a public display. Would bring a tear to my eye.

It’s a medal presented to the player who can maintain a mistress and child from that relationship in another state with the apparent knowledge and blessing of his wife.
Im not bothered about that in the slightest.

More the stand over tactics, bribery, corruption and cartel behaviour ripping off ordinary Australians.

Buying political influence in return for favourable regulation and a blind eye.

Agree. It's silly and takes away from genuine awards.

You also just know Pratt has bribed someone to invent this award in the first place.

I presume Pratt was convicted of all these fraudulent activities? No?
Same can be said for Jimmy Saville too. No?

Both died before charges could be laid. Also potential witnesses were either paid off, threatened or bashed.

But sure you defend them and pretend its because you are upstanding.

The paper says it has unearthed allegations that the cardboard box cartel with Amcor, for which Pratt was fined $36 million, actually started a decade earlier than previously believed, ripping a potential $2 billion out of the Australian economy.
Former Visy executive Alan Hancock, who left the company in 1993, says that if an executive who knew too much quit the company, they were either paid for their silence, or followed, and sometimes even bashed and driven to bankruptcy. The Sunday Age says Mr Hancock was beaten up by people who warned him not to make trouble for Mr Pratt, and he lost all his money and almost his marriage fighting him in the courts.

He paid for the medal so he gets a medal.

I look forward to celebrating the inaugural recipient of the Grill'd 100% Natural Healthy Fried Chicken Burger Medal awarded to the best on field during North Melbourne v Collingwood Round 4 Sunday afternoon clash in the not-too-distant future.

He admitted to sanctioning the price fixing for which Visy were fined, at the time, an Australian corporate record sum of $36m. iirc, it was equal to about 5% of the sum they ripped people off.

Visy and Amcor were sued and paid out around $95 in damages.
