This is my preferred team this week

FB: Boyd Weitering McGovern
HB: Carroll Silvagni Saad
C: Walsh Cripps Acres
HF: Cottrell McKay Williams
FF: Kemp Charlie Fogarty

R: TDK Cerra Hewett

Int: OHollands (d) White (f) Lord (m) Docherty (w,f,d)
Durdin (sub)

IN: Carroll Boyd Harry Cottrell
Durdin

OUT: Cowan(inj) Haynes Young Moir (sub) Motlop

This is what my concerns are:
  • Cripps - can he touch his toes?
  • Harry - can he ruck and is he in better shape then Rd1?
  • small forwards - can we get any to rove a ball on the ground in our F50 and kick a sausage roll?
  • who will provide the run in the second half?

Why?
  • Durdin - 13 tackles I think in the VFL - his issue is he is always injured - if he isn’t play him - none of the other small forwards are doing anything - Cottrell I thought was okay against the Dogs - Motlop and Moir had 1 score involvement between them. Fogarty better pull his finger out
  • Carroll for Cowan - injury replacement, but we need more run and we need more decisive kicking down back - good luck Jeff
  • Boyd for Haynes - we lack run after half time - we need to load up with runners who will take on a kick. Haynes is meh. Docherty looks terrible at times but yet he got a bit more of the ball, maybe he will come good

Yeah looks alright on paper,
More interested in how we respond, and particularly the way we play..
Absolutely, I want to see greater consistency for the rest of the year

WCE aren’t afraid to make some tough calls…wish we were the same with our under performing senior players

Can Cripps touch his toes?

Heard it all now

Lets try something more radical this week.

Our small forwards have been ineffectual, replace them with Gov(fast, defensive marking target) and LCampo at HHF(find the ball, kicked 3 points from the wing last week)
Moir's less ready than LCampo, so he becomes the young South Aussie contingent.

Boyd and Jeff to provide the outlet from Half Back.

Outs - Cowan, Doc, Fog, Young and Moir.
Ins - Harry, Boyd, Jeff, LCampo and Cotts.

Saad Weiters Haynes

Boyd JSOS Jeff

Acres Cripps Walsh

Gov Harry LCampo

Motts Charlie Kemp

TDK George Chez

Lord Ollie White Williams sub, Cotts

So you are saying a professional footballer cannot significantly improve the core skill of the game once they become a professional at the age of 18?
Outside of the few exceptions over the years, yes. The best kicks in the league have all come through juniors as elite kicks from a long way out. It's something that's set very very early in ones development.

They can improve and refine, but average kicks almost never develop into elite ones after they've entered the AFL system.

IN: Carroll Boyd Harry Elijah Cottrell

OUT: Cowan(inj) Docherty Fogarty Haynes Young

Boyd Weitering McGovern
Carroll Silvagni Saad
Walsh Cripps Hollands
Elijah McKay Williams
Kemp Charlie Motlop

DeKoning Cerra Hewett

Acres White Cottrell Lord
Moir (sub)
You have my vote sir!

Gov/Haynes is an interesting one.

If Gov gets a reprieve - I’d prefer to play him at half back so he’s not kicking any dinky inboard passes!

Maybe swap with Carroll?

Gov’s on thin ice, was a flip between him and Haynes…
Opposition matchup probably determines his positioning…
He’ll could possibly play on the returning Waterman…

True but both teams are 0-4 and we have no first round draft picks this year. If we’re not willing to make the tough call to drop some woefully performing senior players to the seconds in a bid to turn it around now, then we might as well pack it in

To drop players, you have to have players ready to come in and perform. We don’t in Gov’s position

I agree, I think we need to make a statement with a conditional and or underperforming senior player

I've been loath to comment for the last few games, as I don't think I had much to add, but I'm sorry to say, Doc, one of my favourite warriors of all time must hang them up, the game has gone past him, and some of his 'less than 100%' efforts (I'm being diplomatic) of the last two games tell me he is thinking of self preservation first, and not the jumper and the job. IMO he is harming his legacy. Not everyone is Kenny Hunter, Sam is close and has been tremendous in his leadership and application over the journey. Really Sorry Doc, but the honourable thing to do is to make a list spot for a kid. Too many hack kicks and panic moments. Too many head bobbles at crucial moments.

McGov needs to either be dropped or go play on his brother to negate him, then dropped. He is the worst momentum sucking player I can recall. Does soemthing great, then immediately stuffs it up. He is also one of the most consistant players I can recall. He consistantly has tremendous brain fades.

I'm really hoping I'm not seeing a Malthouse/Bolton/Teague -esk player revolt, but I have few other explainations for the lack of will and desire and desperation to win in 2nd halves. With the exception of Sos and Weiters, I see little passion for the jumper, (sorry to say I include Crippa in that ATM) and little hurt from losses.

We appear to be too tall, and H coming back in will not help. We need skill and speed over the gound (durr). I'm not sure how many handballs to the team-mates feet I saw against the filth last week, but it was an unacceptable number. Percieved pressure causes panic, and they were panicked.

If there is a plan b or c or d, it is not apparent to me. Fly just identified what we were going to do each and every time last week, and put in place a plan to circumvent it. Simply blocking the corrior stuffed us.

I'm not a watcher of the 2nds, so have no idea who should come in as far as names go. I'll go with the cliche of - out; pea hearted efforts and lack of intelligence and skill. in; - courage, speed and skill

Agreed, statement time is long overdue.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I wouldn't drop Moir this week....in fact I'd have him in the starting 22, especially with Harry and Chuck up forward demanding the most attention from the oppo defenders.

Could be the perfect opportunity for him to show us why we drafted him.
BH assuming Harry, Charlie and Kemp all play together in the forward line, who would fill the other fwd spots out of:
Williams, Motlop, White, Fogarty, Cottrell, Durdin, Elijah (if available) and Moir?
