I'm probably in the minority here, but I wouldn't drop Moir this week....in fact I'd have him in the starting 22, especially with Harry and Chuck up forward demanding the most attention from the oppo defenders.

Could be the perfect opportunity for him to show us why we drafted him.
No thanks.

We have enough trouble with opposition defenders providing the outnumber through the midfield. Charlie and Motlop choosing not to go with them regularly.

Adding Moir who can't do that running even if he wants to makes it even more difficult for the guys up the ground to put on the required pressure.

If we had a functional forward line that would cut off the run from half back, then it'd be ok to hide Moir. ATM we can't.

BH assuming Harry, Charlie and Kemp all play together in the forward line, who would fill the other fwd spots out of:
Williams, Motlop, White, Fogarty, Cottrell, Durdin, Elijah (if available) and Moir?
I'd be going 2 talls (Chuck and H), 2 mediums (Kemp and Moir), and 3 smalls (Motlop, White and Durds).

Williams on the bench rotating down back, Fog been underwhelming so down to the VFL ya go, Lij I'm not confident can get up. Cottrell I'd be starting as sub if he's right to go.

He needs to go back to the VFL and learn how to:

1. Punch a ball and kill a contest
2. Put his body on the line and go when it’s his turn.
3. Defend 1 v 1 - body contact is allowed.
4. Hold his feet to contest a 2nd time
5. Win the ground ball by putting your head over it
6. Composure
Yeah I certainly wouldn't have an issue with him being dropped. Not only that but I think on first crack he has had 17 turnovers and 7 have been direct goals which is the highest in the comp.

Giving up 7 goals isn't great for a guy who is meant to be a good kick for us, and who has only managed 7 score involvements (for us) this year.

Can understand why durds is/would be considered - had a great game in vfl (tackles)

but

He is another that often struggles to be effective at afl level

Im hoping there will be a bit of an overhaul of our smalls - none of them are really afl standard

Cos I'm a fan of Durds....at his best he's still our best small forward imo, but of course hasn't been at his best for a few years now due to injury and lack of continuity. Thought he worked into the VFL last week particulalry in the 2nd half - phenonenal work rate, which is exactly what Motlop doesn't offer.

Our smalls have been atrocious so far this year, so I wouldn't be against dropping any of them right now - with the exception of Walter who I'd like to see given more game time at AFL level.

Time for us to be a club where it doesn’t matter if our best player has to sit out.

If anything, that's the definition of a mediocre and insecure club

Perfect game to give Cripps a rest if he's struggling
BUT
WE
KNOW
IT
WON'T
HAPPEN

A pure leader would sit this one out, not only because they are struggling but just as importantly, because it builds the capacity of younger players to step up

BUT
WE
KNOW
THIS
WON'T
HAPPEN

Thought he looked quite handy in the middle too, pace quick hands went after it.

This is crazy.

WOW

Has it gone through to the keeper that Carlton is no. 17 for moving the ball and no. 1 for stopping it.

Surely a monumental red flag that the coaches and player’s energies are being expended on negating rather than moving the ball. Trying not to lose rather than trying to win is a ridiculous methodology.

I just pray that this last week has been about moving the pill, rather than “fixing” our ability to defend in those second halves.

Actually feel it was a reasonable question, and a good observation.

Crippa was dramatically hampered against the Magpies. Media nuffies (particularly Buckley) raving over the job Pendlebury did on Crippa don’t take in to account he was severely hampered and probably shouldn’t have played. Crippa doesn’t bleat on and is fair game by running out, but that selection integrity was again pushed. So hoping another week has him “right” although some training footage showed one “effort” for a ground ball being very minimal.

Thanks - thought I remember him copping one against Dogs and he definitely looked hampered against Pies on ground balls but others seem keen to just take pot shots

We’ve looked terrible in transition - our structure behind the ball has been good.

Poor transition = poor coaching!

Great team defence = what exactly?

Maybe we are not to far away from putting it together??

Pray Yom Kippur GIF

We are great at stopping the ball, and then turning it over and gifting the opponent an easy score.

no team as yet has scored heavily against us though..

might be something to do with going all out attack early in the game and then expending all our energies trying to defend it

this is sort of whats been so far this season

As you know, I’m another fan of Durds who as you have mentioned has had a hard run of it his past few years, his first few were very exciting and I’m just hoping he can get back some continuity to show us that promising small sample size he produced…
Happy for him if selected this week, also happy to see him get some full games in the VFL as a midfielder and forward for a few more games…

He definitely needs VFL games to get his fitness up so he can contribute. Last year he was underdone and his confidence was shot but he still got games.
