Credit to Collingwood, they played well. Had higher intensity and were well coached.

I think some got ahead of the swans. North were abysmal last week and the win over Fremantle was not impressive. Today was a let down, but not a huge deviation from form.

I thought Campbell and Clear played well. Corey was also improved. Ditto Florent.

Like others, I think Rampe needs to go (just about my favourite swan from the past 20 years).

I also think we would look much more dynamic with Blakey on the wing instead of Lloyd.

Roberts hasn’t had a great year from my perspective.

Not sure Rowbottom and Clamps can be in the same centre bounce.

I think we need to be patient with Sheldrick.

Guys like Florent, Lloyd, Roberts, Mills,
Campbell, Blakey etc

We had some many slight outside running makeshift defenders, sometimes i think it causes trouble in the contested marking and when the ball hits the deck we often get scored against etc

Agree 100% about Cunningham having a place in the team. Who do you reckon for? I'd be leaning towards Rampe or Blakey (fine with him moving up the field) though I doubt that's what they'll do. At least if Cox is serious about improving our one-on-one ability in D50, that's who I think it should be for.
Assuming he gets back to his best, it'll be any one of Wicks, Bice, Roberts or Blakey. It'll depend on the opposition. If they have multiple dangerous small fwds then Harry and Wicks are both down back. If not, I think Wicks can do a hybrid role anyway and it would push one of Blakey or Bice to the wing (and say a Corey or Lloyd or Florent out, depending on form).

For Rampe only if we are up against short oppo. Otherwise I think we generally need the 3 KPDs.

If there is one thing which continually hurts us then it is our poor tackling. It's not the main reason we lost tonight but it is often a contributing factor in our losses.

Far too often we are in position to make the tackle, but inexplicably get into turnstile mode and allow the player to wriggle free with minimal effort.

Not sure if Cox sees it and/or if he ranks it as a top priority and has a plan to address it and fix it. We will not be a contender unless this aspect of our game improves dramatically.

Ridiculous post , big Brodie is a great team man and Long has shown a fair bit and from good breeding

Brodie is a f wit, shouldn’t have a medal.

Long ..nothing against him, but we let him run riot

I thought the same thing tonight. We got him....no we don't.

Would be nice if we kicked it to the forwards advantage for often (McLean's sitters aside). 3-4 times Ladhams was 5-10m over the back of Frampton, either on a counter or from a stoppage, so our mids drop it 10m in front of Frampton.

Elliott is in the exact same position for them and they kick it beautifully over the top so he can mark it.

Just far too many skill errors in crucial spots and moments, especially from senior players.
The mistake you made there is assuming Ladhams is an AFL standard player, he's not. His greatest achievement is conning 2 AFL clubs into thinking that he is. Any side that has him regularly getting a game isn't a threat.

You can get serious whiplash on this board.

I thought tonight was a good night for:

- Heeney, who looked back to his 2024 best in terms of movement and ball use (haven't actually minded his first month, it's just been a different look for him.)

- Florent, who looked to be evading and using the ball like we know he can. Though his "best" has never really been his issue, has it?

- Grundy, who battled hard against a quality opponent and actually got some decent service to our mids throughout the night.

- The fringe players. Cleary, Hanily, Warner Jr. & Sheldrick, who all showed there is plenty there to persist with.

- Those who never subscribed to the theory that a few stars win you games of footy. Tonight proved that a few guys can have crackers but if the rest aren't up to the standard they need to be, you'll be punished. And we were.

Courage my soul
And let us journey on
Though the night is dark
It won't be very long

  • Heeney class
  • Sidebottom and pendles timeless
  • McLean was solid despite some drops

Dislikes

  • Out coached. Struggled to understand how we just let a team like Collingwood taken uncontested marks down the line without adapting our game plan. The great teams adapt
  • Contested marking..becoming an issue now, not the first time
  • If we can’t play the corridor often seems we look a little lost what to do

McLean dropped so many semi-contested marks it was abysmal.

Ditto McCartin.

Even at the end, Gus (much maligned for his kicking) put one on the chest of McCartin who spilled the uncontested mark. Which summed up the game.

We picked 2 rucks, plenty of talls & lost the contested marks 11-1.

None of our talls performed, aside from Grundy who was reasonable.

The young triad of Cleary Hanily and Corey had all good hitouts for their standards.

Love Hanilys chase and is now starting to become more confident with ball in hand. Corey got a lot more involved offensively. Clearys tackling and pressure was one of the better players out there last night.

Collingwood had maximum damage for their inside 50s and played very well. Handballs over their heads were coming off, they were clunking everything. Let’s give them credit they were v good.
Our effort was there as it has been all year but we lacked polish (outside of Heeney). Our forward line just doesn’t function as well without Amartey. Our key defenders were well beaten and our small defenders allowed the small forwards to kick goals from being front and centre too often. A few times we had 3 or 4 key defenders spoiling and the ball hit the deck and Hill, Elliot etc had the easiest of goals.
With Amartey out we tried to run the ball through the corridor as we had no confidence kicking the balll long. Pies were wised up to this.
every time we had a chance to pick up some serious momentum we missed the moment - Lloyd and Campbell missed shots, McLean missed marks etc
Not our best night but from disgraced.

Who was on sidebottom last night? It was like he had his own footy and was untouchable last night. How the hell does a random like Ned Long play a game like that? Mihocek who is not exactly a giant key forward, taking contested marks for fun. Elliot, Hill and mccreery standing front and centre of a pack unattended. Absolute sitters just spilt. No wonder Errol was blowing up on the sideline.

I hope Cox goes over the video and kicks some arse this week. Last night's performance, in the cold hard light of today, was unacceptable.
