Go to the draft with 1,2 and Hawks first

Trade all our 2nds and 3rds to move up as high as possible - Port’s first that the Suns own looks like the best target as things stand, I really want Josh Lindsay, best kick in the draft and he’d be a god send for this list.

If Harley wants to leave he can go to Essendon for theirs and Melbourne’s first.

I don’t think any of these things are unrealistic, theoretically we could go to the draft with 1,2,3, 6,7 and Hawthorn’s first.

Duursma, Sharp, Curtin, CDT, Lindsay, Walley, Evans and potentially Banfield would be a pretty handy haul.

Most of the elite mids come from top 5 picks. While no guarantee, the percentages are certainly in favour.
Cripps, Fyfe, Dangerfield, Neale, Mitchell, Selwood, Serong, Yeo, Butters, Warner among a littany of others who say hi.

Your conviction that our second top 5 pick MUST be spent on a mid is unnecessarily restricting our own choices.

All I'm saying is that it's round 5, we don't even know what we have, or how the draft is going to pan out, and we should make draft choices based on best available, and how we view the talent already on our list.

I'm so sorry that nuance is beyond you.

Ladder
WCE 18th, PORT 12th, HAW 4th

FA
Oscar Band 1 (Pick 2), Petch Band 5 (Pick 39), Cole Band 5 (Pick 40

Picks

GCS: 2,646 points for Pick 7, Ned Moyle, Alex Davies

Draft
1-Sharp
2-Rodriguez/Curtin
7-Curtin/Cumming
2/3R Deficit for NGA/FSs
So who are you saying is going

Retire : Sheed - Cripps
Delist : Kelly - Hunt
Trade : Allen - Petrucelle - Cole

Do we persist with Brockman, Brock, Bazzo, Barnett, Chesser, H.Edwards, Flynn, Jamieson, Livingstone, Rawlinson?

That's a lot to carry.

How many more games do we get out of Yeo and McGovern?

It's a pretty dire list and we have the doyens of Vic media telling us it's all self inflicted and we shouldn't get Priority Picks.

Whats the draft depth like this year? I'm not sure we should be selling our latter picks to upgrade.

Also delist Bazzo, Jamo, Livingstone, Rawlinson and possibly Brock. I’d try and swap BWilliams and Chesser for Zach Reid to link up with his brother.

Draft depth is average but has a very strong top 8 or so. The problem is after about pick 20 this year becomes so compromised that any picks we have after that will end up blowing out then have to be used to match our NGAs and essentially wasted.

In my view, the smart move is to package picks up to extract maximum points value for when GCS have to match an early bid on Uwland.

15,19,33,39,40‎ = 2,646 points = pick 1/2.

Will be very attractive to GCS having to pay for Uwland, Addinsall etc.
Offer Moyle and Davies strong contracts with AFL games offer and then players, managers and Suns are happy. They will both be pissed off they aren’t playing much this year.

We pick up two B22 players in desperate areas of need and get a pick that means we get two top mids and Curtin then still get our NGAs.

Brockman has another year on his contract. Cripps probably deserves a look at another year but in our state I’d rather see Hammer play that role higher up the ground.

Can’t fault your picks, that’s exactly what I’d do with them but I still hope and think Harley stays. No way I’d only accept only those two 1Rs for him anyway.

If Flynn and BWill keep performing the way they are Crossley would have to be on the MSD radar.

Is this true? Top mids in the past decade have include Fyfe, Dangerfield, Cripps, Neale, Martin and Petracca. Two in the top 5, four outside of it.

EDIT:Beaten to it.
If you split them onto groups, yes. Danger is too far back. Guys like him don't slip through anymore. Clubs have worked out that outside mids are a poor choice with a top 5 pick

Yeah. Just went off footywire. Have seen before people saying they have Brockmans contract wrong.

I think we also need run and creativity off HBF and McCarthy by all reports gives that and early number 1 pick fav.

Another injury to Jamieson before MSD wouldn’t be the worse thing so we can get 2. Did like his form early in 2024.

Crossley I think in the best in the state game today as well.

The hope is Harley does stay and pair him with the picks 1 and 2. Ideally we’d have our own Dusty (Harley) Rowell (Sharp) Noah Anderson (Duursma/Rodriguez) Sloane (Gross) for at least the next 4 years minimum.

His management and socials are definitely trolling like he might but until he signs.
Next 5 games will tell a lot imo.

FW is pretty good but they do get a few wrong. HBF we could have slid again and taken Harrison Oliver last year but didn’t and we’ve got Garrison Kenh coming next year who will play that role perfectly in the future. Will be interesting to see what approach we take to the MSD, I’d be fine with Crossley.

I like that we’ve approached Harley with our best offer off the bat. Good move.

Oh good

Is this the same crossley that the bulldogs had with them and went , nah he is way to unfit to be playing afl…. Sounds perfect for us

You know, This might be an unpopular thought.
Should have a chat to Gawn and Trac, say "hey I know we're shit, but.. We're not Melbourne and we have Harley.
Would be nice to have a decent mid and ruck for the team to lean on, even if it was only for 1-2 seasons before they hung the boots up.

The other thing to note is we are not just drafting for the B22, we need depth, we need quality depth. I don't want Gross getting injured and having to turn to Petch to provide cover. We need enough quality Mids to both help the WAFL and help the AFL squads.

I'd like to see us focus on High end Mids with the first 2 picks then go for KPD as we need a few good ones.

Long way out to make predictions but let’s not that stop us.

I think we will be doing everything we can get that Power pick if it’s top 10 even a future first could be on the table. Even that is probably only up for sale if Rowell stays. If not they will go shopping and it will be very inviting if the season trends like this.

Sharp or Duursma
+
Curtin
+
Rodriguez.

With Harley, Hewett, Grego, Ginbey*, Bo*

That’s plenty of upside if they get the draft right. Get them right the KPP should be the right age to come through with them.

Still need to find someone if not 2 to help support that for the next 2 years beside an injury prone Yeo. Im not sure who that will be.

Need to find two players who can move the ball and make the right decisions off half back. Not sure who they will be. One could be Duursma or Rodriguez. Will Powell? Doubt he wishes to leave but we will have a lot of coin post Oscar and Kelly
this
agree with most of your thoughts, the 2 mids to help the kids for the next 2-3 years and have elite standards and leadership are a must.
Our current leaders outside of Gov and Baker currently have no real leadership, Duggan and Oscar might be fine in the leadership group but they lack leadership on the field.

Assuming for a second that is the haul, who are you delisting.
Allen - leaves via FA
Jamieson
Chesser - would give him one last chance, but can’t see him making it
Sheed
Petrucelle
Cripps (retires)
Hunt
Rawlinson
Kelly
Cole

50/50 on Livingstone and Brockman

No way do you go needs with top 5 picks. You go with best talent. If we have two picks in the draft at 2,3 we could easily take a mid and Curtin, then use the Hawks pick and then bid on Evans (a mid).

The idea that drafting Curtin means we don't address our midfield is a bit far fetched. We have a lot of picks to use. Even if we trade for Warner, he's a mid so he's addressing our midfield too.
If Warner comes (doubt it) and we take Curtin top 2, even if Allen leaves we don’t have another top 10 pick for a young mid.
And this has been our number 1 need by a country mile for about 4 years and we’re still a long way from having addressed it in a satisfactory manner

Warner isn't coming.

That's the whole premise of the conversation.
