Butters 16 contested, 8 clearances
Drew 18 contested, 8 clearances
JHF 13 contested, 7 clearances

If JHF can keep playing this well rounded football, its just a perfectly balanced midfield group
Would be nice if we could get Drew to be a bit more thoughtful with his disposal. He was very good, but his get it an kick within 5 steps style is very frustrating when he doesn't look forward and has more time.

Almost all goals on the back of a freekick..

Umps gave them a massive leg up
The thing with this is it isn’t isolated when we play this club in particular. In fact it seems to happen with regularity. If the league was serious about integrity, which it clearly isn’t, there would be thorough investigations into why and some accountability. What we copped tonight and almost always against this club is far worse than one ****ing iffy in the back against Rankine.

Rozee half back is just so ovbious, when he played midfield, his strengths were things away from stoppages, mostly transiition offense, perfect place to show his talents off of half back. and does not get exposed for being a soft player.
Many of us were calling for him to move out of the middle all preseason. Amazing it has taken this long.

There was one on the members wing, the bloke was tackled and then a one handed handball and no free..
Yep, 100% clear HTB. Meanwhile, exactly the same thing happened to Moraes who was chicken winged and head slammed into the turf, but no, that one was HTB.

Sydney are going to belt us next week.
It's debatable whether we were better because of emotion or not. But tonight I saw something that I've never seen before, well at least not in a few years. We had a functioning defensive and forward structure to go with a clear plan (at least in 1st half). Rozee at HB is something I've been saying for a while now. But also, that unlocks a position for Mead where he's solid at, instead of playing half-forward or wing where he's trash at.

Up forward we had isolation which gave Georgiades the best chance of making an impact. We emptied out the forward line with Richards, Rioli and Cochrane working high up the ground while leaving Lord, Georgiades and SPP isolated.

And defensively, the first 4 games we've been average at best and always somehow allowed goals out the back often because we pressed up too high. But we held we pushed back and let the 3 HFs in Richards, Rioli and Cochrane apply forward half pressure. So Hawks couldn't really use their hands and get through.

This was an intentional strategic move and it's quite obvious where it came from, starting with the idea of moving Rozee to HB.

But at HT, we moved back to a stoppage based game perhaps to conserve energy (typical Port mindset under Ken) and lock it up forward even if we don't score and that almost came back to bite us

Like the look of Cochrane.

Some may say that Kane Mitchell was built like a barrel, but i think Cochrane has much more barrel tendency.

He's just a good short, flat man.
There was a moment where he was so clever, in a tight space, to play basketball inside 50 and eventually dished it off to Butters which ended in a cheeky Rioli goal (and a second one because CJ pushed him). That's a high IQ play

Hope we get to find out what Ginni's celebration would have been.

The big COC will surely stay. Showed from impressive signs. Berry will most likely make way for DBJ. I think he is a little lost on his role in the time at the moment and playing as sub isn't exactly doing him wonders.

I thought Lord was serviceable. That snap attempt was bad and his set shot from directly in front needs work. I noticed that players have a tendency to drag the kick across for some reason. This was also the same case with JHF. Drew also needs to nail his set shots as well. I knew he would miss it as soon as kicked it with his drop ball going towards the right goal post.

Hopefully Bergman's injury is just a precaution since it meant Ratulogea had to play on Sicily and he outsmarted him multiple times.

If Port can't maintain that level of intensity in the first half, they have to slow the game down. Sure the hawks had the rub of the green with frees, but there were instances where they managed to score out the back and into the open goal. Also, it is concerning that an aging tall was able to kick 6 goals.

I think Moraes will need a rest at some stage. Made a few mistakes and at times, he looked like a kid playing against men. Sinn is also on watch. Another poor game from him. Needs to get involved more in the game and as a half-back, needs to up his disposal count from the teens to the twenties. Has the speed and penetration but getting the ball is a little concerning.

In saying that, if the kids keep playing well enough, all of a sudden Port's depth will increase and will force those in the 2's to step up if they want a crack at playing AFL.

I was initially a little disappointed that the final margin was only 30 points but on reflection winning obviously beats losing, and although we probably would have won by more if given a half decent run by the scumps the squawks are in my top 3 most enjoyable teams to knock off behind only the tingles and wobblers, so I am very happy with the result.
