VFL is not AFL but if you can't destroy the kids and journeymen running around in the VFL as a 22-23 year old mid you're not going to make it in any serious way at AFL level.

It's weird you're giving Davies the benefit of the doubt as a tall mid with more development when Knevitt is almost a year younger and the same height.

I'd much prefer we gamble that we get a Miers, Dempsey, Humphries, etc late in the draft over a guy that has been a list clogger for 5 years at Gold Coast.
His only games this year at VFL level have been 31 Disposals and 29 Disposals/3 goals. You know that Davies has not been playing as a midfielder for a lot of his time in the VFL right? It's weird that you are so focused on VFL form when you clearly have not seen him play and stare at the stat sheet.

The fact Geelong asked the question last year to get him across tells me all I need to know

Sadly I don’t see it. He is just not taking any genuine steps forward yet. He has stalled and it is of some concern.

He will be given every chance to develop, but the signs aren’t great

What are you talking about? He had 32 disposals, 8 clearances and 11 inside 50's, against the Casey Demons - a very good VFL side.

He's actually taken some huge steps forward this year. Tank is better. Disposal is better. Put on a little bit size and harder to tackle. And he genuinely was dominant in the first half against the Saints a few weeks back.

Hasn't stalled at all, lol.

If you only need internal validation, why come onto an anonymous internet forum telling everyone how smart you were for predicting that Bailey Smith will be good? That seems like the absolute definition of seeking external validation. But hey, whatever gets you up in the morning, keep doing you.

If you look at the game review thread from Fridays game you will see a post I made saying aspects of smiths game have surprised me (on the upside). This was well before you decided to take a victory lap because one of your “ITK” predictions came true. I was happy to admit that I may have underestimated smiths upside.

I will also say that he has played 4 games, is still wearing a big ass strapping on his surgically repaired knee, and the risk in him still remains. It is a long season, and his contract has a long way to run.

Funnily enough you haven’t mentioned any of the many “ITK” predictions that you made that went nowhere.

Keep that maturity level high.

You're acting like a true prick mate. Hope you're proud of yourself for this behaviour.

Laughable talking about maturity level while you sit there behind your screen going off and picking fights, just to make yourself feel a big man.

Don't bother replying because you're on my ignore list now, but just wanted you to know this is true bottom of the barrel behaviour. To someone who actually predicted every aspect of the Oliver saga (him wanting to stay, but Melbourne pushing him out and us chasing him), months before the media got hold of it.

Give it a rest and go yell at a cloud.

You're the one quoting stats not me! I just reckon his coach and the opposition coach watch his games way closer than any of us and they're telling you he's been just decent not dominant.

Fact? I was told the exact opposite.

I was told we chased him from a list manager from another club who also wanted him.

We all need to find someone who defends us like ShadowCat defends fishgutz

FishGutz seems to be pretty honest to me. His information lined up with a lot of things happening a fair way out.

I'd suggest we all just drop it

I don’t care about VFL form, we all know he can play a good midfield game at VFL which he also did in 24. His appearances so far at AFL haven’t shown anything more than he did last year.

Keeping in mind it is only 3 games, but he has not shown anything more than last years AFL output in any of them.

Did you watch the Saints game? Was close to BOG and kept us in it, in that first half. Faded when kicked out of the centre for Holmes, Danger and Atkins, but was phenomenal, and better than I've seen him in any game he'd played to date.

So no, it's not the same as last year - and that's at AFL level.

Clark right? I think his stat line looks no better on paper but what he is doing with it is much better. Ball in hand he's an afl player any day of the week.

The total list of RFA for this year:
  • Brandon Starcevich (Brisbane)
  • Tom De Koning (Carlton)

  • Ed Richards (Western Bulldogs)

Some notable UFA:
  • Reilly O'Brien (Adelaide)

Most interesting though:
- Jake Kolodjashnij UFA 🤨🤨🤨

From 9 Oct 2024:
Geelong has received a quadruple boost with Jake Kolodjashnij, Jed Bews,Lawson Humphries and Ted Clohesy signing new deals with the Club.

Thats even more agressive but maybe it would work if tehy are ready for that sort of reset. I could see pettricca getting a good deal from Pies … but Oliver is the one Im not sure what he gets them. If they kept his money for the length of the contract then maybe.

Pies have 4 blokes F/S and NGA that they need to have picks/points for.

That on top of trying to get Petracca?
No idea how they do it

We absolutely should be going hard for Draper here. He's a jet and would be a terrific replacement for Stanley while some of the younger prospects develop.

Their preferred priority is play now driven by the coach…I think they would find a way to do it even if it meant letting a couple of ngas go. Obviously it depends on just how good they are.

Draper will be at either Essendon or Adelaide next year

If Adelaide shows serious interest, then O'Brien could become a Stanley replacement while Edwards & Conway develop

One would think they Crows will be all over him. SA radio was into OBrien Fri morning after the Geelong game. Ess woudl be set for a Reid play then. The Bryan injury probably changes it bit though.

I wonder if Geelong would be in hurry to sign JakeK now? Doubt he would get any offers more than Band 2 or 3

Seeing how quickly O'Sullivan how come on this year, I can imagine we may not have been in such a rush to re-sign him this year and see how this year played out

But I'm pretty sure he's current deal takes him through to being able to sign for his home state

Which they won't do unless the majority of the staff in charge are sacked (which was the point I started with originally) and hence he will be stuck there. They are stubborn.

You are right that Oliver is only one part of their over all issues. Melbs problems seem multi faceted. Starting with the non playing facilities. The fluffed around with so many ideas yet noting has really been actuated. I think the last I heard was at Caufield racecourse. Is that still planned to happen? Is there any club in the afl with a worse setup atm. I see the Crows are getting a new100M facility. Then CEO and president etc. ..If the majority of the staff needs to be sacked..but who sacks them. and after Bartlett situation ..good luck getting money people to buy in.

The AFL still say he is a FA agent. So is JK contracted?

Seeing what Tom Atkins did on Thursday night and how impactful it was on the game is further reinforcement for me why we need to go hard at rowel

Specifically … what do you mean go hard for him. Offer hm the typeof money the Saints are offering TDek? Id say he will get good offers from any club that he signals he wants to play for. Id say for him the best offers will happen when he hits FA. Another two years at GC … then if they are still not a legit flag side he can look at his options. Id love him at Geelong just cant see it with GC’s current form.

This is the article from the club last year announcing his signing, so I'm going with an oversight from the league

I wonder if he will still be a strong option for Tas in 2028 if he stays at Geelong. COS is going top be hard to remove now…looks so good. With SDek and COS ..add JHenry and Stewart and ZGuthrie … you need a couple of small types. Maybe COS or Sdek play elsewhere but it looks tight for a role.
