Also what happened to the young fella from City, think they called him Tazza? Was in the 19s inter league game last year. Looked like a good kid, strong up forward.

Made it to Lyndhurst vs Ashwood yesterday. I haven't been to SFNL Div 3 in a few years and was quite impressed by the standard, considering neither seems to be expected to be a finalist. Skills were fairly good, game was fast and players manned up tightly (at least in the 2nd half - I got there a bit late).

Game was pretty low scoring as they had very similar styles (long kicking to targets) and manned up very well. The result was kicks to an endless series of 50/50 contests. No one could mark cleanly, the ball went to ground, someone gathered it, they got tackled immediately, ball up.

Neither side seemed to get much run and carry going. They also seemed a bit one-dimensional, almost never switching play.

I thought the umpires were very good about keeping the game flowing. When someone got caught with no chance of getting rid of it, they blew the whistle immediately, threw it up quickly and got the game going again. A lot of umpires - in the VAFA especially - wait until five blokes have stacked on before they blow the whistle, then make a huge production of throwing it up (make blokes put up their hands to identify themselves as ruckmen, shoo everyone else away, etc.). This game could have bogged down totally, but was remarkably fast considering the number of ball ups.

One thing I don't much care for in SFNL is the incredibly short quarters. Last qtr went 24:05, even with a stoppage that herded everyone back into their groups (leg injury, took a while to get him off the ground). Game finished about 4.05pm. Even with the quick ball ups, there can't have been much playing time.

It's a good thing you mention short quarters because in the game between Hallam and Narre South division 4 couple of quarters went on for about 34 minutes. And also doesn't help when the timekeepers were drinking alcohol.

Was there as well and was a great close contest. Ashwood did well to dig deep and get the win but Lyndhurst gave it a good crack too. I will say, that Hazendonk is an unbelievable footballer, unfortunately couldn’t convert a few of his shots but was very very good. Great pickup Lyndhurst!

Should also have mentioned I was late to Lyndhurst as I stopped off for a look at Berwick Springs.

Was very impressed with the set up. I got there at the opening bounce of the 2s. Plenty of clubs are a ghost town at that hour, but Springs was already buzzing: supporters, plus U19s (? - young Port Colts blokes were leaving), women's, multiple lots of netballers (some leaving, other matches in progress), with seniors to come. Club should have a bright future.

The facilities were good, too, but they ought to be - place is less than 5 years old. I was a bit concerned when I looked for parking on Google street view: in the latest photo (2019), the place was an empty paddock.

City lucky to win again, heard they got looked after. 10 more minutes and Hampton win that game.

Umpires doing everything against south, becoming a joke. Week off and more players back they’ll be fine
Keep using umpires champ for city winning.
Worry about your side more than others.
City 8 pts you would take that early season.
