and others like Barnett because, Barnett and not really worth adding.
This is cooked mate.

Outside of Nic Nat and Luke Jackson the chances of a ruck showing much in their first 5 years is very small.

He's a slow burn and I think will surprise a lot after another season/preseason or two.

Not much of an upgrade from Flynn

Adelaide have been trying to replace him for a few years now. Just another list clogger
led the league in HO last season and across his career rates Elite for Hit outs per game and hitouts to advantage... I'd welcome a list clogger like that.. he's everything Bailey's not. Screenshot_20250416_011824_AFL.jpg

Hit out win% is the most important stat for ruck man. Then hit out advantage %.

The first determines whether you've stopped the opposition. The second determines whether you add any value.
We honestly just need somebody with a half decent win % atm.
Not really when you get Bailey Williams winning the hitout and knocking it down the throat of the opposition midfielder like prime Nic Nat to Shuey

And yet despite all that Adelaide have dropped him every year searching for an alternative, and have yet to sign him up. His stat sheet makes him look a lot better than what he actually is.

West Coast supporters thinking a good ruckman is going to turn our fortunes around.

Bailey Williams must be our Kryptonite and if we replace him we become superman again.

Classic.
West Coast supporters realising our midfield is trash and getting thrashed at clearances and the contest.

West Coast supporters realising that one step in improving, not fixing completely, is having a decent ruck, not the worst ruck in the league.

Classic

And we are going to find that in the MSD?

Cars in the 80s had air conditioning as an upgrade, a luxury I guess but if you didn’t get it your car still got you from point A to B.

A midfield is what wins you games and a good ruckman is a luxury which makes the journey more enjoyable.

Plenty of examples of rucks getting destroyed and the side winning. A dominant ruckman can miss games through injury yet good sides don’t suddenly start losing by 70-100 points every game.

I’m under no illusion that a good ruckman would be a nice thing. However we have plenty of other more pressing issues that need fixing, rather than the “silver bullet” of a brand new ruckman from the MSD that’s at Matt Flynn levels of 💩

Barnett looking ok down back?

Pal go and watch the Beagles and tell us what you think.

He is the furthest thing from ok. If the Beagles could drop a handful of their worst players, they'd probably include Barnett. He is very very very bad.

Reports of him looking fit and a solid Backman during pre season were optimistic at best.

Agree currently he doesn’t look WAFL level never mind ready to lead the ruck at AFL level.

People were bejizzling their pants over this guy in his draft year.

Good luck selling the club to any decent player with these headlines from our players. Not sure if it’s taken out of context or not.

On top of the Waterman and Jack Graham training comments……

Our players need better media training or need to apply what they have learned.

In my role we get various levels of media training including social media and press training. Reason: it’s so easy to provide a sound bite that can be taken out of context to twist the words you are saying.

So if the players have not completed their media training and are not capable of speaking to media without throwing the club under the bus they should shut the **** up.

Yep, 20 words pre planned regardless of the question.

Old mate Elliott ain't the brightest though, but honest.

To be fair, I was one of them, as were many others on here.

He looked a solid blue chip selection. We didn't "reach" for him or stuff that pick up as a club, he was rated very highly as the best ruck in that draft.

He was taken just outside the first round, and although many of that draft has ended up being duds, Barnett has honestly gone backwards in a professional AFL system and was a much better player before he got to West Coast. Half our luck. Not sure how often that happens but it's quite odd, and even odder that we extended him for 2 more years despite him showing regression rather than development. Bizarre list management.

I think Barnett's biggest obstacle is between his ears, he lacks the killer instinct / drive to make it.
He said himself he drops his bundle if he loses his first contest of a game in the ruck.

Could get away with it at junior level where he could dominate against similar age people, but the step up to play against men was a bridge too far for him

We used to get beaten in the middle when we had NN.

I was replying to your comment that people think a ruck will just solve all our problems. No one thinks that.

We don't need an AA ruck, we just can't carry the worst ruck in the league that gives our midfield no chance. Needs to at least try and provide some resistance.

We used to get beaten in the middle when we had NN.
And our midfield was shit then as well. Imagine what would have happened if Bailey Williams was rucking to them.....

Scott Lycett was miles better than Bailey Williams. Would be happy with a prime Lycett.

We were a poor ground ball team throughout the Simpson era, particularly post clearance.

What we saw in 2017 and 2022 without Nic was our ground balls went from pretty bad to dead last with a massive gap to second last.

In 2022 they had a graphic of average ground balls with Nic in the team and without and the difference was stark.

But we were using an iteration of the Weagles Web where we could lose the contested ball count and still win the game. It was a very hard game to execute because a footballer's natural instinct was to get to the ball first. From 2019, lots of players just didn't want to execute it. Finding that exact balance between coralling pressure and letting teams do whatever they want was really hard.
