Autopsy 8 point loss to Port

Listen sport. He was poor in the 2nd & 3rd. He was good in the 1st & 4th but to give him the votes? Not sure about that. I like consistency. He doesn't chase enough. Just stops. In the second and third, when he was getting touched up he sooked and didn't chase. I think he is a very good player but to be great you really have to put the team before self and I don't think Isaac does that enough.

Heeney didn't soook once and the idea he doesn't put the team first is nonsense .

He was in an under every pack , did he get a lot
of
it in the middle quarters -- no but maybe someone could block support and help

We lost that in the first obviously, some critical decisions were very ordinary in the last, both by players and umps. A few speculators at goal where there were options. Skills killed us, whenever we look like getting a run on w shite handball or kick killed it.

We absolutely stole defeat from the jaws of victory.

Two goals against to start the 3rd and 4th where rubbish

Gotta be able to beat the ordinary sides whilst we have the injuries so this one is a big loss.

McCartin needs a spell.
Two goals in a half is a very ordinary side.

Senior players and their simple skill errors are costing us.

Another incredibly underwhelming game from McInerney, too. Should be one of the first out when we get some troops back. Doesn't offer us much defensively or offensively. He's just...there.

Getting centre bounce time too

Juzzy is in the same basket as Florent if we're being honest

First game back I guess

I’m probably seen as negative Nelly here but on the positive side at least the team showed signs of life in the second half when it seemed they put up the white flag on the season at half time.

On the coal face we should have won but didn’t.

Let’s face it, no one from the reserves atm is good enough to break into the first team so they are just gonna have to play through this rut and hope they find some form and absolutely hope that the returning injured players come back running before it really becomes too late.

There seems to he a real disconnect when we try to move the ball down either side of the field. It was clear to me that our wingers and HFs were reluctant to leave their patch of territory and create options. The only option was a long kick to a contest which we invariably lost for 3 quarters. Contrast this to Port (and Pies last week) who cleared their defensive 50 with ease. More often then not, a team mate would work their way into space for an uncontested mark as his opponent was more concerned with zoning off than playing in a more accountable fashion.

Skill errors, poor composure and constant fumbles. Really unlike us and that continues to be the theme this season, so so costly.

Thought our contest work was much better, Grundy was massive. However the gulf in cleanliness in traffic was so costly. Butters would get a ground ball then they were out, as for us it seemed we'd fumble twice before getting a handpass out then rush a kick.

Carved up through transition on numerous occasions. Been a big issue this year alongside the missed tackles in def50. Was good to see the pressure and work rate ramp up, just our cohesion seems a complete mess.
It’s ironic that in an NRL state our tackling is so rubbish. When was the last time we had an NRL coach in for tackle training?

Coasts by with his usual 17-19 low-impact disposals, 4-5 kicks that scrub along the ground and and 2-3 jumper punches each game.

Give me Florent every day of the week...at least he keeps going to contest after contest and tries to make something happen.

Welcome FIFTY!. Glad to meet a fellow poster that values tackling as much as I do.

Wicks and Heeney are excellent tacklers and both have played rugby league as juniors. Some players think tackling is optional, but tackle must come from within not some BCF store.

That is why I like strong tacklers.

Hamily is a perfect example of players that seem to be 'in the team', but with no clearly defined role in it. Corey Warner another. Arguably Campbell another. All can play footy - but give them a defined role and let them excel at it. Imo we have done great disservice to Campbell so far by spending so much time trying to make him 'make it' in roles that he isn't suited to at AFL level. He either has to play as a half forward/small forward, or he has to make it as a midfielder.

Hamily should be played as a small forward for a sustained period - yes he can play midfield, but I've seen precious little to suggest so far he is anywhere near AFL level as a midfielder.

Similar with Bice - who can do a little in the contest sure, but is so much better when helping to open the game up off the half back flank. Play him there FFS.

If you want to change roles of individuals, then it has to be done early in pre-season and stuck with. Like they've done with Wicks.

Getting back to basics could help our undermanned team become a wholly more cohesive outfit very quickly.
Yep, players know their strengths and where they play best. Go with that unless there’s compelling reasons not to. Teach them to play unpredictably in their predictable most suited places. And play around with flexibility once a player has mastered their best position(s). Forcing players into roles to which they’re poorly suited creates frustration, undermines confidence, ******s development and destroys the joy of playing the game they dreamt to be a part of.

These are only stats but in prior years they were normally in the negative when we lost.

However, we did well in winning clearances and contested possessions. We even had less turnovers although I felt our turnovers led to goals.

Where it all falls apart is the forward line. Out of the top 10 Swans goal kickers from last year only 5 played today (1 being Wicks is now a defender). So that left McLean, Hayward, Heeney and Warner. The first three each kicked two a piece (McLean missed a few). Warner with Gulden missing role has changed.

The impact of the injuries concentrated to ten forwards line has hurt.

No excuse for the poor disposals but probably highlights our forward 50 issues.

Should start some new stats:

1. Biggest panicker
2. Biggest mark spoiler
3. 3 talls up and spills out the back
4. Missed tackles
5. Soft ball gets
6. Should have rushed the behind
7. Kick scrubber
8. Hospital handballer
9. Turnover merchant
10. Jogger

I think some could be

-Panic Moments
-Dinky Kicks
-Kicks attempting to compensate for inability to kick both sides
  • forgetting to man up on opponent
  • Yelling /blaming team mate
  • tackle that did **** all
  • Abysmal missed shot
  • possession because you played on from the kick in
  • Stopping for whistle that wasn't there

Trade Chad with Freo for Serong.

They won’t trade nor should they trade Serong. It’s not going to happen. Take the WCE deal. It will be MORE than fair especially if todays anything to go by with Chad
