That's a good way of looking at it. I just view Hunter as a generational talent and ward as a guy who will be a QB who is outside the top 15 in the league. In the NFL it seems you basically need a top 10 QB to win an SB. (Standing by for nick Foles comeback)
I legitimately think Ward's ceiling is Patrick Mahomes level. For those who find that laughable, I'd ask you why Mahomes fell to #10 coming out of college. The answer is because he wasn't perfect either and had flaws he had to fix, which he did. If Ward fixes his flaws and maximises his talent, I think he can get to that level.

Of course his floor is way lower, he also has significant bust potential. I've seen some analysts say he might end up around Baker Mayfield level, not in the top 5 in the league but still worthy of the #1 pick.

The analysts also say Sanders doesn't have that ceiling, he's a Purdy/Tua type, but a higher floor, Teddy Bridgewater level. I'd much rather my team gamble on Ward than settle for Sanders.

If the Giants do trade up to take Dart, I wonder who they'll go at 3. Carter is probably the obvious pick?
What I posted in another thread earlier , top 4 picks seem pretty locked in

Just having a look now on two bookies sites:

Hunter is $1.11 and $1.08 to be pick 2
Carter is $1.17 and $1.18 to be pick 3

Noticeably though Campbell is $1.11 and on the other site $1.37 to be pick 4 so a bit of a difference there.

Markets from pick 5 onwards are much more open.

Who would they trade with Carolina? because they would likely need to get ahead of the Saints

Adding to Carter being the selection is Kayvon Thibodeaux being shopped, hes excess with Carter and Brian Burns being presumedly the Giants starting edges and his rookie contract almost up.

I doubt the QBs are going as early as you believe.
I think the Saints are desperate so QB3 could easily be pick 9. It happens every year. this year Ward is the only QB worth a 1st round pick but like most there will still be 3-4 taken day 1

I think teams will look to trade back up to late in the first round from early in the second round if they are going to take one. Can't see anyone in the teens taking one so pretty pointless taking one 10+ picks before the Steelers imo (who don't have a second round pick because of the Metcalf trade so trade up options for them arent really there)

I think Ward goes 1 and Sanders would be trade into end of 1st material, and then Dart say goes early 2nd. There are far better players at other positions that "should" go thruout the 1st.

Overall i think it's a pure BPA type draft for teams, as they come off the board teams will pick the next BPA. No reaches.

I tend to agree, that said I didn’t expect Penix, Nix or JJ McC to go as high as they did last year.

You can never underestimate a QB needy team doing the unexpected.

True that.

I guess if Cousins and Rodgers sign with Saints and Steelers (Browns already signed Flacco) those QB needy teams wont feel the need to reach -- too early at least.

Titans, Ward
Jets Fields
Giants, Wilson and Winston
Browns, Flacco.

Only really Steelers are ****ed with only Rudolph (not good enough) that theyd draft a first round QB. I guess Saints too now with Carr injured.

Only Sanders is probably worth trading into the 1st for. Dart aint that good really, and nowhere near as good as Maye, McCarthy, Penix were. McCord, Howard, Slough, Milroe etc are not 1st material.

Maybe Milroe and Dart could go early second as teams like Jets, Saints look to trade up into early 2nd for.

Steelers dont have a 2nd so theyd be sure things imo to pick Sanders at 21. Far too early for him at 9 with the Saints.

Therefore....can see it Steelers desperate forced to take Sanders at 21. Jets/Saints move up to take Milroe and Dart in the 2nd. Browns use a 3rd or 4th on next-best QB like McCord/Howard.

For many teams yes, but there are major reaches every single year. This year will surely have a few too.

The only reaches would be for QB imo. Saints, Browns, Steelers are the only teams kinda desperate.

Plenty of teams think now they can have their cake and eat it too, but draft day rarely pans out like that....

Giants and/or Browns waiting for their QB to get them cheaper may find them snaffled by another team earlier they they plan to re-enter the draft.

Dart will go higher than most expect, and even though the Sanders talk has gone quiet I'd be shocked if he was there beyond 10 (someone will trade up for him).

The rankings and mock drafts are all over the shop this year, especially once you hit 10 and onwards.

Teams are going to think they've got a bargain, while others will be stunned they've been drafted so low.

What often isnt mentioned is that all NFL teams conduct and simulate their own mock drafts, multiple times, factoring in potential trades and unexpected selections by other teams. This helps explain how certain GMs are good at waiting patiently and jumping in to make a trade up to a certain exact spot to select a player before another team takes them....or...astutely trading back a certain distance knowing a targeted player will be there for them...the foresight, especially seen in mid to late rounds when it is harder to predict how rival teams think and the sheer number of players in the mid to late rounds whose rankings would be all over the place.

Another interesting thing about the big board ranking process -- not only does it go on constantly thruout the season and off-season, but once boards are for the most part set months prior to the draft, set in tiers, the players very seldom move up or down multiple tiers, only some may move up/down a tier at most as draft day approaches....in other words, all the chatter of quick risers and big fallers is more of the media's manufacturing to generate extra interest and speculation. It isn't actually derived or gleaned from NFL front offices, like an insider scoop, or GMs suddenly going "oh theres talk of a quick rising player, or on another team's board, so we ought to re-rank that player on our board accordingly".

Also, to further illustrate this....many teams have multiple boards....a big board, a short board, a shorter board, a separate board for "flagged" players that still interest, a board for potential UDFAs that interest them. For example....a short and shorter board....one might have only 90 players in total on there, and the other only say 60....and the GM conducting his draft using mainly the ahort boards.....hence why some teams seem to be reaching a lot or trading back a lot....because they're focusing on a much shorter list of players that interest them or that they deem fits for their club....while other GMs might use only their big board with 250+ players on it, or other GMs jumping between multiple boards as the draft goes along as they assess/re-assess how it is panning out.

Also..as all NFL teams only have about 15-25 players graded as 1st rounders in any given normal year....the reason teams trade back into the mid to late first is because there is a player still on the board that they've given a 1st round grade to, more so than say them reaching, thinking....oh here's a player we've given an early to mid 2nd round grade to, but this or that other team could take him in the early-mid 2nd so we better jump into the late 1st and get him.

More likely GMs using all that draft capital and the value of a 1st rounder itself, including potential salary of player, on a player actually deemed a legit 1st rounder.

In other words .. I'm alluding here to this particular draft, bereft of 1st round graded players, and therefore why we might not see any teams trade into the late 1st for Sanders, Dart, McCord, Milroe....if teams really dont have them graded as 1st rounders then instead we'll see trades up for them more in the early to mid 2nd round if thats where theyre graded.

I guess it could still happen if some GM or two have graded a player like Milroe as a 1st...high ceiling, boom/bust developmental type. Sanders possibly more chance of being graded a 1st by more teams.

In other words....if Sanders goes anywhere from 9-21, maybe thats it. Or maybe only Milroe late 1st.

Or maybe we see Ward #1 and next QB (Sanders) taken early 2nd (eg, Browns) if most/all teams really do have a 2nd round grade on him.

Browns fans would peobably be stoked if they got Hunter at #2 and Sanders at #33, say.

If history repeats. i guess Milroe to Steelers at 21. Browns trade up with Eagles for #32 and take Sanders. As day two begins, Saints trade up into early 30's and take Dart.

;)

I honestly think all those 4 QBs are gone by pick 15. In other drafts there were better prospects this draft is pretty meh when it comes to top end talent so I see no problem reaching on a QB in this draft especially when you get 5th option on 1st round picks which will save you about 35 mil+ if that qb is any good cos you will have to resign him a year later with 5th year option.
