The issue isn't the talls, it's the midfielders. They need basically a completely different performance this week or we will get destroyed again. Starting with pressure.
we need to start by trying to win the footy. We seemed more focused on the dogs mids than the footy last week and chased tail all game as a result. Steele and McRae are too slow in the same midfield if oppo gets a clean break from stoppage too

I had Heath in my team, but all the physical deficiencies (not the specifics but the depth of it) that are true about Keeler are also true about Boyd, and one is 21 and the other one is 27. Has Boyd even been tried forward at Sandy?

Keeler was quite good last week in the vfl. Some good marks, a goal, great smother in the 1st quarter. He wasn't as good as Heath or Boxhall or Hastie, but not nearly as bad as some are making out. I would play Heath, but imo Keeler played a decent game v Footscray
Heath will get his opportunity with no King until late in the season, just has to earn it first

Nah, I think Boyd is a ruck or nothing. Even at Sandy Heath and Keeler arr better options, and even then I think Heath much more a ruck than a forward.

I also dont understand it -mids had their pants pulled down properly last week-young mid had a huge game in the VFL-you would think it 101 to bring him up also agree with Heath-Brisbane will be far to physical for Keeler
They might think it's better for his development and confidence to get another 25-30 touches in the VFL than to debut against Neale, McCluggage, Dunkley and Ashcroft.
No doubt he will get a game soon.

Ross Lyon said in his presser that Keeler was one of the best VFL performers at the weekend

So no, its not rewarding poor performance - us fans don't have access to GPS numbers and most don't even watch the VFL games so they wouldn't know about all the contests Keeler gets to and how often he brings the ball to ground

Clearly the coaches liked how Keeler responded to being dropped so he's back in the team

Let's back the kid and the selection panel in and hope he can play his role in beating the Premiers
C'mon - lets face it - he's not gonna sh**can someone he is going to select. Didn't mention Heath who had a vastly superior game.

I did watch the game and I will say that Heath was much more impressive as a fwd than Keeler (and vastly more impressive as a ruckman).

Anyway - with Howard back and King now virtually on the LTI list, I want them to go back to Caminiti at FF and would prefer to see someone like O'Connell, Hastie, Barratt or Tauru fill the 3rd tall defender spot.

For this game Hammer might start back and go forward if we're able to get some entries going.
I was an advocate for hammer gettig a 6 week block in defence and as it's happened he's doing much better in that position, however things being as they are it's time to put him at FF again and blood a young KPD or even give Ari a chance at more than 1 game in a row.
This week will be another damage control exercise but starting with the Dockers next week we need to solidify our spine and start putting our foot down.

Steele 100% fit according to RTB. Let’s see how he goes Saturday. Pressure is on him.

Some random rang SEN today and said Marshall was in a moon boot all last week. Why wasn’t that reported by the track watchers? First I’ve heard.

He played like he’d been in a wheelchair all week.
Reported he was not training last week. What do you want me to do? Stalk him?

Agree with all of that - though we need to be smart when to introduce Boxshall - don’t think Lions are the ideal midfield to face first up.

Boxshall keeps performing he will get his chance soon enough.
Boxshall has been consistant in the vfl & had an absolute stand out, last game. And he already has an afl body. Deserved to be in this week.

Boxshall doesn't suit our structure enough over a Jones, a Byrnes or any of our fringe players - was always unlikely to play this weekend unless he debuted as sub

Jones can play wing if we want to change our midfield setup mid-game (run Nas/Sinc/Owens through the middle)
Byrnes can play defence if we want to play Nas/Sinc higher up the ground

Boxshall does not enable that elasticity. Coaches won't change their structure purely to fit a debutant in

Playing VFL probably doesn't stunt his development anyway so happy to just let him put together a block of really high-quality performances before he gets his chance
What? your saying Jones, Nas, Sincs, Owens haven't? played those stated positions already this year.
Our midfield is ordinary, been banged on about yeah.
Boxshall has a ready made Afl body.
Steele has been under-performing for too long.
We have Boxshall, Owens & Phillipou who could/can all play his role.
Also, I am a Jones fan, but if you aren't performing consistantly, give someone else like Boxshall a go.
A midfield of two outside wingmen, ruckman, & 3 big-bodied insiders, like Boxshall, Macrae & Owens is structurely adequate surely.
Then give Steele a forward role, where he has performed OK at times.

Unless Keeler has some special shaman powers that suddenly switch on the other 17 players on the ground into SUPER POWER BOOST MODE there is zero correlation between winning or losing and the selection of Keeler.

There's a very strong correlation so far. As strong as possible given the limited data set. We've won the 3 games that he's played and lost the 3 games that he hasn't played. I think you might be suggesting there's no causation.

does anyone on here have gastro? Would you mind cooking up a nice rogan josh and delivering it to jack steele's house asap, the Boxcutter deserves a game

He'd probably just play with shit smeared down his legs dragging himself around the ground on his hands and knees, then Ross would say he was 100% good to go.

Would rather him winning a flag at the Pies than Gresham or Battle at their mobs.
Yep.
Understand why he went, but still a bit sad about it tbh.
I was a big fan since the first day he arrived with those awful tatts.

Geelong and Sydney both hold players back in the VFL until they are ready to hit the AFL running. There are multiple ways to develop kids. We are going to have to start doing more of it as we have the bulk of our list under 23 at some point. Pretty confident that Boxshall has enough to make it so far.
Box answered that question last weekend I thought.
If their picking Steele or Jones injured that can't tackle over a fit Box, that's not good.
Let's see how well they go. I hope their fit and firing and back to their defensive pressure best.
Our whole game plan is based on pressure, defense, turn over so if you play injured players that can't hold a tackle and apply pressure your whole plan breaks down at the source.
