Review Freo do the Len Hall game proud with a 3 goal win over Crom

Came home with the impression Johnson made quite a few errors. Watched the reply, and under appreciated what he did defensively. He is a huge midfielder. Riley Thilthorpe couldn’t stop him. He shrugged Rory O’Brien, was immense in the contest. Was involved in plenty of successful handball chains.

Yes the same here re Johnson . Also ppl say he hasnt improved but he has hugely.. dont think he got caught HTB at all yesterday. But last year it happened a lot.

Got caught once but his attack on the ball and tackling much improved V last week Think he is the type of player JLO needs to rattle his gage pre game every week

One of the Adelaide defenders was trying to rough up Amiss. After Treacy broke them up. I thoroughly enjoyed Treacy letting one of him know he should stand in the hole in front of him. He directed Amiss to position himself in front of him (Treacy), from what I could lip read “stand there, I’ll destroy you” or something like that. He would have pointed 5x to the space in front of him. “Didn’t think so”, was how it ended.
That’s ****en gold.

he’s got genuine Carey qualities about him ,JT (the football ones b4 anyway whines)

The other thing that annoys be about MJ is he is the epitome of a one way runner. When he has the ball he seems to magically find the afterburners and pace to pull away. When the opposition has it he appears half hearted at best in his chasing. He's happy enough to tackle and use his size on the inside at stoppages, but when the ball gets outside to the opposition he just goes through the motions, corralling at half speed at best. Brayshaw is the ultimate example of a 2 way player.

It would partially excuse MJ's disposal if he was desperate and ferocious defensively, but he just isn't.
What are load of crap Johnson isn’t any different to most players when it comes to attacking and defending. He had the 3rd highest pressure acts on the ground (twice as many as Serong) and 2nd fut is just behind Switter.

I thought Johnson showed glimpses of the player he’s going to be last night. He’s spent his entire junior career bullying opposition players & waltzing out of stoppages giving himself the time to kick the ball.

He was far more composed with ball in hand last night but let himself down with the pressured handball. This is not something he has had to worry about at junior level & is still finding his feet in tweaking his game style.

They do plenty of game sense stoppage ball movement drills at training & this would be front of mind for him & the coaches & I’m sure he’ll improve quickly. It was exciting how much he got it & he just needs to keep on believing in himself at this level.

He’s still a bit of a kid in a mans body & isn’t one of those kids who have that instant belief they belong. But once he does & it all clicks, look out. It will look like the game has slowed down with the ball in his hand.

I would liked to have seen Narkle subbed in a bit earlier. Didn't see enough of his potential. Surely he gets a do-over next week?
I know this is going to sound like another gripe against JL - but if you were betting for any coach leaving a player on the pine until midway through the fourth on his debut game it would be JL. It's a perfect example of just how conservative he is.

Agree that the Johnson criticism feels very hyperbolic, sure he made a few errors but overall he did much more right than wrong, especially with his defensive work. Those wanting him dropped are going to be disappointed.

Same goes for Sharp - possessions don’t mean everything and what he did do right was guard space very well and ran all night. Even if he isn’t chosen as an option it meant that the crows had to stay accountable defensively, opening up space for someone else.

This epitomises team defense and why we looked so much better than last week.

Special mention to Karl Worner - man was I wrong about this bloke, 3 good games on the trot. Hopefully he keeps backing those performances up.

Test now comes against a team we should beat coming off a good win at home. Let’s see if we learnt our lesson from the Dee’s game.

No surprise on Worner considering he has been given a block of games. The in and out selections really don’t help improve youth coming in but sometimes it has to be done. I just wish they would have continued giving Ras a run of games when we were winning and I recon he’d be in the same boat.

Yeah I don't feel comfortable with sinking the boots into a bloke who just turned 22.

He has a lot of improvement needed and people have the right to criticize that but some of the comments have been downright atrocious and disrespectful. Makes me wonder if BF will degenerate the same way as the Dockers Facebook, Insta, Reddit pages have. Once the non-stop capital letter words find their way in there's no turning back.

Crows bloke gets a week for the punch on Brayshaw....You know the one the commentary team said "didnt have anything much in it".
I can’t stand listening to Pav commentating our games.

Some of his comments are over the top all in an endeavour to appear neutral towards the Dockers and keep his job.

Stick to reading the sports news Pav.

I totally agree about Worner and I too admit to being wrong about him. He was playing on a very dangerous forward in Ben Keays for most of the game. Coming into the game Keays was averaging slightly over 2 goals and around 20 possession a game and Worner kept him goalless. Worner reminds me a bit of Garrick Ibbitson in the way he plays and I mean that as a compliment. Garrick was a very good player for Freo and was terrific overhead but a bit over cautious with ball in hand.

Ironically Will Schofield says way more positive things about Freo than Pav does.

I don't get the idea that Schofield hates us at all, anyone who has listened to Back Chat knows he loves us, he likes us more than West Coast nowadays, I think his year at Peel Thunder probably helped with that.

The Pavlich discourse is funny to me, everyone here thinks he's too harsh on us yet you go on any other club's board and everyone thinks Pav is too biased TOWARDS us, they reckon he cheers for us blatantly.

i think because we only hear the criticism. but they can hear subtle undertones present in his speeches.

This is why I would keep Omac in as the third tall and move Jackson on-ball. It gives Voss a chance to work on his kicking at contested marking at Peel.
What would you do with Darcy? Jackson and Darcy can’t both be the 1st ruck and the one who isn’t has to spend probably at least 50% of game time up forward

It was like I said in the post game thread at the time. In the first home game after Reid's second or third little trick, one that clearly marked him out a rare talent, Pav makes this little exclamatory grunt.
Our fans mostly wouldn't even have heard it, but opposition fans, correctly, heard; **** YEAH, ITS CHRISTMAS!

I got to have a good yarn with him at the derby BackChat promo gig recently.

He literally said he's a complete neutral when it comes to both Freo/West Coast, and that he's actually a Geelong supporter.

I think he's pretty down the line.

Pav's a hard one to figure out - people will jarr me for this but sometimes he gives off a Basil Zempilas vibe, in that's he's looking to ascend much higher in the corporate media world and to do that, he's willing to stick the boots in a little more than necessary.

I could be reading it completely wrong, and maybe he's worried about looking biased - something that so many ex-footy player commentators haven't particularly bothered about.

Richo sighing and whinging after Ballas late goal in 2013 stands out, as does Lingy complaining about how far behind Geelong were against us in the 2012 EF.
