Forwards can take as many marks up the ground they want. No damage.2 goals.
He also took a whopping 10 marks, which was three more than any other player on the ground for either team.

I would be happy to see him in the magoos however we are simply not flush with options. To think we have bottomed out for 7 years and still haven't been able to build a competitive backline.Wouldnt mind seeing mcDonald as sub..

And we had 11.Wasn't up the ground.
As I said, Port had a collective 15 marks inside forward 50. Do you understand how insane that is?
By way of comparison, here's some other teams that won this weekend and the amount of marks inside forward 50 they got this week;
Carlton (def. Geelong 94-76): 14 marks I50
Gold Coast (def. Sydney 117-79): 13 marks I50
Bulldogs (def. GWS 113-81): 7 marks I50
Freo (def. Adelaide 85-67): 7 marks I50
This notion that everything's hunky-dory because Port had a few brainfarts and kicked a ball into the man on the mark in the goalsquare, or shanked an easy snap 5 m out on a slight angle, or missed a few easy set shots... doesn't change what actually happened out on that footy field.
I think he's trying to draw a connection between Pink in the side and less marks inside our D50.And we had 11.
The week before Carlton also had 15 marks inside 50 with our AA back men of corr and logue in there.
Not that I think anything is hunky-dory, just puzzled at the picking out of i50 marks this week.
It happens nearly every week against us lol

Im not sure anyone thinks our kpds played great, but we certainly looked more agile and adaptable.Wasn't up the ground.

On the flip side, Konstanty should have soccered that goal through, mckercher shat himself and kicked it on the full, and throw in Larkey not hitting a barn door.He missed a 10m snap being a smartass kicking the wrong side of the ball.
And one from the goal square kicking it into Comben on the mark.
Flattering.

In almost every close Roos game for the last 5 years, you will find this 10 minutes period, where the opposition gets a run on and wins the game.
This is where on-field leadership is required to shut down play by taking possession and keeping it out of the hands of the opposition. No long kicks down the line, but work to retain the ball and take the heat out of the moment.
I'm with you on this stuff. I think worth remembering still that our core (the ones that are useful) is amongst the youngest going around. In particular this week when we drop two of our most experienced players it becomes younger again in both age and game terms. That we improved after this is a good sign.Fighting my hardest to not say I was happy with our performance Saturday. Start of the year my whole mindset was ‘no honourable losses’, but considering how putrid the last few weeks have been, at least they showed some effort. God it would of been nice to snag that win.
My frustrations at the moment is I think this list currently is a 7th to 10th list. ‘Currently’. Obviously in the hope our young blokes improve to lift us higher. The Freo’s, the ports, the crows, the suns, the saints, I think our list sits around those teams that will be fighting for those remaining 2 finals spots. The difference currently is effort and to a lesser extent, execution.
Ive actually swayed a bit on our biggest issue being skills, to our biggest issue being effort, after watching some of the other games this year. The Easter Monday game was nearly the worst skilled game I’ve ever seen in my life, and even the cats blues game yesterday was horrible. Turnover after turnover, and skill error after skill error. But what those teams did better than us, is the want and effort to get the ball back after a f*** up. Especially their backlines.
I reckon we actually showed a bit of that after quarter time on the weekend. The want to not give up even after a brain dead turnover. Now if we come out against the bombers and revert back to our normal ‘world ends with every turnover, heads drop’ efforts, then I’ll lose it.
Yeah this is spot on. Every close game, the time on 3 or 4 goals kicked against us is realView attachment 2297901

I reckon we have a pattern of elevated I50s early and late in games with no effect, ie OOB, turned over.View attachment 2297901

Dawson. Watched him a few times at Willi CYMS and he is quite adapt at playing forward.Pink or Dawson?
That’s the challenge for them. Collingwood and other teams are able to sustain their effort consistently. That has to be a non-negotiable, doesn’t it?That screams unsustainable tbh. Was apparent the boys put a shift in but were let down by their skill level, particular from the veterans.
Can't see them being able to back that up effort with a 5 day break.
It’s a real problem area. It’s almost like both teams start on an even keel and spar for about 20 minutes. Then, inevitably, our opposition coaches make little tweaks that always seem to catch us on the hop. Presto, they score five goals before we re-adjust. Game(s) over.View attachment 2297901

Yep. Another momentum killer. Hate singling people out but he does a bit of that. A bit like Simpkins turnovers.McDonald gifting them a 50 and subsequent goal when we’d just pulled it back to 6 points is the one that shits me most. Just brain dead, lazy, completely avoidable stuff from a leader.
