Maybe but he isn’t going to be a great player so we need to stop being nice and investing years into these guys.

His second year was a right off with that knee injury and he is slowly coming back.

Though id rather he started the year in the WAFL to get that confidence back.

Just think we got to be more ruthless, they should no what they have within the first 20 games.

Being ruthless is one thing. Delisting a kid that has lost development time due to injury when our list is still not at a competitive level is kinda pointless.

Cripps will retire soon, Owies has a short shelf life, Brockman has some good traits but the jury is out on whether he's going to make it, Champion is in his first year and will take a couple of seasons to get going.

It's not like Long is holding anyone else up at the minute.

You know premierships aren’t won with teams of 23 great players, right?

Some very short memories

He could be a very good small forward. He was very good in that role in his first year, then he did his knee.

And like nearly every player that has ever done a knee and come back he's struggled in his first few games back after the knee. Give him a chance

I think we all agree that Petch needs to go. We need one of Long or Brockman to come on and hold down a spot. With Cripps and Ryan nearing the end we desperately need some talent in that fwd half.

This is what happens when there's so many holes in the list. You end up chasing your tail, out of mids, a ruck, KPD and small forwards. I would put small forwards at the end of that priority list.

We've got Banfield and Walley coming in next year

Yep no shit Sherlock , but they certainly are not won with very average list cloggers.
We have a solid percentage of players who simply will not find another list once delisted. Yet we keep holding on to them.
Don’t reckon Mini will however, he has to change this substandard culture around.

There’s a lot of space between “won’t ever be a great player” and “list clogger who wouldn’t get a list spot anywhere else”.

You’ve put Long into the latter category far too soon.

Get your hand off it, this is a mid week training session during the season. Very common for players to not do a lot so they can get ready for the game.

Normal for a travelling team at the first training session for players to be managed.
This is the 200% reason why VAFL should let WA clubs have extra list spots, the toll on bodies and recovery.

Not to mention the shorter break this week so just looking after the older guys, nothing to see here.

1/3 of our list wouldn't get a spot on most other teams lists. What makes matters worst is the fact we have to spend a certain percentage of our salary cap which also means we are over paying under achieving players who would be on the bare minimum contract elsewhere.

Look you are probably right, regarding recovery and all, but to have 6 of the most senior guys, leaders, just not at training is a pretty poor look.

They don't have to get involved with any mildly intense running or drills, just be there, show up. Help out, encourage the young guys etc etc.

This is why we are getting dragged from pillar to post by all regarding our lack of leadership.

What kind of an impression on the young guys would it make if say Waterman turns up to training to help set out the cones and return kicks when he doesn't need to be there? This is simple stuff that the club just can't seem to get right lately

I'm definitely not going in to bat for Petruccelle, but he kicked 2 goals on the weekend. Players have been promoted for less.

Personally, I think he's a list-clogger that will be delisted by the end of the year. But I'm surprised that he doesn't seem to have any supporters anymore
Sorry, that was a throw-away comment based on the WAFL commentary. They started by saying he had done bugger all, and barely stopped short of recommending a firing squad.
