I think we should drop Maric he is giving away to many goals a game with his kicking
Bring in Brock for him gives us another genuine tall in the backline that we need

I hate at the moment we are sacrificing Ginbey game because we are making him play on talls
We lose Ginbey drive when we play him on talls

Maric frustrates me and I think his numbers flatter him. That said he still has upside and one of the guys we back in for the year and see if he can gel into that role. On the weekend he turned it over but had some rip snorter kicks. Relatively new to the role and with experience and confidence he’ll learn when and when not to bite off those kicks. Hopefully he learn it soon and becomes a gov/hurn rather than a witho.

My biggest frustration is his lack of physicality and I do think he needs to spend a summer properly bulking up cause defensively he looks so shaky against any forward that isn’t a small.

His composure is also been worrying but in his brief 7 games that defensive unit has had a beating.

With Hough in the middle we could bring Brock in and free Ginbey to play as a run and gun.

I dunno I've been totally fine with Maric. It's hard to be a rebounder by foot type when we're getting killed and the movement up the ground is that stagnant. Half the time what looks like poor composure is actually moving the play on as per team instructions but his teammates not doing their job up the ground IMO.

I just like that he hasn't gone into his shell, keeps trying those options and actually seems to be able to find it back there.

He's taken some good intercept marks the last few weeks also - yeah his physicality isn't a strength but in an ideal world (one where we're a good side and actually winning the midfield battle and the entries coming in are more rushed) I see him as someone who more takes those floaty 2 on 1 intercepts and can then take off, with teammates covering for him like good sides do.

He'll naturally get bigger and stronger as he gets older and better one on one as he plays there more, but wouldn't want him to bulk up to the point where he loses any of his mobility.

I agree. I can see Hurn's coaching quite clearly. He is telling him to keep taking the risky kicks so he learns how to get them right. Hurn was a turnover merchant when young but kept improving to a point where he became multiple AA in his 30s. I reckon we'll see a good improvement from Maric in the next 12 months.

Without Hough putting the clamps on I’m worried about Pickett. He’d carve Cole a new one!
BBW back to play on Gawn?
Gawn is in rare form and will destroy Flynn.Petracca and Oliver will have a field day!
With the lack of depth in his kicking I’d definitely try A Reid in defence.

I think Dewar is overdue for a spell and needs to play ressies. Showed great signs early.
Long should probably get a full game.
But I'd still keep him sub and get Gross back, fitness pending.
Them 2 can sub whenever. imho

Who the hell wants Billiams back? He is one of, if not the worst AFL player in history to get regular games. Flynn may get beaten in the ruck but he plays well around the ground. Maybe the mids should make sure they are glued to their opponents at stoppages if they expect to lose the hitout.....like how teams used to play WC when Naitanui was rucking. Billiams should never see another AFL field

Out: A.Reid (managed), Dewar, Owies
In: Kelly, Allan, Johnston

Backs: Allen, Gov, Maric, Ginbey, Duggan, Baker, Allan
Mids: Kelly/Reid, Hutch, Hough, Hewett, Hunt, Johnston
Rucks: Flynn, Jilliams
Forwards: Waterman, Ryan, Davis, Cripps, Graham, Long, Reid/Kelly
Sub: Cole
Emergencies: Owies (held over), A.Reid, Gross

Allan to debut in place of Cole who moves to sub.

Allen to stay back, Archer Reid to be rested since it’s going to be wet. Kelly in, he and Harley can alternate as makeshift forward targets, they’re both dangerous enough to give the Dees defenders headaches.

Johnston straight swap for Dewar.

Long into the 22 for Owies.

When Cole gets subbed in Allen can swing forward or Baker can go into the middle, depending on circumstances.

Couldn’t find room for Gross in the 22 unfortunately, as a byproduct of Kelly coming back and Hough moving into the middle. Would rather he plays a full game of WAFL than as the sub in the seniors.

It is tempting to bring Williams in because he does for some reason play well against the taller bean pole style rucks and can beat out Gawn for centre hit-outs. We have no ability to capitalise on that though and Flynn has gone well around the ground since coming in so leave it.

Hands are a bit tied here for me, don't agree on the recalls of Long or Cole but with Hough in the middle Cole is needed to have 7 kicked on him by Kosi. Can't drop a sub [actually Gross was dropped from there so technically you can but] Long gets a full game. Owies needs to go out so can't do anything about Cripps. Leave Allen back, he might not be the solution but he will definitely be better for it and it's a good spot for him for now. Dewar can't be in this team if Davis is playing on his wing, he's due a rest at WAFL level. Can't drop Hunt he's running harder than anyone in the side and has bobbed up for goals the last 2 weeks as well. Whatever is going on with Duggan's shoulder just say it's sore and manage him, makes life easier for selectors. Brockman to sub, he's a burst player and we're leaving the sub until 4th qtr the last few weeks, have him come in and just go flat out for 15 minutes.

F: Cripps, Waterman, Reid
HF: Long, Williams, Ryan
C: Davis, Hough, Hunt
HB: Ginbey, Gov, Cole
B: Maric, Allen, Baker
Fol: Flynn, Reid, Hewett
Int: Graham, Gross, Hutchinson, Kelly
Sub: Brockman

Out: Duggan [shoulder], Dewar, Owies
In: Gross, Kelly, Brockman

Maric is what, 20 years old and 36 games in?

Definitely stick with him, developing well and keep encouraging him to take on those difficult kicks.
I thought the fox footy show where David King showed what he is doing with kick outs
He has given up two goals every game he has played this year from kick outs he is the worst in the competition
at the moment for kicking the ball in

We're also an extremely disconnected football team with a midfield that is known for it's laziness over the last few seasons.

I don't think that's (just) a Maric problem, I think it's a systematic problem.

I'll also cop a few kick out errors, it's a new role for him that he's growing into.

If you are bottom of the ladder and have the most scored against, whoever is taking your kick ins probably is going to be the guy who's had the most points scored against him. He could be chipping it to the short option every time and avoid this, but is obviously under instruction to be extremely bold with his ball use and personally I'm loving it. It's worth however many goals it costs us. I'd rather have goals kicked against for Maric channelling prime Lewis Jetta and often pulling it off, than having goals kicked against for spuds up the field not being able to hit a 2m handball. Defenders have a bigger budget for these things than mids or forwards, Maric isn't the problem.
