We are a smaller club that needs to take it's chances in order to get ahead.
What's our point of difference? As the President and others have said, we want to be the number 1 club for Indigenous talent in the country. We have invested greatly in this area of the club. We exchange Indigenous gifts with the opposition before every home game. There's a reason why we do all this stuff. It's not just for fun.
We have strong leaders and role models for Jamarra on and off the field. I think Ross would be a better coach for him than Bevo. That's just the feeling I get.
I'm not convinced that the situation is as cut and dry as has been reported around JUH. As has been alluded to, there are mental health issues as well that he's working through.
We are at the forefront of mental health awareness in the AFL with Spud's Game and the legacy that Danny left behind. Consider that and our commitment to being the standout club for our Indigenous brothers and sisters.
Let's see a forward line of Max King and Jamarra Ugle-Hagan in 2026. It's time to be bold.
Take best available or a role-player?Do you have a favourite or just take whoever is available?
Jelly?
SoWas told this a couple weeks ago but didn't want to report something I was not 100% on but someone with port connections gave me some Goss that saints and port have an agreement that we have a "handshake" agreement with port. Nas for Butters. Pretty much a straight swap but we are adamant Nas is gonna stay and we are happy to trade for Butters.
This may be considered old news now that Jay Clark is saying we could be keen but I just want to be a part of things now.
You wouldn’t want to trade Nas and a first for Butters? No disrespect at all to Nas but I would be jumping for joy if him leaving meant securing Butters. Bergman would slot right into Nas role and we would gain the best player in the comp when it comes to filling our biggest weakness.
Looking at it in isolation, Butters is the exact type of player and character we are crying out for. He’s a competitor in every sense of the word and if we reflect on our last 3 performances the lack of midfield resistance has been on display for all to see.
Not only is he a top 10 midfielder in the comp, he’s a campaigner and he hates losing. He will challenge any group to be better and leaves it out there every week.
100% is a need. Just not for NAS. Just have to work out how to sign him. Fly his family here for every match, let him go home for a break during the week once a month or something.
Butters isn’t a common type. He’s averaging 30 touches with 15 contested. They’re Dangerfield type numbers. No kick out stats in his numbers either, he’s already what you’re saying NWM will be. Nas looks like a gun but Butters is top tier.Butters is better now but Nas looks like he is projecting to be an absolutely elite freak. He could legit be the best player in the comp in a few years, Butters is a top 20 mid but he's a type that are a lot more common.
Like giving up Buddy for Ben Brown.
Would probably need a couple of other programs in place .On Ugle Hagan we do have a very good indiginous program which might be appealing & most likely either the most or 2nd most indiginous players per club.
The majority of media are useless , unfortunately there is always crap being pushed by ex players of big clubs.I think everyone (Cal Towmey included) is just taking the opportunity to pile on us now that we’ve lost three in a row.
That our performance might sway NAS’s decision.
There’s an industry-wide narrative that no player would want to come to or stay with the Saints.
Like somehow teams like Carlton are more attractive prospects than us.
Parole?Would probably need a couple of other programs in place .
I feel we have a real chance with getting Butters - I don't care who else they are talking about , Butters is a midfielder we need and with our young guys coming through like Phillipou and Toby we will be in good shape for the future.

Bont has a lot better contest and clearance ability as well as being able to play as a pseudo key forward. The only similarity is the movement and classy foot skills imoFeel free to call me out if I am off the mark as I haven't done an in depth comparison on early vision but Nas just gives me very strong Bont vibes.
