It's unfortunately a socialist way of thinking the attacks on geelong... Essentially its “ there must be some form of abuse or oppression causing inequality” and it cannot be due to skill or success of our club and coaches.

Its the belief that differences lie inequality of outcomes rather than due to skill and talent
Oranges grow at different heights in trees.. some higher to the sun and develop sooner.. other lower and not was well formed.

We are one of the AFLs top oranges consistently bright and well developed.
Pisses the lower hanging lemons right off..
Must be some super fertilizer… but we are all able to grow in the same tree.. we just better at it..

Melbourne have made there own bed and I doubt anyone will bail them out.

If that is really how his contract is set it’s insane that Melbourne agreed to that.

Any trade to any club would need to be contingent on Melbourne paying a % rather than a set amount.
Agree with the % stipulation but even if that was in play.. I’d still be Bruce Nankervis about getting him in.

Demons will have to sweeten the pot a long way (Bowes plus pick) to clear it off their books IMO.

At some point you just have to cut it all out.

Denver Broncos (my team) in NFL paid out QB Russell Wilson 37 million to play for another team for one year (other team paid 1 million) and we paid him 40 million the year before.
Sometimes you just gave to accept the penalty of the mistake and pay it out to get clear.

If it's 65% then we're still paying him close to a million a year.

Have you seen him play this year too? Melbourne is swimming with a cast iron life jacket trying to keep him out there. The defensive holes he's creating is drowning them
I'm not saying it's going to happen, who knows.. im just saying Melbourne might even pay more.
Who knows

That would still make him one of the highest paid players at the club and us likely paying around $1million+ come the later years of his deal

When we have our current players accepting less to stay at the club, that would seem bit of a kick in the guts based on what we've seen from Oliver over the last 18 months or so

If there's a choice between paying $1million+ for Oliver or putting that money towards a player like TDK, my preference would be the guy who's going to make an immediate, positive impact to our midfield... And maybe help his brother learn a bit of mongrel
Oh for f%)k sake I'm only guessing 🙄

It's possible but if Melbourne have to pay that they will probably just keep him and I doubt we want to pay 65 % of 1.3mil and rising.
I'm only guessing when I say 35%.. it might be more. Could be 50% who knows 🤷‍♂️ or it could be like Bowes deal..
I'm not saying this is going to happen.. im just discussing about IF Oliver came to Geelong

Oliver would need to be a Bowes type deal now.

Dees don't even hold a first-rounder to offer up to take his crazy contract.

Dees are in trouble.

Well done Brad Green... Whatta leader lol.

Was gonna say, it'd require a salary dump with a first attached.
They don't even have their first lol

I'm not sure... Could happen like this
Geelong pay for 65% and Melbourne pay for 35% and he stays on his agreed salary
Especially if Melbourne finish bottom 6 and won't be contender for years
65% of that deal is still way too much. We would walk away from that deal.

The bigger question is why DO you think it's a good idea? He's an awful player these days and still has a lot of issues.

Yeah I'm 50-50... I want to see how he does for the rest of the year
Oliver's stats look okay. But if you hate yourself like I do, watch a bunch of Melbourne games and see how he actually contributes offensively/defensively. He's a big reason their midfield get demolished most weeks.

You know how LDU opened the game last night, his disposals ending in opposition goals? That's Oliver...except he can also barely move.

From experience - going from 70k to 130k a year moves the needle a lot more dare I say than the difference between 900 to 1.5, as big as the x10 increase is. Once basic needs are met I don’t think it matters that much depending on your mindset.

On Clark, I think he’s a victim of his draft number. If he’d been a rookie we’d all be excited with what he’s shown. Essendon took a back flanker with pick one and I’d bet LH has a better career at a pick in the sixties.

Swings, roundabouts & perspective.
You wouldn’t be excited if Clark was a rookie, he has done nothing, turn over king last week!

They are obsolete now, can’t get on the park

🤦‍♀️

I wouldn't call either Edwards (19) or Conway (22) currently obsolete - they're both young, and developing into 206cm+ frames which isn't exactly easy

Both are also being integrated back into training and I'd say the hope is to see them in the back half of the season

Acquiring a player like TDK wouldn't exactly render either obsolete, though they could look at their options

We may have dodged a bullet, but something tells me he would've been a totally different player/person down here on the coast.
I think we over-estimate our own healing powers.

Don't forget Bundy, Jesse Stringer, Ablett Sr, the unnamed player currently charged by police with very serious crimes, Billie Smedts, Jack Steven... not to mention some of the allegations of bad behaviour from the 80s. Plenty of players have behaved badly, developed addictions, or been caught up with the Wrong People while in the hoops. The coastal air isn't a magical curative.

Adelaide: 8
Brisbane: 9
Carlton: 15
Collingwood: 12
Essendon: 9
Fremantle: 7
Geelong: 7
Gold Coast: 6
GWS: 5
Hawthorn: 10
Melbourne: 8
North Melbourne: 10
Port Adelaide: 12
Richmond: 6
St.Kilda: 13
Sydney: 7
Western Bulldogs: 8
West Coast: 8

Players acquired from other clubs via trade or FA.
MSD, SSP and DFA's not included.

For all the bleating about Geelong. Most of the league has got more players from elsewhere than we do.
What we need now is a list showing to which teams current players want to be traded to / recruited by, according to the click-bait media. We'd be near the top, but as we know most of it is fake news

Agree on a few of those points.
But my gut feel is my gut feel.
Unfortunately we will never ever know now.

You absolutely couldn't play both TDK and Conway in the same side. I haven't seen Edwards play yet.

You may not play them in the same side, but having a competent & available back-up is important

Maybe they attract interest from elsewhere, but if they don't then we could do worse than have a fit (🤞) Conway on our list, playing VFL and ready for a senior recall when required

I just don't think the Venn diagram has any overlap. What we would want Melbourne to pay versus what Melbourne would be willing to pay aren't in the same postcode.

People throw the word liability around like confetti and it's usually untrue, but on field he is genuinely losing them winnable games. On merit he would not be getting a game at West Coast

Yeah no idea how we are writing off young rucks.
Rucks take longer to develop and generally are injury prone.

It comes with their size and the requirements of the role where they are constantly throwing their body into packs and ruck contests.

If one or both can get right we become soo much more dynamic, love Rhys as he's a loveable punching bag but his time has past him, he cant be expected to pull out elite efforts at his age with his broken down body.

Toby is a monster with his height and skills for someone that size. He's a big and wide unit that can monster much smaller players.

Edwards is a modern day ruck mold, he has Blicavs style moves and skills.

If we can get them on the park and deploy them it'll only be a benefit for Geelong

Sure, but the problem is that TDK would absolutely not come cheap. If Conways comes good, that makes TDK basically a whole lot of capital that we could have spent elsewhere. It's not like a gun mid, where one player's availability has very little effect on others.
