How good has Mannagh been, not perfect but so important for us when the games close the last few weeks.

No coincidence we have looked a lot better with him back. Him and miers add the creativity we desperately need.

That is a very literal interpretation of a written rule, not the way it is applied in practice. Applying it that way would result in dozens more HTBs per game.
We need to take the Geelong goggles off.

Blitz picked up the ball, was tackled, had an arm free and just refused to even attempt a disposal. That is holding the ball 100%.

Maaaaaate. Let it go.
You've harped on this ruck MSD for about 4 years now and we time and time again either pick no one or go nowhere near a tall player.

It's a weird hill you're on with this.

Not really. Stanley is 4 years older and we have less mature rucks on our list now than we did then and blicavs is 4 years older. If anything it's more relevant than it ever has been given Conway can't not injure himself while he's in bed.

He should have tried to hand it off to Bailey it was always going to be htb otherwise.

He had no prior and normally this season the umpire blows the whistle quickly to stop play. For some reason he didn’t which made his inability to dispose of it look like HTB. Should never have got to that stage.
Prior opportunity is only a thing if the ball is dislodged OR if the tackled player is tackled in such a way that it was impossible to dispose of the ball.

Blitz was tackled by one player and had an arm free, and made no attempt to dispose. Prior opportunity in that situation is irrelevant.

Yep, he either needed to give off a tiny handball or just chuck it in the boot forward. With 12 seconds on the clock either of those actions wastes enough time to kill the game.

I am not being critical of blitz, he was massive last night, just pointing out that the umpire got the call absolutely correct.

We're in the last quarter, the game is on the line and it's when you're looking to senior players to step up and take on the game

The 4th quarter may just be the best quarter we've seen from Mullin - not necessarily in term of this output with ball in hand, but because of what he did without it

N Daicos is such a sook. Embarrassing some of the theatrics he displayed.
He’s a generational player and will go down as one of the all time greats but yes, a massive sook and loves to take a dive. Should just get over that crap and play the game because he’s bloody great to watch.

To be fair, Collingwood have a couple of players who sook it up, Maynard and DeGoey in particular.

On DeGoey, was he playing last night? Got absolutely smashed! There was a point where Max Holmes fluffed a kick when DeGoey was on the mark and I was screaming for Max to take him on because DeGoey won’t chase. Downhill skier that guy.

Maynard is way worse than DeGoey. Class A flog that guy.

Mannagh even tried to grab it out of his hands but blitz was too focused on the wrong idea.

Honestly in reflection kind of glad they got a shot as it dulls the umpire shit a bit.

I'll focus on the positives. 6 day turnaround on the back of 3 massive games with Injuries to some incredibly important players, we shouldn't have been close to them.

Granted without Dangerfield we probably aren't that close but really if they are as good as I thought they were they should win by 40 regardless. Many lessons were learnt for our kids and the opposition watching.

In any other year I'd 100% agree. But it's been dead-set a ball up all year (which I hate). Players just stand there, do nothing and a ball up is called.

Until the last few minutes I thought our defence was phenomenal. SDK makes the odd bizarre blue which masked a lot of good stuff he did tonight.
Last night was a microcosm of why j Henry and Kolo are so important.

Our defence held up, and covered well for the loss of both of them plus Stewart.

But, there is no way Mihochek does what he did last night if either j Henry or Kolo are on him. The matchup with cos was not good for him, Henry or Kolo locks him down and there is no way he takes 3 or 4 contested pack marks against either of them. They would have just killed the contest, cos is not that type of defender.

It will be a good learning experience for him, but he is way more valuable as a floater (and ideally as a nightmare wing matchup).

COS is doing outstandingly for a guy with less than 10 games but I agree he's not s brute physically and can get outbodied as can sdk. They need 3rd man in help and didn't get enough of it. If Stewart gets fit and Henry gets back it will help.
The ruck situation is still a massive issue though.
The ruck is going to be an issue, which is why we need to use Stanley sparingly and get him ready for the last 6-8 weeks of the season.

He had played a number of games in a row before last night including travelling, it always felt like we were playing with fire a bit, but it is understandable given our lack of tall options.

We really need blitz, Neale and SDK to be adequate in the ruck for the next 2 months and then unleash Rhys for the stretch run.

This enforced break for Rhys might be a good thing for all concerned.

He reads the play well and gets into the right positions. Steele sidebottom is old and slow yet goes alright.

If his body holds up he will be crucial come finals

Steele has the legspeed of a Clydesdale thesedays but he doesn't go to ground as much as Duncan does (not Duncan's fault this is what happens at the end) and he has a decent tank so they've been able to craft a role that hides his weaknesses. I'm not sure we can do the same with Mitch which is why I doubt he plays finals if we have a smaller injury list.

Look it would have been useful to have Stanley for Briggs next week but in general I agree it's better for him to have a rest for a while. I always said he will play sparingly this year and be set for finals if we get there. I'm just not sure sdk can handle that role. This is also why as frustrating as neale is we have to keep neale as we need him to pinch hit ruck minutes now and we don't have another fwd we can replace neale with who can also ruck (the only way would be if kreuger was on the list).

im calling it now, last night will be the making of Oisen. A masterstroke from Scott and perfect illustration of how he backs his players in even when you think its a lost cause and eventually almost always gets it right. such a great example of the Geelong development machine.

Yeah I would have done 2 metre handball to Bailey then Bailey tries to kick it as far as he can. It was the right umpire call.
