End of 2027 and nothing will happen until court is done (which i would expect will take the better part of 2 years anyway) for obvious reasons. We might ask for dispensation to make him inactive and have an extra list spot to fill (whether the afl would allow that i dont know) but he will be paid by us and we wont sack him until after the process is complete.
Going to be interesting is how they can keep going on with a finger injury for 2 years..
Plus it's wrong how we can keep paying him as his on a "injury" that never happened from playing at our club.

Very true... but if your paying a bloke who can't do his job for you. Should you be paying his full wage? I don't think so...

Don't forget that players often have incentives in their contracts - bonuses for top 10 b&f finishes as an example, or payments from additional service agreements etc

So while wages will be getting paid, I doubt it's what one would be earning if there were available & playing for the full season

Can't we apply to the AFL to promote someone into TB list spot or something?
Anyone know about this?

While there hasn't been anything said publically, behind closed doors I can imagine that the powers to be at both the club and the AFL have been having discussions about what the future steps in this situation could possible look like

Until the first court hearing though, we won't be hearing from the club or the AFL, but following the first hearing I think we'll start to see a greater clarity over the situation - it may be that he's put on the inactive list until such time that the whole proceeding is over and that will allow a spot to be opened

I think we have enough on our hands with Smith, hopefully our next big recruit require less supervison. Big pass on Oliver

If we have another like Bailey Smith come into our club and contribute like what Bailey is currently doing, I'd gladly have him walk into our club with open arms tomorrow. I mean seriously, what has Bailey Smith done that has been so negative towards our club outside alot of external BS noise.... currently I just don't see it. Sure he's a 'different Cat' but I've gotta say I'm really warming to the guy and one things for sure, he 'walks the walk' unlike many others that only do the 'talk'. His hard offensive and defensive gut running is off the charts and is the best in the AFL, that takes real character, determination, hard training and willing mindset and only helps 'our team in spades'.

That may be his business plan at the moment. :winkv1:

To my old school mind, I hate this sort of posturing. TK did it right, and gets the highest respect from me for it. And it goes for every person, play out your contract, especially if you can't be cut or traded because of it.
I fully understand the strategy here, but I can see some unintentional consequences as well. Will there be some bad habits developing here? Does he have the will power/ego to go above and beyond what would be needed to get back into peak shape to play at his potential? (kudos to BS for doing that). Does he have a petulance gene swimming around inside his head like JHF? I'll take the competitiveness, but not the petulance.
Of course all is forgiven if we can get him at non-superstar prices. :grinv1:
Spearman: you won me here (in bold ⬆️) effen hilarious! 🤣

Id hope there is some clause in all contracts, that if you couldn't play due non work/playing reasons that they wouldn't get paid there nominated salary

They will just keep him listed as whatever injury TBA for 2 years.
We have to keep paying him legally because the matter hasn't gone to court yet and we have no grounds not to pay him.

I feel for the club in paying him and not able to use his services.. its like paying for something your not ever going to get..

Put i 100% understand why the AFL and Geelong are in the position in not playing him..

It's not all downside with the situation anyway.

Every game not played is an opportunity to get a game into someone else or try something different.

Don't think the club is too worried about paying the wage of a player who they've decided shouldn't be playing. We're not Richmond, after all, and the club is bigger than the individual.

Give me his Salary then 😆 🤣 😂 😹 I'll be happy to take it for nothing 😆

yep, really hope we dont renew our interest. james worpel for free and his contract be much more smarter decision. and to be honest at this stage worpel is probably the better player.
I get why many don’t want Oliver, but you chop his fingers off and he’s still better than Worpel.

Dangers last game for the Crows, a final and he was magnificent! (Still going ok too 😀)

I don’t know but I expect he can play. Nothing to stop him legally. But the club has decided he can’t. So pay him.

Not that I want to get too far into supression order matters but the Jack De Belin case is an obvious one here. Not that I'm saying it will drag on for as many years as that did or that he will be acquitted the same way. But De Belin was stood down on full pay the whole time and is now back playing. This is one of many examples of why the club wouldnt move to rip up the contract now (and the AFLPA wouldnt allow this anyway) in case there isnt a guilty verdict-the last thing it wants is being sued.
As other posters have pointed out the AFL would likely be telling us quietly not to play him. But at the same time working with the PA so he gets his base contract wage. He still would be getting less than his full earnings due to not triggering B and F clauses etc.
The only possible change at the edges would be if the club asks the AFL to let us make him inactive on full pay and allow us to have an extra SSP/MSD spot but as cats_09 points out it wouldnt be until after the initial court hearings that we would look at that.
