For sure. Let's be serious look Voss resume before Carlton. He pretty much walked into top 4-8 side with Carlton. I'm at the point where I don't care who we sack I just want them to get it right.

We need to keep our ears close to the ground, if someone Graeme Wright and Brian Cook rate becomes available then we make the change. If not then we stick with Voss. Simple as that. Voss is supposed to be the one driving the direction of list management and while the better sides have embraced leg speed and kicking skills we have done nothing for 3 years. Tactically we are terrible. Team selection in finals when we were up was terrible, he literally dropped the quick and better kicks for slower players, because big bodies. I like Voss, I think as a coach he has some good qualities but I think we all know we have nothing special here and the opportunity to move on, should that come up, we have to take it. He's not a good coach. He's not terrible, but he's not that great.

On the flip side we are probably last on the list of clubs that sort after, desirable coaches will be recommended to go to by their managers. Because of our history. We set coaches up to fail, our recruitment department has been poor for 30 years. Our football department, we haven't had really good assistants since 2000. So if you were managing a talented coach, you aren't telling them to go to Carlton. So there is that to deal with.

So we are in a really tentative and tricky place with our coach.

If we are going to move on, we need to have the assistants and the new coach all lined up before pulling the trigger and making the move. I think we need to be looking but we can't just make a change for the sake of it like we have in the past.
We all want to get our hands on some good assistants but I am not sure. We are high on the list for anyone good. We get the drags and we deserve to get the dregs because for 25 years we have been setting blokes up to fail.

If we are not actively looking for a new head and new assistants and testing the waters to see what is out there then we are idiots. I don't think we are run by idiots. I think Cook and particularly Wright will be keen to improve the coaching department.

Bare minimum we have a red hot crack at a senior assistant. Adam Simpson or John Longmire come to mind. What is Mark Williams up to?

I thought before Voss was appointed that we had already decided our previous assistants were no good and had sacked all but Luke Power. I would also imagine that the incoming coach would have a very big hand in selecting his assistants.

So maybe the starting base was low but surely the ball was in his court to develop it by appointing, adding and removing his assistants as he wishes. He's now had 3 off seasons to do this but still we apportion a lot of the blame for our form on assistants.

Voss is no rookie coach. Ample time to pick his team to make him successful. Poor assistants, he has clearly accepted

Thats not true. The covid clause allows clubs to give coaches 6 month only payout, regardless of the length of contract...

Theres no barrier or hindrance to moving him on

Like him or loath him.. We haven’t been successful since Elliott (his sole focus was winning).

Yes, you could say. Elliott brought players in with brown paper bags, but so did every other club that wasn’t broke…

Bar JSOS, none of our players play for the jumper, they play for the paycheque. This is the culture we’ve created and let fester…

Collingwood respect their history and revel in their rivalry’s and play fiercely for the jumper.

Of that I am jealous of them.

I’m starting to question this Soapy.

We do have 6-10 talented players when we play average teams like Geelong and below average teams. But against good teams the same 6-10 players can look bog ordinary.

Personally I think we just don’t have enough players that can run and create opportunities like Adelaide showed.

Gee Average teams like Geelong pretty sure those comments need reviewed.
Geelong has been almost the benchmark club of the Afl in the last 20 years, they will there again this year at the business end of the year.
If l am not mistaken Geelong beat Adelaide over there recently?

We beat cats but cats beat crows in Adelaide….

it’s hard to know what causes this but having seen some vision on media our defenders were caught out in no man’s land on a few occasions.

Also, I assume we had no answers to crows run/spread type players.

Makes you wonder how the cats (also a slowish side) were able to negate the crows run?

As a team, Did we even watch/analyse the cats v crows game?

Somehow I don’t think we do enough on oppo analysis.

It's going to take a massive shift and strong leadership.

Issue for us is since 2000 we have had SC scandal and it affected us badly and we then spent years just trying to survive. We were in massive financial trouble and we have worked our way out of it and are now very strong off field which is great.

NOW we need to get the on field (Football department) right and to improve the standards. It's not a quick fix or a messiah deal. That is not the system anymore and we have struggled with that. We need to get back to a place where medicority is NOT accepted. To do this it needs to be driven from the top and we need the best people to do achieve this.

Personally, I believe MLG got us back financially and Sayers/Cook have improved things and created stability. What needs to happen now is the New President and Wright need a clear football focus to take us back to the top and it will take some very hard decisions and a clear direction. This needs to be across Coaching, List Mgt, Development and Recruiting. It's NOT one issue. Unfortunately it will still take some time as it's 25 years of mediocrity and you don't change that overnight even when you want to

Charlie being the A grade example of this.
Other than an appetite for kicking goals has virtually zero intent to impact the game and work / provide effort.
Some of his intent to do the team things on the weekend were disgraceful and need to be called out. I’d love for a David King to highlight this in the media. He just gave up on numerous occasions.
Has little intent to chase, tackle, create space, work for his team mates.
When the mercurial / flashy stuff isn’t on the agenda he’s just not interested
If I were to provide some defence it maybe that this body may limit his capacity / want to be involved in these aspects of the game, though it doesn’t appear to have the same impact when attempting the attacking aspects of the game.
I’ve used Charlie as the example, but he has a number of teammates who are the same.
McGovern, Motlop, Saad, Young, E Hollands, Weitering at times. Just to name a few.
That Voss hasn’t been able to instill an acceptable consistent level of effort and standards within this group is the biggest knock I have on him as a coach.
Good coaches set these standards and are uncompromising in ensuring they are maintained.
Voss has to forget about the woke cliche group speech nonsense and put his big boy pants on.
Love for him to spend some time in the Melbourne Storm environment with Craig Bellamy.

However I also believe if Vossy tried anything like a Craig Bellamy style coaching (actually rugby league style coaching in general) he’d get sacked very quickly.

lf you go interstate & don't turn up mentally very hard to turn that around.
l also don't see Geelong as slow, Smith & Holmes in the middle & probably 2-3 geninue quality small forwards.

JMO but I always feel like Voss is trying to be something he isn't. He tries to be a modern day touchy feely coach when it isn't his nature.

It's almost like after being sacked before he is defensive and tries to keep the players on side. I wish he would be tougher and set standards and expectations (his nature) and have great tactical coaches supporting him

Geelong definitely didnt punish our skill errors, they were terrible by foot.

Adelaide were running at circa 75% by foot at 3qtr time and we were low 50s.

Just my take

He needs to be able to enforce consequences if hes going to be hardline Voss.

Kids thesedays will be - "ok drop me for Lemmey", you'll lose by more, be gone by end of year and i'll get an extension".
