The Geelong region is stronger than the states of WA and SA.. and we saw the AFL bring second teams into those states to prevent the Eagles and Crows from being too strong. Remember when people complained about the Eagles being like a State of Origin team?? Well we're now seeing it with the Cats.. who are basically an Origin team of Geelong!

Bringing in another team to be based in the Geelong region would benefit the City of Greater Geelong in many ways.. with the team based at Kardinia Park, the new team would play 10 home games there a year, plus two derbies against the Cats. So with 22 games per year at Kardinia Park.. imagine how much the economy would benefit in the City of Greater Geelong!!

Another thing.. anyone who has lived in Geelong will tell you how everyone there either loves or hates the Cats, with no middle ground.. including those who have no interest in Australian Football, because of how much the media glaze the Cats! Especially the Geelong Advertiser which is a Geelong Cats newsletter. So the support for the new team would be there for sure.

Kardinia Park is a clean stadium.. meaning the new team will get to pocket all the gate takings, similar to the Cats. Even if crowds are sub 20k.. the new team will still make money regardless. So the AFL won't have to worry about the new team running at a loss.

Team 20 being in Geelong would be a win for everyone.. sure the Cats would oppose it to begin with, but they would grow to appreciate the competition.. similar to what we've seen with the Eagles and Dockers in WA. Oh and it would grow the game in Geelong.. which has one of the fast growing populations in Australia! What are your thoughts??

A club representing either Hunter Valley, Riverina or Far North Queensland would take away some of that regional advantage we have, and also grow the game.

I think it has legs as an idea. Would be great for COGG, you could call the team the FALCONS? or "Grammar" for short. Chuck in a few St. Joey's old boys and the team would be immediately a powerhouse.

Amazing thread.
You’ve presented a really good case on the surface but in reality the reason you created this thread is to stop our success.

You did beat us in all of 2017,19,20. The hatred surely dies down soon?

Our real rivalry are the hawks. You played them yesterday. You could create a thread about the frees they get and how they haven’t lost a FK count all year.

People complain about us winning one free kick count than argue about decisions that were right anyway.

Hawk Frees this year
23-10 tigers
24-11 eagles
24-15 cats
21-12 port
17-16 GWS
29-24 blues
23-17 bombers
23-21 swans
🤨

Look, it's never gonna happen, but done right it could be one of the bigger derbies in Australia.

Kind of like the Australian equivalent to the Dundee derby.

That's just it...which is why I find the obsession about adding teams to heartland areas so strange.
Yep, and in practice Geelong would do whatever it takes to make sure the AFL Hunter Mariners equivalent wouldn't be able to play any home games at Kardinia Park, in the same way the Hunter Mariners weren't allowed to use the Newcastle Knights' home ground.

A second team in Tassie would make more sense than a second in Geelong.

Exactly. What's Geelong's equivalent to Topper Stadium? The Shell oval in Corio?

Fantastic Idea.
Utilize an under used Multi million dollar white elephant of a stadium with a second team.
For more than 9 games a year.
