What are your thoughts on the go home factor?

Yes I understand that Tassie is only a short flight to the mainland but lets be honest young people look to leave the state rather than move to the state.

Would a young champion vic kid be happy to play and live in Tas when he could move back to Melbourne when his contract is up and play on the MCG and live the lifestyle available.

This could be an issue retaining players and attracting players.
Almost everyone i know that left the state it was for work opportunities. Not something footballers will have to worry about. We will no doubt lose some but i don't think it will be anywhere near the issue some are making it out to be.

That’s the main reason why they leave. The other reason would be advanced study, so it’s not really about life style or night life, it’s more about opportunity.

Another factor, to retain players is the lack of traffic. 15km away is about 10-15 minutes away. 15km elsewhere is a good half hour if your lucky!

Sanders and McKercher mentioned in this article.
I reckon we'd have real shot at getting Sanders but McKercher is a different story. Very committed to Kangaroos and living in Melbourne.

I'm Tasmanian and a Kangaroos fan.

We've now hired Scott Clayton and I think it's a horrible decision for Tas.

Scott Clayton was once considered the best recruiter in the country (we’re talking 15+ year ago admittedly).

His time at the Roos has involved some pretty poor early picks having favoured small midfielders, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that was at the direction of the coaches or other people who outrank him.

He did well recruiting for the Dogs and Suns, so the issue could also be talent development at the Roos, rather than talent ID.

Either way, he’s got history with an expansion team, and decades of experience. I don’t mind it

Clayton will be part of the team, but Hine will call the shots.

With Hine's appointment, it's also leading me to believe that Nathan Buckley will be big in the running for the Tasmanian coaching job.

He may have learned, all good, and yes he will be part of a good team as I rate Hine, but he definitely didn't do well at the Suns.

In fact it was an unmitigated disaster. Roos not much better but who's to blame is the real question I guess.

I mean Harry Sheezel is a pretty good player, I think North have picked a lot of great young players recently.
A lot more to a football team than just picking the talent.

Picking Sheezel was hardly difficult, nor were North's other early picks.

Lets see how he goes for Tas!

Seth Campbell Sam Banks and Rhyann Mansell would be 3 Tasmanian players they will be tracking closely
Campbell has made great strides this season

Just a thought, what if Chad Warner is planning on taking a mega deal from us instead of going back to WA? He couldn't could he? He'll be out of contract just in time.

Banks and Mansell would definitely be a chance. Campbell had a pretty rough upbringing in Tassie and is apparently pretty happy to stay away.

I think Nank is a pretty strong chance to sign in a similar situation to what GWS did with Dean Brogan.

I think the biggest challenge of our initial list build is going to be getting fair value for the picks the AFL is forcing us to trade. Getting enough contracted players worthy of picks 5, 7, 9 and 13 won't be easy. Clubs will be trying to offload their crap for a good deal.

I don't think the $1.2m signing bonus fund is anywhere near enough either. Most of that could be gone signing one star player.
