It's a pretty good standard, indeed Dempsey was plucked from the APS system.
Sounds like King could be a goer then
It’s a good standard… I played APS footy myself. How good is APS ? What was Dempsey playing when we drafted him...
JackG being on a Coates League Club list gives one confidence that there may be something there. If he is a KPD ..im sure we will be watching his progress. Steven Kings son sounds different to him…if he is described .as a hard running player with a good tank.
Xavier College
FATHER-SONS AND NGAs
Saxena is part of Collingwood’s NGA, while Jack Graham – the son of AFL Cat turned NFL punter Ben – is a key defender returning from injury who will figure for Xavier throughout the season. Graham is in the Oakleigh Chargers squad but is yet to feature in 2025 at the time of writing.
Wesley College
FATHER-SONS AND NGAs
The son of former Geelong captain and St Kilda player Steven King, Oscar, will feature for Wesley this season despite only being in year 10. He’s a hard-running player with a really good tank and is developing well. Wesley will also boast Sam Anderson, who is the son of ex-Kangaroo and Docker Stuart, as well as Judd Burgiel. While not a father-son, Burgiel is the brother of Coby, who was drafted to West Coast in 2022.

to give you an idea, Tom Hawkins debuted for Melbourne grammar in year 10 and kicked 4 goals on debut at CHF.
He should be looking at TAC state at this rate
APS has been an elite standard for a long time mostly due to APS schools giving out sporting scholarships than anything else.Tom was a while ago but I get your point. The impression that I get its only become more professional with big name ex AFL coaches. I dont think anyone get selected for the Champs without playing Coates League so lets hope that happens

And not true with Coates. APS players usually don’t play coates league as it clashes with APS commitments. They train with the state squads and are still eligible for selection. Hawk was another example of this and won the lark medal., judd prior to him was a melb grammar kid.
Jack watts was from Brighton grammar and didn’t play much TAC cup.
But sounds like good signs for king. Haven’t heard anything about him prior to this discussion
Oscar King spent time in the Suns academy so you know he's legit.Sounds like King could be a goer then
Ben Graham was far from a gun junior and became a very good footballer. If his son is also a late developer he might be a possibility. How good is APS ? What was Dempsey playing when we drafted him...

APS is buried in elite talents on private school scholarships.APS is a good standard
Wesley is quite poor at the moment so a year 10 playing may not indicate too much
Dempsey didnt play many games for Carey
