We are not a good side yet but we sure as hell are competitive and if you don’t bring your best stuff, we might even beat you.

This is why you pick your best team each week, not because 4 points are super important to a team that will likely miss finals, but because it breeds winning culture.

We have some serious young players on our list, and instead of them having token games and honourably loses, they are learning what it takes to win games of football.

Not to mention the message it sends to perspective recruits, that Essendon is coming and to get on board.

• Merrett kept quietish
• no goals from Wright or Langford
• missing Ridley, Draper, Parish, Bryan, Jones, Gresham, Cox
• old man in the ruck
• Caldwell rusty as ****
• 6 players in the team who debuted in the last 2 years

…and we beat last years runners-up.

Quite a bit to be positive about in that performance despite the usual injury sadness and an inability to maintain the level that got us into a good position.

We're probably not ready for the tactical stuff. But when it got to 15 points my thoughts were that we don't have to score now, but we need to score next. Clearly we don't subscribe to those theories. Old mate Jennings was good on that stuff and good teams do it. It might be a bit nuanced for where we are right now. (Being in the 8 is a sick joke btw!)

Another win but another hard second half watch.

Ant at least you and I are old enough to remember when EFC had comfortable easy victories. For our poor fellow Bombers under 30 they're like unicorns, the stuff of myth and legend spoken of by the elders of the tribe.
Still any win against that lot is to be savoured, almost as good ad beating Carlton and Hawks.
