If, and it’s a massive if, Gibcus can get back to play again, imagine Balta, Gibcus and Trainor in the back half?
Already seen enough of Faull, Armstrong and sims to suggest they won’t be busts.
Lalor is a jet and will only get better.
We have smashed last year’s draft out of the park.
And we have even seen Hotton yet, who could be the best of all of them.
Alger has shown form. Smillie we will wait and see.
It’s good to be a tiger tonight.
Enjoy it now.

He was a weird one. He looked to be in good spots and made good decisions, but he was poor in the ruck and we suffered whenever he moved on ball.

I’d play him next week, but I thought we should have subbed him at 3/4 time. We seemed too tall forward of the ball.
I thought he was great in the ruck.
You might not have gotten that on tv though.
Presuming you watched on tv and not a criticism.

Loved Sims game. Pump games into him. McAuliffe seemed to be running with Reid and did ok especially early. I thought he seemed to give away a few free kicks for in the back but he only had 2 free kicks against. 6 tackles. Was good in the clinches late when we had some very tired bodies.
Just have to keep giving him midfield time he will e a jet

I think we could find room for Jim Jess, Mark Lee, Maurice Rioli, Michael Roach, and Dale Weightman!
In the mid '80's, Roach would get injured in the middle of the year, leading the goalkicking with 50 odd goals, and we would fall in a screaming heap.

Jess and Lee were probably past it by 1985. Nothing like the players they were.

If you think not winning a game this sEason is hyperbole…. how many games did you expect us to win this season?

A - zero
B - 3-5
C -6 - 10
D- stacks….Top 8/4
B - 3-5.

Anything outside this will be a surprise. And that's fine as long as there's gradual across the board improvement.

I honestly think that those early '80's trade disasters with Collingwood were worse than getting these two. Much, much worse.

That’s fair.

Nonetheless, would prefer we didn’t do the Hopper/Taranto trade; for me, it’s indelibly associated with our latest slide into obscurity.

Tresize in for Ralphsmith
Alger in for Green
Bauer in for Faull
Don't mind those changes. Ralphsmith and Green are out of form. I'd leave Faull in for now.

Is Short's injury likely to be more than just this game?

Remarkably similar to now, in some respects, the form of premiership players falling off a cliff

Where is the 1 to 2 option?

I thought he got under the ball a few times when going for marks.

Bauer was doing that too when he was in the side. Their timing's off.

Fair comment.
I think Faull does the same.
They are babies.
What nobody can teach is a contested mark in a pack and both have done it.

To be fair I just remembered North's key defenders are pretty garbage, so we probably benefit from keeping Faull in the side next week, as opposed to Bauer who I see as more of a third tall.

Pretty sure Short might just be a one weeker, but I'd prefer we stuck with the kids. Unlikely that happens though

Except the replacements back then didn't show anywhere near the promise of some of these youngsters. Back then we seemed to recruit (or draft when it came in) plodders or rakes. The only trade that looked a great idea at the time was Phillip Walsh because he looked like he could be anything. Then he came over and proved that right by becoming nothing. Just like all the others for such a long time.

Not a criticism. Just an observation. As you say, they're babies.

They are showing plenty for year 1 key position players.

I just want to give some love to Jonty Faull.

Watching the replay now and gee he competes hard, taps the ball to players advantage, and is very clean at ground level too.

Gets an unfair wrap on here.
Key backs always do
People tend to blame them whenever a goal is kicked on them when it just comes with the territory of the position

Even the best cough goals up

Look I want every Richmond player to make it… I want them all to be up vying for all Australians and Brownlows...

But we just can’t keep accepting Hugo’s efforts.. or lack of.

He has no intensity… avoids physical contact as much as possible… fumbles.. is pushed off the ball and coughs it up so easy.. lets not even mention his ‘tackling’

Can’t be rewarded with a game next week if there is anything resembling selection integrity.

Those bagging Miller, what did he actually do, aside from getting caught once holding the ball, to get dropped?
Spot on with this. Is second in the comp for defensive one on one wins for a reason.

Don’t reckon he lost a contest to Waterman at all today. Anytime Waterman took a mark, it was on someone else.

For a big guy he has great kicking skills. It’s not often you see a true full back kick out.

Wins his 1v1 contests. Unfortunately when goals a scored by opposition, the key defender is the first blamed.

I reckon he’s actually having a really good year, and for whatever reason he unfairly cops a lot of flack on here.
