Cole and Duggan just annoy me the fact they've been around for over 7 years and still look so panicky when the ball goes near them.

Rushed kicks and fumbles.

Like most teams 7+ year players are solid reliable types now
Duggan cost us the game on the weekend.

1 contested possession, 13 uncontested. Managed to have 7 clangers/turnovers despite the uncontested nature of his disposals. Just no composure.

He has gone backwards sadly, but given he's the Captain, he's unlikely to be dropped.

That's like blaming Bradd Dalziell for not being Peter Matera.
No. It's just an example of what we used to have and why we are 9 games into a season and still winless.

9 games and no wins. And here we are arguing about the value of a small defender and some of you plebs are defending him.

Whats worse is the coach dropped cole and brought him back after 1 game only to have him invisible again and do nothing about it.

Ditto Kelly.

I'd try Duggan as a 100% Tagger. Just tell him his job is to just stop the best mid. Prob is they'll run him forward and he'll scrag and give frees away

Maybe chuck Duggo fwd pocket and hope he snags a goal or 2 and put some fwd pressure on

I dunno but I agree they wont drop him

So far we’re throwing millions of dollars at Brandon Starcevich (who’s one bump on the head away from being medically retired), Zach Reid and Ned Moyle.
Getting Zach Reid and Moyle at the end of this year would be a phenomenal result for the club. We’ve got the rest of the year to see if Reid’s body holds up but if it does that’s two ten year players in the perfect age bracket in two of our three most pressing positional needs. Happy to pay overs in contract terms for both.

Starcevich’s concussion issues coupled with what should be Oscar’s departure should put a line through him, the big FA year is going to be 2027 and will be crucial. In the next couple of years I’d hope we’re pursuing the following:

2025: Zach Reid, Ned Moyle, Alex Davies

2026: Dan Curtin, Darcy Cameron, Connor O’Sullivan, Jedd Busslinger, Darcy Jones

2027: Warner x2, Rivers

Yeah they dropped Cole and TK but bring them straight back but these kids get the opposite, 1 AFL game (or sub) then rot in WAFL.

Play Gross, Hall, Allan, JWilliams the rest of the year and give Shanahan and another 1 or 2 guys a taste

No.

"Run of the mill small defender"

In the past we've had small defenders that actually play and have impact.

Like
Adam Selwood.
Beau waters
Wirrpanda
David hart.

These are run of the mill small defenders
Talks about run of the mill defenders and names 3 All Australians.

The bolded were not run of the mill. They were fantastic players.

Adam Selwood was more run of the mill when he moved from the midfield to the backline. He was just too slow.
I disagree. Hart was a gun. The rest had big flaws. Still better than Duggo and Coley, though.

In a perfect world, he gets dropped. If Oscar was also out, who is captain?

We don't have anyone. I was initially, "give it to Baker", but I don't want that miss-hit midget mother f'er being captain. Harley needs to get past tags and niggles, and we have to see if he commits. It probably leaves Waterman.

And what would you be happy to pay in terms of a trade? Neither would come cheap and Moyle signed a long-term contract last year.

I'm not sure how old you are, but Wirra and Waters were phenomenal players. The knock on Waters is that he destroyed his body and only played 120 games.

If we had those two in our team we'd be a much much better team for it.

Zach Reid is apparently OOC. This surprised me. I'm sure he's in negotiations right now. Worth a crack, but you wouldn't trade for him if he were in contract.

If Harley demanded to go back to Melbourne (i'm hoping he doesn't as i see year 3 as a massive breakout for him), we'd take Essendon's first pick (currently pick 8), Melbourne's first pick (which they have - currently pick 5) and Zac Reid as the foundation for a trade.

If have 1, 2, 5, 8, 13 (Hawks R1), then we can start talking about that Hawks pick for Moyle.

1, 2, 5, 8, Zac Reid, Ned Moyle, with Harley and pick 13 out, starts looking like something palatable. Again. I'd rather keep Harley.

Loved Beau Waters but still got nervous when he had the ball

He was an iffy kick.

Better just roosting it outta there.

Wirra was smooth and attacking

Because I'm talking about what we used to have and now tolerate.
They used to be run of the mill defenders for us.

Heck, Brett Jones on a bad day was even better than cole

Brett Jones probably a good comparison. Won a flag as a youngster in a good side. He was serviceable for us after but didn't reach great heights.

I actually felt comfortable when he got the ball. Seemed to use it well

Old enough to see Hart's whole career, including his South Fremantle days. Wirra had no accountability. He ran it out of defence like Hart, but had limited accountability. Waters turned it over too much. They'd be way better that Duggo and Coley, but wouldn't move the dial. Gov and Barrass couldn't move the dial.

A big call to move away from a team that perennially doesn't play/win finals?
There's this school of thought at Essendon that they're a pay cheque away from clicking and rolling on to win the flag. It's super delusional, but they've been in that spot for a decade. Those fellows really think they're going to do something. Zach might be thinking this, too.

Fair chance they win 1 of the next 6 and those dreams are crushed.

Raise the floor type player are Ward & Flanders.
Because we have so many underperforming senior players, these types would raise the floor for a couple of years until we get games into our better kids and then become the midfield mix going forward.
With the actual lack of talent except 22 and under players we need a couple of these types.
I would draft 2 best mids with our draft capital and use our 2nd pick on Ward and he will only improve with more midfield time, 22 and 50 games.
Flanders offer something attractive to GC as they have a heap of midfielders and Academy players this year coming in the 1st round and he could be part of our midfield for the next 6+ years and would be an upgrade on Kelly.
They need points we need good players, cheapest buy is a ready made player imo.
This is about the 10th time I've seen you mentioning Ward. What makes you think he is gettable? He's a top 10 pick who is establishing himself in finals bound team. I don't see any reason why he would come to the Eagles. If he did want to leave the hawks for some reason, they'd be 9 other Vic based clubs in the hunt for him. We'd probably have to give up a top 10 pick for him.
Flanders is 23 and contracted to end of 27. No way GC sell him for points. He would require a top 5 - 10 pick also.

Both great players but neither would be cheap. Not sure why you think they would be.

I’ve posted it before but Moyle I’d look at as part of a bigger trade with GCS that gets them the points they need and upgrade our pick.

OUT: Hawks 1R, 2R, 3R, WCE 2R
IN: Port 1R, Ned Moyle, Alex Davies

Could also look exchanging some of the above for our F2 and/or Liam Ryan if the reports are correct.

Zach Reid is OOC and we’re almost certainly going to have pick 1 in the PSD. Hopefully Clarke grows some balls and offers Bailey Williams and our F3 if we can get ZReid to agree to terms to play with his brother.

Why would Oscar Allen sit out the year? The average football career is a little over 10 years, he's already lost one whole year, plus a half year, and people think he'll want to sit out another?
