Autopsy Cats lose to GWS by 4 points

Worst loss in a long time.
I don’t get this because we had 4 of our best 6 defenders out against a team that’s had the wood over us for a long time. We were carrying so many garbage players like Clark and Mullin so played above expectations IMO.

I was shitty in the match thread but been far more positive in this one.

I think Scott slamming his fist into the woodwork sums this one up for me - so frustrating to not get over the line with so many chances.
Set shot kicking was putrid throughout the game , the late misses hurt but so did the many chances we blew in the first half.
Even though Bews was good I thought losing Lawson might be a bridge too far for our severely depleted defence.
SDK was laughable with his positioning and COS battled hard but you have to feel for a 19yo trying to defend Hogan.
Clark has talent but he is 2 years off having an AFL body , we need to work out what to do with him.
Do we give Clohesy a few games as a starter or maybe give Stevens a shot as an inside mid?

We had incredible poise in our glory years but that is lacking at the moment which is understandable with our team make up.
Disappointing to be 5/4 but our percentage is reasonable , aim to up the winning ration in the second half of the season and get back to full strength.
Timing is going to be vital come September , let's hope we have a healthy list on the park by then.

I consider it the worst loss because despite having no defenders we could and should have won. We lost it off our own boots.

Mullin was OK, IMHO. Did his job, didn't have a goal kicked on him and made some important stops. 100% disposal efficiency off 8 possessions, 6 under pressure. I'll take that for a guy who should be in the VFL learning to be a wingman. Clark just too small, IMHO.

I like this(We had incredible poise in our glory years)you could see remnants of that in Bews's effort yesterday.

I'm hearing there will be announcement this week.

He was just waiting to see whether he'd be the new leader of the Catholic Church first. Now that the Pope has been selected, he can focus his attention on footy.
The Conclave didn't give him enough votes. Petracca and Liberatore both had more.

I didn't watch the game super closely so maybe I got the wrong impression but I thought Mullin was good.

He had a couple of key defensive interventions, ran hard to provide an option out of defence often without reward and used the ball well when he got it.

Are people just looking at 8 touches and deciding he must've been shit based on that?

Anyone focusing on Mullin as part of the problem yesterday is a bit misguided IMO. There's a few in front of him.

Ollie Henry - has certainly taken a big step back this season. Can't really pin point the problem. Maybe needs to start with doing the basics right because each week he burns team mates in better positions and won't dish it off.

Miers - Was in pretty good touch before the concussion but clearly he was jumping at shadows and seemed very timid yesterday. has a few credits in the bank but some of his efforts yesterday were alarming.

Clark - Really want to be patient and wait for him to step up but even at this early stage I'm seriously concerned that we might have got that pick wrong. He looks a long way off and if not for us copping a few injuries, I'm not sure he would've played as many games this year. If Bruhn had been available I don't think he would have played a game.

O'Connor - Coming off a good game last week but has otherwise been very average this season. Some of his errors were costly yesterday - at least 2 of them resulted directly in GWS goals. The dropped mark at half forward and then GWS running it down the other end for a goal was putrid for an AFL player.

Lot's of focus so far on the negatives to come out of yesterday's game but I think there were plenty of positives.

Smith - a genuine top end star of the competition. I've been pleasantly surprised by what he's delivered. Would win our B&F and be AA if the season ended now.

Blicavs - gutsy performance in the ruck yesterday and if not for hitting the post late, he could've been the difference on the day.

Dempsey - quickly going from being an ok player to a very good one and is now getting some recognition from the media and football commentators. Has a very high ceiling if he keeps going at this rate. Our mate Kingy has him in the current AA side on a wing.

Zuthrie - Gets plenty of plaudits from Cats fans but some of his one on one work and his ability to halve a contest are surely ranked as elite across the comp.

Special mention to Chris Scott - by his own admission he got a few things wrong yesterday. The main one he mentioned was not having Bailey Smith in the middle from the start - and having Cameron in the middle instead. He owned it and he agreed that by not getting a few positional things right, it did contribute to GWS racing out of the blocks. Didn't once deflect to the players or to the coaching staff in the box.

I want bews to stay when humphries comes back. He still has it.

Hopefully we're good enough and have enough availability that we can heavily manage him through the year so Humphries, Mullin and COS get plenty more experience then see where we're at come finals. But I thought he looked as good as he has for a long time yesterday.

They might be.

I thought Mullin was fine yesterday.

No not yet. probably panicking, they have 68k members, GA is limited with opposing Clubs.
We have a chance through sponsor, last minute, but not ideal as paid for airfares and accom.
I went to SCG game a few years back
No issues buying GA
Swans rarely sell out
Only when it's like two top 4 teams

Neale isn't competitive. He got pushed aside so easily in a back pocket ruck contest by Riccardi that resulted in a goal. The bloke is a man mountain and Riccardi just brushed him aside. Pair that with him going one-handed at a ground ball the week prior. He needs to toughen up tenfold.
I agree with u 99% but it's kinda funny we/you... just described Tom Hawkins' first 3-4 years...
Tommy surprised me... hoping Shannon does the same... as in surprise me.
Only difference is Tommy was a gun CHF/FF a consensus No. 1 draft pick who knew his craft... whilst Shannon was an athletic ruck that played forward.
On a side note.
We do need to send a few blokes to that same "toughen up school".
OH & SDK might as well car pool, to save a few bucks lol.

That's actually not a bad idea.

I think Mullin forward might be a few years down the track. Not quite flexible enough yet. He's a sort of see ball get ball straight down the track player. Good kick but a bit lost around stoppage and hand passing. Can't knock the Irish rules out of him.

Didi will offer a discount

Fair assessment. I was pleasantly surprised that he got a couple of clearances against Daicos- so there is definitely potential.

Guys hear me out we drop O.Henry and move Mullin forward, don't know what his goal sense is like but but sure could use his speed pretty sure O.Henry can't touch his toes. Bews understands the game better as a defender.

He has serious pace.

It would be at least worth trying for a quarter here or there to see if he can replace the Gary Rohan role of pressuring their defenders. We still miss that a little bit.

Plays like a cream puff. Hawkins was similar early on.
Has a good turn of speed which he could utilise more in general play.
Also, needs to get around the ‘butter fingers’ stuff where he is dropping sitters high and low.
A bit to work on…

Can't blame him if he was a little hesitant at times considering the knock he received, still I'd take twenty three disposals, a goal and two assists any day of the week.

Thought he was the least of our problems, if quite a few others contributed half as much as he did yesterday we get the four points.

I still think there is a player in there somewhere

Just my thoughts.
Left field selection for next week.
The Number 2 returns.
The Polk
Nice first game in his home town would be good for the young fella.
Give Oh Henry a run in the Magoos. About time he earns his spot IMO.
At least the Polk will run chase and tackle.
