That's fine

I'll clarify my point so you can fully understand my perspective

I would be happy if the club traded a late first rounder OR a future first for Bergman

I would be unhappy if the club traded a pick 1-10 for Bergman (subject to change depending on draft pool)

I think Bergman can be a best 22 midfielder in a premiership-contending team going forward - more so than other HB-mid players such as Coffield/Jones etc. Even if he doesn't make it, I think he can be one of the competition's best medium defenders to replace Webster - so its a high floor. IMO that's the difference between this and other hopeful mids we've acquired in the past - I think Bergman can be locked in the best 22 even if he doesn't make it as a mid

I do not think he is Patrick Dangerfield reincarnated. It was merely the first name to come to mind when I saw a clip of Bergman bursting out of a stoppage at the weekend

Now please get off my case :)
But no one lost the plot more than you last year with the club about HBFs hoping they can be mids

Respectfully, if the club is relying on Birdman to fix our midfield woes then we are in a far worse position than most would admit. Our only hope is to draft a gun mid either hope one is available at our pick or trade up.. we should have done it last year or the year before.
Nobody is saying anything of the sort.

No, our only hope is not to draft, we could trade.

I just want to talk about Harley Reid. I watched that game on the weekend and he clearly looks like he is struggling. Absolutely shocked if he was still at the Eagles next year. He looks unfit, gassed all the time, wants to fight and scrap, reacts to the crowd. Playing on the wing, where he should be an inside mid.

With the talent he has and that the eagles are really keen to keep him I’m wondering if they just let him do what ever he wants, within reason, scared to upset him in case he cracks it and decides to go home.

He just looks as though he wants out. Pretty clear he would not choose us, more likely Geelong with the country town vibe. But I would certainly be speaking to his manager. Now I know there are other coaches that are strong characters but to my mind RTB certainly would get him playing the way we know he can.

Clubs been pretty good at talent ID the last 4/5 years. If they rate Bergmans potential I’ll back them in.

Harley Reid convo has to be a long game. West Coast hold the whip here and given his level of talent I suspect they hold him for another year in the hope to turn him around.
If we’re not in the race to land him now, we won’t be in it in 12 months time

Something that popped up on my feed the other day, Jevan Phillipou …

“A medium midfielder, Jevan Phillipou is capable of winning contested ball both in the air and at ground level and is a skllful kick on both feet.
He has a high workrate, allowing him to get from contest-to-contest, as well as an elite step to get him through congestion.
Phillipou made a promising start to 2025, averaging 20 disposals, five clearances and kicking three goals across his first five matches for the Eagles.
However, he broke his arm in mid-April and will be sidelined for an indefinite period.
He is the younger brother of third-year St Kilda rising star Mattaes, who was a No.10 draft pick in 2022.”

Don’t know what his draft value would be, but buy one, get one forever.

Bit of an all round athlete too

What a haul we have already in May:

Tom De Koning, Harley Reid, Miles 'Dangerfield' Birdman, Leek Aleer, Jack Silvagni, Worpel and Jevan Phillipou

Lock us in for the 2026 flag

West Coast are doing a worse job of rebuilding than we did. At least we took the early picks we just butchered them, they keep trading them away. Their rebuild will be longer than North’s IMO.

If they go through the without a win the afl will give them a priority pick

You know what shits me, the press are going on about West Coast receiving a priority pick because they are so rubbish at the moment. However, people tend to forget that they won their 4th premiership in 2018 (being only 7 years ago). We haven't won a premiership since before the moon landing--how about we get a priority pick?

I've read that Stanley Kubrick filmed our premiership win in a warehouse on Horscroft Place.

Pretty sure I read somewhere that they’re putting together a request for an assistance plan from the AFL.

Do feel a little sorry for Mini though. What a poisoned chalice to inherit.

Yep. Dyson Sharp is sliding and he'd be perfect for our midfield

Idk whats happening with Fred Rodriguez - hes not even being mentioned for top-10 contention - but I think he'd be a great fit for us

Rory Wright as a Sandy boy also climbing up

If we finish anywhere from 10-18 then there'll be plenty of open-pool INSIDE MIDS for us to target

Rodriguez sounds ideal. He has everything we want and Garcia and Rodriguez sound like banditos together.

Definitely worth remembering. Look at the players we've targeted (and missed out on) lol.

To be fair they were on the radar players. Not nobodies.

We need good kicks

We really do

Pou is midfield. Nas can go in there. Imagine actually playing Owens there.

Watching us turn the ball over for over a decade had been a f'k'n nightmare.

Jsos uses the ball well. Go after him.

If Bergman's disposal is poor we don't need to be giving up first round picks for him. It'll just be same shit, different day.

We need good users.
Respectfully disagree. We have oodles of good kids already, we need good seniors.
Jsos l like but he doesn't shift the needle for us so there'd better be a larger purpose behind it. If he replaces Cordy on the list then it's good business.

I think JSOS does move the needle. We were an elite defensive side until this year. Losing Battle and having Howard go down turned our bat line into probably our most vulnerable this year. Patch that and get some midfielders back firing and we look a lot closer. Tigers went straight to a flag from where we are and they added good but not great players.

I'm lost. I said good kicks... not good kids... or am I missing something mate?
