They already looked like incompetent lying clowns with that statement. Now this response just doubled down on it.

As if she didn’t know they have audio recorded.

Would have been best to stick to the truth. Statement should have read something along these lines:

“The umpires were confused as to whether they should stop the game and made an error in judgement. They have now all had training to ensure such an error will not happen again in the future”.
Hard to come up with simple logic when first response is to bury oneself in a pit of denial

Finally they posted it on Instagram so I can share the video.

Laura Kane is an absolute blight on this comps administration. what an absolute liar.

Wow, that is shocking to see. Umpires should have to explain why they didn’t stop the game despite clearly seeing Schultz injured. It’s unacceptable for the AFL to just apologise. Umpires must be held to the highest standards.

as a former cricket umpire, I can accept errors of judgement. but errors concerning the rules, laws or conditions of the game are unacceptable. all 4 of them should be dropped from the panel this week.
Precisely. There is no room for falsehoods in umpiring. Who knows? Maybe they didn’t stop play because one of them was hoping Freo would gain an advantage.
These are questions that can be asked when umpires lie, which is what they have done here.

Potting the leaders for the blatant lying of field umpires is a bit of a stretch! AFL house is definitely not infallible, but Kane didn’t have access to that footage when the initial statement was released and took the word of the umpires. What else could they have done??

Her fault lies with the apology. These umpires need to be held accountable, it’s not acceptable to say they simply can’t remember.

When I watched the highlights over the weekend it was pretty obvious the umpires would have seen it.

I can almost handle the AFL lying /bending the truth over free kick decisions etc

But ffs this incident involved player safety.

Let's see what the punishment is for the umpires lying? Or is lying something the AFL ticks off on.

Why should we believe anything that comes from AFL house in the future?
