If Kozzy is stamping his feet wanting to go and Freo don't have the picks to satisfy us this is the next best thing.
I'd honestly rather keep unhappy Koz for a year aswell and hold on the market. If we were angling to spend all our picks on another 24 year old ruckman like TDK I reckon even less people would be open to this unless they see TDK as a key forward

Maybe we tried, doubt we did. Maybe try shake someone else out of WA rather than just take what were given. Even future picks at this point would be better than going back to the well on a ruck that we don't need.
Lose: 1st round pick and Koz
Gain : Jackson and Derkson
Keep: Goodwin and Oliver
= Problems solved

I'd rather keep Kozzy too but doubt it'll happen, he seems super set on going to Freo.

lol @ us if we lose our only proper forward for another ruckman.

I am a Jacko fan but I am a bigger fan of kicking actual ****ing goals and nobody, I repeat nobody, on our list can actually kick them other than Kozzie.

We had 7 forwards who kicked 0 goals between them last week. How the **** are we going to bring in forward talent without picks and just another ruckman to show for it.

Knowing Goodie he will be sleuthing at the idea of another bloke he can play behind the ball at the expense of the one bloke who kicks goals on our list.

Eh, the small part of my brain likes this. If i turn the rest of my brain off i really like this

Anyways you can't have #6 back campaigner

For the record I'd keep Kozzy but if he's gone then LJ > draft picks in a compromised draft

Disagree, we need forwards ffs. I’d rather take a punt on a couple of forwards at pick 30 and pick 40 than I would another ruckman. Didn’t you see us last weekend?

If Taylor is as good as people say he is then give him the picks to prove it for once because he isn’t proving much taking the obvious blokes in first rounders or upgrading rookies every year.

It’s been 7-8 seasons since he actually snared us a decent player in the 2nd round.

Surely we do Freo a solid and reluctantly give up Clayton Oliver for Jackson.

Comical that this might actually happen.

I reckon he will leave us for Brisbane or Gold Coast in a few years for some random ****en reason. He feels destined to have a bizarre career.
Or to Tassie, such is his chaos.

I'm not his biggest fan but you have to give him McVee, Chandler, Rivers as decent picks for where they were taken.
Turners more than useful.

Rivers and Chandler was 2019 - 6 years ago
Mcvee 2021

So basically 1 player (Back pocket Mcvee) beyond the 2nd round in 6 years he has nailed?

He has probably ****ed up more first round picks (Jefferson, Tholstrup) than he has nailed 2nd rounders and beyond (McVee) in last 5-6 years.

I wouldn’t call that a good outcome.

Without doing the analysis I would guess that’s probably one of the worst recent records across the league over that period of time.

Even I could probably achieve that strike rate to be honest.

I know you’ll never change your position on this, but the strategy has been very obvious and I think it’s sound.

A: Try whatever you can to move up to the elite end of the draft to secure what should be game winning talent. That includes using future firsts.

B: Picks 20+ are a big gamble because no lock high end talent slips that low. So use those to move up to the pointy end of the draft. Or trade them for known quantities.

C: Use the remaining picks with zero trade value and back yourself to occasionally hit on a gem. That could be an 18 year old, or a mature age from second tier comps.

Results for A: The two “busts” (awfully early to call on Tholstrup, but Jeffo is very close) were because they couldn’t get their actual prime target. They didn’t want Jefferson, they wanted Bailey Humphrey. They didn’t want Tholstrup (and Windsor), they wanted Harley Reid. Those picks were plan Bs. This approach worked a long while back with Clayton Oliver and Pickett. Looks to have worked for Xavier Lindsay too more recently.

Results for B: Lost several picks trying to trade up in the first round on missed targets, but would those picks have netted anything amazing if used? Grundy. McAdam. Melksham. Hibberd. More misses than hits in recent times, but did have some wins initially.

Results for C: McVee, Turner, Chandler, Bedford* all good but most some time ago now. Moniz-Wakefield showing promise but I’m not sold on him. Hunter, Billings haven’t worked out. This area is always going to be low return though.

I think it’s fair to say there has been less recent success with their strategy than earlier on. But which team has the better strategy? Nobody has the luxury of crystal ball hindsight as their strategy.
