Aleer looks ok in so much as he shows occasional flashes of talent but 12 games turning 24 and not getting a look in at GWS sounds more like a junk pick than a second rounder. We have our own youngsters that will fill the third tall and half back roles, we need a genuine key back.
Depends on the year of that pick I suppose, a second rounder this year projects out to the 40s based on how Twomey rates the first round going into the 30s.
This thread is pin the tail on the donkey sort of stuff.

12 months ago the argument around list management with Battle was we could afford our 3rd KPD and running interceptor to leave so we could fix the midfield issue once and for all.

We drafted a running half back and KPD, now the argument is it’s no longer a midfield issue, it’s a intercepting defender issue, so we should give up capital for Aleek and Bergman. This is despite all key data telling us otherwise.

You couldn’t make this stuff up. What’s next, we offload Nas for Butters and Bergman, and our issues become a half back flank issue in 2 years when Sincs is 32? Mind boggling stuff.
That’s not the argument.

I was talking about Friday night in isolation but generally how injury and suspension has robbed us our ability to play a genuine AFL level structure because personnel isn’t available.

I also said I was still happy how the Battle deal washed out (even if I do wish it did end in Harvey Langford/Draper) I think Tauru has some very special stuff about him.

The ability to intercept is very generalised. We couldn’t contain the big gorilla forwards this year. Battle would have helped. But he wasn’t the answer to the actual issue - which is that we still need an aggressive aerial defender. Every premiership side has atleast 1. Which is where you imagine the interest in Aleer comes in - Alongside Tauru, but where he ultimately ends up playing is probably still to be seen.

Bergman isn’t a key back btw and I don’t think any saints supporters want to lose Nas (I don’t think we will - I’m pretty confident on this)

Whether port/crows fans like it or not Naz is to the saints what Reid is to WC
JHF was to North
Etc etc.

If he goes I think saints will expect three firsts, or two firsts and Bergman.

Or
He's not leaving. If he were it would be to Port and you wouldn't place yourself into that club ATM given they look to be falling off a cliff at any moment. His attitude during the game against them, shooshig the croud and getting stuck into their players wouldn't have happened if he harboured thoughts of joining them at years end.

He might end up a decent depth player but you’d want him super cheap. Essendon gave up Saad and D’Ambrosio who can kick and drafted him over Phillipou. As shit as we have been at least we aren’t them.
Yeah but, yeah but, yeah but 🌽 🌽🌽

I think he stays.

But to discuss your point.

Yes equal value. But I think our fanbase should be very aware that those picks are likely mid to late teens picks in all years and one even in the 20s.

Terrible value.

Has to be good young players in return.

He'd done an ACL.
Nothing since then has been related to his ACL.
Ben was considered a FWD/Back because he wasn't as good in the forward line as Max.

“The first step for him is continuing to complete his rehab, and our medical team will be incredibly diligent in that regard. Ultimately, it’s about the sustained impact he can have on our club for the next 10 years."

Yes, he was in full rehab when we drafted him... Isn't his knee the issue now?

He'd probably be a lot better playing inside mid. I didn't see his Adelaide game, but his stats were good.

I know there was a perceived go home factor with Pou, but Bombers taking Tsatis and Cats taking local boy Clarke meant we got him.

Phillipou was seen as a polarising FIGJAM type. His personality marked him down. At St Kilda it’s a refreshing change. Most of the vanilla army that Richo had would piss at loud noises.

"for the next 10 years"

We're 7 years into that and unfortunately we've only seen 2 consistently good years out of him.

Fingers crossed for the next 10 I guess.

I think they are on the right track now. They have done things nearly identical us and probably the closest list to our own. I’m hoping they get it right to give us hope.

He is made of tissue paper

We were locked in on Rozee and Leathlean stepped in overrode it and said we are taking King

Heard this a few times now. Is this fact Mowman, or is it a mystical fairy tale?

Think Rozee was a Saints fan as well. Not that that matters.

Been said many times. Lethlean overruled Libba to take King over Rozee. I still think King could be a very good player for us and end up a win longer term. Joe Daniher looked absolutely cooked at the same age.

If King can get him back to play a full season he's a Coleman level full forward. We'd all love our own Jesse Hogan and if he gets right we have one. We missed him badly last week. Even as a big immobile lump plonked at the top of the goal square.

It feels like Carlton getting Judd involved with TDK (which is funny as he left for more money), is the same as us with Battle last year?

I think they (Carlton) are on the back foot and know it ?

You would hope that would twig the AFL's ears if Carlton/Visy do look at any dodgy 3rd party payments the AFL will be monitoring them. I have heard that the Hells Angels OMCG also have strong links with Visy. They owned the Darwin Distribrution centre and still have their tentacles in the network.

I still would take King at the moment. King is the type of player if he gets healthy and fit could be a key reason you win a flag. Rozee is very good, but I don't think he is a game changer like King.

I'd swap him for Rozee in a heart beat right now but King might end up being like finding a winning lottery ticket down the back of the couch at some point. He's certainly not a bust yet but he's right on that cusp if he can't start playing the bulk of seasons.

His absolute best is elite and he's only just starting to get to an age where consistency sets in. His brother is the model of what we could have. Averages 3.4 goals a game. Add that to our scoring repertoire and we look pretty potent.

Pretty much this.

The difference is, his brother has had continuity and has been able to hone his craft over multiple seasons and offseasons.

I think, of the two, Max has a higher ceiling, hopefully injuries don’t rob him of the opportunity to display that.

I don’t really buy that he’s made of tissue paper, but he’s certainly had a really chequered career injury-wise so far.
