Played 1 quarter of footy and nearly pinched it.
Don't think it's players drinking their own bathwater, but rather players being a bit too relaxed. In sports psychology you have the arousal curve, where if you're too switched on or not switched on enough you aren't ready to perform.

Midfielders positioning was not there tonight, which allowed GC to run out of and through the middle with relative ease.

Chol has shaken the cobwebs.

Would love to see Watson given license to go into the middle when we are struggling for pressure. Might rob us slightly up forward of a spark (was the spark tonight), but might also be what we need to stop the easy exits.

We played very well from half way through the second quarter. Far more than one quarter of footy

We are a very good side. Besides it being overumpired early it was one of the better games to watch. Throw in meek, Nash,gunston and dear with a bit more match fitness we win that.

Watson, scrimshaw, chol were huge and I thought wardy played one of his better games.

My carlton supporting wife said when we were losing "they're playing well". I told her that as a Hawks supporter that we're trying very hard but not playing well. We don't accept losing at the Hawks as playing well. Can't fault the boys for 2.5 quarters but we got mauled in the midfield. Slipped a lot of tackles. Missed our outs. I thought we really felt our omissions.

Reeves was alright in the ruck but offered no ground pressure or aerial presence. Meek would have offered both.

Impey is a key playmaker but also covers a lot of ground defensively. CJ was super dissapointing today.

Gunston (aside from being our leading goalkicker) is a super smart forward who would have been moving in the first quarter. Would also have instructed our forwards where to go.

Nash has his faults but his defensive work prevents those blow out centre clearances that occur because we have Ward/Mackenzie in there.

Effort was there but we really need to win at least two of the next four now.

Many of the 15 extra clearances were very clean and attacking ones.

There are a few that just don’t seem to have enough strength at the contest with weak attack on the footy and half hearted tackle pressure. Harry, Ned and Finn have flashes but seem to go to water in the one-on-ones. I fear they may continue to be fringe dwellers when we’re in healthy list phases. A shame, but there is no sentimentality in footy, I guess.

6 touches, 0 marks, trailed his man (32 years old) to every contest all night & on multiple occasions stood there shepparding the ball for nobody instead of going in and getting it. Not sure if we were watching the same game…

It was a 10 point loss against a side that's going really bloody well.

Just doesn't offer enough in the one area he should be which is the stoppage, and doesn't offer anything outside of it.

Those laying in Reeves are just way off and wrong. He was very honorable and honest in his effort. They should shift their criticism onto our Captain whose general play is deplorable. To the point I cringe when he gets ball in hand.

Disappointing - couple of missed opportunities and once again giving a side a head start

Boys gave it a good shot but fell short

Media will now spin that hawks unable to beat a top side and the goals from frees will be highlighted again

And gloss over the fact we're missing our best player and most structurally important key forward plus several others tonight. Nobody else outside maybe Brisbane in the top few teams have as many key outs as we do. They can do a comparison against other teams and watch how much we will stand out. It's impacted our season to a point we can't play the way we want to play on a weekly basis. Day plays against Geelong we win. He plays tonight we definitely win. Just hope it doesn't cost us a top 4 spot because it's very hard from there to win a flag.
