Autopsy Round 10, 2025: Suns get it done against plucky Hawks

We just need to figure out what is going on in our clearance work - we've been getting spanked around the ground in clearances, and couldn't win centre square clearances tonight either tonight - which has usually been our get out.

Champion Data during the week said it was the one glaring weakness in our profile, being clearances and was again on show. It really hurts our ability to control a game, and gave the Suns so many easy goals out of the middle.

We need a fair rethink on our setup - even despite several outs. Worps was poor tonight, he really butchered it in patches - his form is really frustrating. Up and down a lot this season, whereas last season felt really consistent. Not the only passenger in the middle - but he's the most experienced, I expected better.

Pretty simple.

I watched a bloke at the last bounce late in the game that had torched us all night stand there with no Hawthorn player next to him.

Positives - Newcombe is just immense, he is honestly our best marking option up the line which is both impressive and worrying.

Wizard... Legit don't know what more can be said, he is just an absolute star.

Morrison maintaining his mostly impressive start to the year

Negatives

Midfield and especially our clearance work, we aren't just losing but getting monstered.

Finn with ball in hand is simply a huge liability, he simply needs to be hard tagging or out of the team.

Sicily form still remains a big worry

Still a slight concern on CJ in high pressure moments to make the right decisions, been good recently so he gets a pass but something to watch over the next few weeks.

What was that game by Sic, even when he marked the ball late. He didnt play on, had no game sense took his time and gave the ball the highest forward 50 entry of the night! Frustrating!

This. Not only because Meek is a superior ruckman but he’s an absolute wrecking ball in the middle. All Reeves did all game was stand there like one of those stupid lumbering tree creatures in LOTR and swat at the ball feebly usually resulting in the ball being turned over to which he’d then start to crawl to a powerwalk to try and chase. Honestly his defensive running made Tom Mitchell look like Nick Watson on steroids by comparison. Haven’t been this angry about a Hawthorn player’s performance in a long time - it was utterly pathetic.

If Finn's game was to shut out Rowell, he wasn't great either. 0 tackles for a defensive based player is really disappointing. Missed our big mids this week. Day, Meek, Nash.
Our depth in Ward and Mackenzie played well but were let down by our defensive mids.
Maybe I'm searching for a scapegoat though.

To use our other ruckmans name in vane, he had many Meek efforts contesting loose balls that were just sitting there waiting for him to impact.

Game was lost in clearance battle.

Missing Meek, Nash and Day hurt us as GC waltzed thru at times.

This is an issue that needs to be fixed if we are to consider ourselves a legitimate chance this year.

The Day loss of class in the middle is bigger than most want to admit. Without him we are getting beating easily at centre bounces.
