Autopsy Round 10, 2025: Suns get it done against plucky Hawks

Agree with this, Dear was just starting to impact contests positively and boom , he’s subbed out.

The other side is Bailey Mac was very good though should’ve come on for someone else.
My lord we missed Gunston. That said...

Calsher was a curious decision play ahead of Serong. Watching the VFL, Serong is a beauty. If he goes to the backline then Sic, Hardwick or Weddle can go fwd.

Calsher is very young and his recent performance at VfL level was not worthy of an upgrade.

With all of the rests I think the selection committee got it wrong with our team.

Was he just barracking for Dan though? Can't begrudge that
Have heard of so many team mates reaching out and he shuns them, that is coming from a couple of Ex Hawks living in WA. Just let him go on with his life, and if he doesn’t want to be embraced by the club, then let him go, he loses out, not the club.

I can't handle watching finn run around anymore. Everyone can talk about his defensive running , but when he has the ball he is so clunky, fumbles or rushes it. So many of his possessions were direct turnovers to the Suns.
The one where he had it in space with space to run into ahead of him. He steadied and kicked a perfect kick exactly where he aimed. Straight to a gold coast player on their own.

It wasn't a skill error he just didn't think at all about a target. Just wanted to kick it forward.

He wasn't alone though Sicily did it. Worpel with his stupid knock out of a stoppage to Anderson 30m out straight in front.

We need a team rule, no kicks or handballs without actually having a target in a Hawthorn jumper. Even if it's a contest, or its out wide.

Don't just kick it to get it out of your area straight to opposition.

Spot on. I am sick of people giving a f**k about him. If he never returns to the club, then good riddance.

Yes, genuinely crazy that people care about a 4 time premiership player, Norm Smith medallist and one of the most prodigiously talented players we ever got to see. His present feelings towards the club are genuinely sad given his contribution and I look forward to the day all parties can reconcile. If you can’t separate Cyril’s present state of mind with what joy he gave us then I feel sorry for you.

This was an important game for our mental resolve.

We came back, we were up at three quarter time. GC had another gear. We didn’t.

You can’t be 32 down against any contender.

The GC MONKEY, still well and truly on the back.

There are plenty of positives however we haven’t won a game against the odds in a while.

KOLOKOTRONIS
At the MCG with a full team we would wipe the floor with that mob. We have a lot more gears to go through. The Suns aren’t a contender anyway. Losing to the Tigers over here is a great example of how bad they are away from the heat and humidity up north.

I love what he gave the club, but the club gave him a lot aswell. Yes it is sad, and I would love him involved, but if he doesn’t want it, then it’s on him now.

Hodge approached him and had a chat it wasn't the other way around either. Hodge has tried reaching out several times but got nothing. The least Cyril could do is respond with " I'm not ready to talk right now Hodgey leave me be for a bit" but he's completely shunned most of his ex team mates. It's getting quite sad now considering we are doing everything we can to bring him back into the fold. I understand Cyril's grievances I truly do but at some point the healing has to begin in order to move forward.
That's the part that bothers me. Sure be upset with your own issues with the club or some of the individuals. But to just cut off all your teammates who thought they were on good terms with him when he retired then nothing.

It was a good effort but we are probably just lacking that dynamic midfielder that everyone is talking about. Wouldn't count on day for that as he's body can't handle a full season so far.

He also had the handball receive from Watson where he just ended up handballing to no one in particular inside 50, the snap that didn't make the distance from about 30m out.

6 touches, 0 marks, 1 clearance..... they really don't.
When he was off in the last, weddle got absolutely pantsed in the ruck and clearances. . Reeves back on and it more than evened up. And then you have the whole problem of if we’d led in the ruck, he’s not where we actually need him to be.

I think even with Day fully fit and firing we need one more, I think the club knows it and that is why we are not signing Worpel yet

We are no guarantee to get them at the G, they could finish top 2 and we might have to beat them at home. They are an elite elite midfield and one that i worry about playing anywhere.

Nonsense. Dear has had 3 games at box hill to build fitness. That's all he needs to do there, he doesn't force someone out his spot is waiting for him. He is best 22 lock and we don't need to play forward at box hill with 0 midfield. Last week with hustwaite in the side box hill didn't have an AFL level mid.

When he got tunnelled ? Landed on his arse? Dog act. Ouch. But then I do question his second efforts bit to statue like for me, Meeks gets in and under for a big bloke.

His second efforts are fine, and when our midfield wasn't fighting, he was often the only player getting in and trying to fight for the ball.
He isn't an elite ruck like gawn, or a very good ruck like xerri and meek, but he is more than serviceable.

No to croc next week. Terrible, just prancing around the ground doing, what seems, absolute jack shit . Keep dear in, with Gunston back next week we'll have our preferred frwd line for the first time.
Sicily DOES Have a grumbly groin so I was surprised that he played, thought he'd be a late change. Wouldn't mind him rested next week. We have enough cover down back.
Clearances are getting worse. We use to win the centre clearances at least, now, we're losing those as well. Should've won this imo, in front at 3 qtr time , all we needed in the last was sis, Croc, mass to get going but unfortunately they were nowhere near it. To be atop four side, gotta win against top 5-6 sides but it's a worry that we're not and have a huge month ahead. I know we put up a good effort but honestly, I'm more flat than not . Need class in the middle , we don't have.

This is what it will come to sadly. There will be a point where we move on but leave the door ajar if anything changes so to speak.

Anyone else notice that when Massimo isn’t getting his hands on the ball , we are really struggling to get our game going. Barely touched it again today. Same against Port.

Well done to the players, can't help but feel that the loss was preventable in the coaches box. The clearances were a joke, they doubled us in the first half and for some reason we left Finn in the backline while all the damage was done. Rowell, Anderson, Miller and Witts finished with 35 between them.

I don't know when we'll learn the lesson that Dylan Moore is actually our 3rd best clearance player. We comfortably won the rest of the match but paid full price for our early ineptitude. I really expected more from the coaches, I thought we'd be better set up to handle their mids, knowing that territory would dictate the result.
