Autopsy Round 10, 2025: Suns get it done against plucky Hawks

When he was off in the last, weddle got absolutely pantsed in the ruck and clearances. . Reeves back on and it more than evened up. And then you have the whole problem of if we’d led in the ruck, he’s not where we actually need him to be.
Weddle was doing no worse than what Reeves was doing. I'd also counter argue by saying when he went off in the second, we lifted. He was terrible and it's an easy drop for Meek.

After watching that game considering the outs we had and only being 8 points away from win, I think we're tracking okay this season. It's messy for sure, but when the team can't settle on a consistent lineup each week and yet still play out close matches against the stronger sides for the most part, imagine what we will look like once we have our full strength lineup.

Been sad to watch Sicily's current down patch, hoping that he can regain his confidence because he's always been dependable in the backline. He's just gotta light that fire again.

On to the next for the Hawks!

No to croc next week. Terrible, just prancing around the ground doing, what seems, absolute jack shit . Keep dear in, with Gunston back next week we'll have our preferred frwd line for the first time.
Sicily DOES Have a grumbly groin so I was surprised that he played, thought he'd be a late change. Wouldn't mind him rested next week. We have enough cover down back.
Clearances are getting worse. We use to win the centre clearances at least, now, we're losing those as well. Should've won this imo, in front at 3 qtr time , all we needed in the last was sis, Croc, mass to get going but unfortunately they were nowhere near it. To be atop four side, gotta win against top 5-6 sides but it's a worry that we're not and have a huge month ahead. I know we put up a good effort but honestly, I'm more flat than not . Need class in the middle , we don't have.
Gotta feel for Hustwaite not getting a game this week.

His second efforts are fine, and when our midfield wasn't fighting, he was often the only player getting in and trying to fight for the ball.
He isn't an elite ruck like gawn, or a very good ruck like xerri and meek, but he is more than serviceable.
He is an average to below average tap ruckmen who offers 0 around the ground. He is okay depth maybe but claiming any more is a massive stretch.

Ward with a team high 8 score involvements.

I haven't been sold on Ward at all; I think he won me over tonight - was really impressed with him at least for me the best game he has played for us by a mile - I really hope he continues to prove me wrong and for the next 10 years I laugh of embarrassment when I watch him dominate because i didn't think he had it in him to be a gun.

Agree! I was happy to start with, but changed my mind after his barracking for the sun.

A shame Rioli cannot give the forgiveness he is seeking. I am little over him…. Stay at the Suns Cyril as you clearly do not want to make peace with the Hawks.

* I feel the Hawks have done all they can do to reconcile with Cyril. They’ve taken on his feed back and acted on it and paid him out.
Keep your shirt on mate, Cyril being at the game was a great step forward. Might've noticed he had family playing for the other team, so it's no surprise he was watching as a neutral.

I think even with Day fully fit and firing we need one more, I think the club knows it and that is why we are not signing Worpel yet
Yeah definitely it's a bit harsh but we can push young harry Morrison out for an a grader plus your genuine battler in Finn McGinnis.

I love what he gave the club, but the club gave him a lot aswell. Yes it is sad, and I would love him involved, but if he doesn’t want it, then it’s on him now.

What do you mean the club gave him a lot as well? You mean they paid him adequately for his services? Cyril is a superstar of our club and the AFL, one of the most important pillars to our success during the 2008-2016 period. Can you name me one other player who didn't play 10 games leading up to the Grand Final but the club made sure he was included in the side? I can't - they didn't do that for equality reasons they did it because he could single handedly win us the game. I don't care about D&I or whatever, but the club needs to do whatever it takes to get Cyril to see how absolutely loved he is and how the times that have had a negative impact for him and his family which has led him to feel angst against the club is something we do not represent and condone. Mitch knows this, and how important reconciling with Cyril is to the values and culture of our great club and I have full faith he will get it done.

I am a pretty open minded person but I have no idea how people can have a different opinion to this.

Happy enough with the result in the context of it all.
Half way through the second it looked as if it could've blown into a shellacking, but those three quick goals before half time kept us right in it.
Minimised the damage the loss did to our percentage, with some handy personnel management thrown in also which should stand us in good stead going forward.
Back at the G next Saturday arvo against the other Qld team.

Good effort, Hawks!

I agree. And the evidence is growing more and more that Ramsden is simply a ruckman and not a forward who rucks. Every time he gets the chance at box hill he does the job.

I think he's in Darwin now so unsure if he's playing box hill this week (juh might finally get a run) but I think next time we need to cover Meek it's Ramma coming in.

There seem to be a couple of obvious problems at Hawthorn for mine.

1/ Sic, Scrimshaw, Battle, Barrass is too much. It is not working.

2/ Both forward flankers are a bit not physical enough.

What? Our backline has been huge this year. And Ginnervan and Watson chased and pressured fairly well tonight. Ginnervan had his best game for the year.

Oof, this also hurts to say but when do we talk about Croc?
I have defended him so far but it is getting harder, think he could do with a week in the twos but i am not sure we have anyone better to replace him with at present.

I said the same thing weeks ago. Played his best half of football when he went into the midfield against port at half time. Definitely needs to spend more time in the guts
Agree with this, Moore is so good he will have an impact anywhere he plays but we can cover him forward of centre. We need him in the middle at the moment.

Weddle was doing no worse than what Reeves was doing. I'd also counter argue by saying when he went off in the second, we lifted. He was terrible and it's an easy drop for Meek.
Again, stats clearly say otherwise. Particularly in the last. Think we had 1 clearance when weddle rucked vs 7 for reeves.

Not arguing reeves was good, just that weddle wasn’t better.
Agree that Meek was sorely missed and will come str8 back in

For all the crap talk about fortress, GC beat us and the dogs (who will both play in September) by a combined 3 goals. And remember they have had a very easy run although Richmond beat this mob!

So long as we finish above them in the end, they gotta come to the G and from what we saw tonight, they won't get close to us there.
Finishing above them will be hard with their gift of a fixture…

Nonsense. Dear has had 3 games at box hill to build fitness. That's all he needs to do there, he doesn't force someone out his spot is waiting for him. He is best 22 lock and we don't need to play forward at box hill with 0 midfield. Last week with hustwaite in the side box hill didn't have an AFL level mid.
I agree that the game was not on terms that was a fit for Calsher. The first half was the Hawks being smashed in the contest and Anderson owning quality possession.

To say Calsher is a lock is plain partisan. You love him, and that is OK. He did not earn his spot in this game through his performances in the VFL. That is certain. IMO only Reeves (who has been great at VFL level), Serong (who is in competition with Skyrim, and the fast improving Mraz who has Barras and Battle ahead of him.
The other fine performer is Seamus. He need to improve his disposal but when he does, he is a player that will force hos way into the Hawks best 22.

You can want Dear I to our team, and I do as well, but he has to earn it and so far he has not.

I think even with Day fully fit and firing we need one more, I think the club knows it and that is why we are not signing Worpel yet
A fully fit Day we would have beaten the Cats and Suns tonight and possibly won the flag last year. He is an elite talent! Ward and Mackenzie are beginning to emerge and obviously someone like Reid would be the icing on the cake!
