Autopsy Round 10, 2025: Suns get it done against plucky Hawks

There seem to be a couple of obvious problems at Hawthorn for mine.

1/ Sic, Scrimshaw, Battle, Barrass is too much. It is not working.

2/ Both forward flankers are a bit not physical enough.

Yeah i dont agree with this post, I think our Forward and Backline are good enough, today we were missing a player who is on track to be an AA. And it think we have good enough depth in both areas.

Our midfield is absolutely the issue at the moment - Meek was obviously a significant out and it goes without saying re: Day but we need one more absolute gun mid in our last golden era we had 3 legit A graders in Mitch, Hodge, Burgyone who we could rotate in their with Lewis not too far off that calibre plus another A grader in Smith on the wings and the luxury of having someone like Cyril run through the centre if we absolutely need.

This year (assuming injury free) we have Day and maybe Newcome that is not going to be enough - we have enough young talent and potential to naturally get one or even two more but we need to acquire one as well - I absolutely believe that

What do you mean the club gave him a lot as well? You mean they paid him adequately for his services? Cyril is a superstar of our club and the AFL, one of the most important pillars to our success during the 2008-2016 period. Can you name me one other player who didn't play 10 games leading up to the Grand Final but the club made sure he was included in the side? I can't - they didn't do that for equality reasons they did it because he could single handedly win us the game. I don't care about D&I or whatever, but the club needs to do whatever it takes to get Cyril to see how absolutely loved he is and how the times that have had a negative impact for him and his family which has led him to feel angst against the club is something we do not represent and condone. Mitch knows this, and how important reconciling with Cyril is to the values and culture of our great club and I have full faith he will get it done.

I am a pretty open minded person but I have no idea how people can have a different opinion to this.
I agree but the club did do a lot for Cyril. He was given an elite environment to be his best in. They vent over backwards to get his body right and deal with soft tissue injuries. He was given a lot of love from his teammates and fans. The club gave him the opportunity to contribute to 4 flags.

If he went to ANY other club he would have been a 4 time premiership player.

He made an enormous contribution to the club and we should forever work to make him welcome back to the club. We even if that is in 50 years (we should also be doing this for Peterson and Miller Lewis and any other past players). But it will only happen when Cyril is ready and wants to recognise what the club gave him and his good memories from his time at the club.

It wasn't always good, and I'm sure there are some people he never wants to be around. Or maybe never officially back.

Outside of that, I hope he can at least just have a beer with some of his teammates and remember the good times. But reportedly even some of the guys he was really close to can't get through to him for a 1 on 1 catch up.

I have defended him so far but it is getting harder, think he could do with a week in the twos but i am not sure we have anyone better to replace him with at present.
A week as the sub could put some fire under him.

Or do the Clarkson trick of dropping him when you know there's a late out.

1) Great game hawks. So proud of the endeavour.
2) Joey Montagna is a complete arseclown.
What was that crap he came up with (might have been at 3QT) that we'd scored a lot of our goals from free kicks?

When he got tunnelled ? Landed on his arse? Dog act. Ouch. But then I do question his second efforts bit to statue like for me, Meeks gets in and under for a big bloke.
Meek is awesome and only getting better. The ruck rule change benefitted him over the ruck jumpers and the extremely tall and then emphasised his developing attribute... his ability to affect the in motion play.

Meek gets many taps to advantage and then follows up with clearances of his own, but maybe more importantly, being a part of the handball chain that proves a non pressured exit.

I screamed the biggest f-bomb when that snap 30m out didn't make the distance
He just panics all the time and rushes to dispose of the ball, he really poor awareness of his surroundings.

Just needs to be a specialised player, if he plays it is because we want him to take somewhat out of the game. Outside of that he really just doesn't warrant a spot in the team.

No to croc next week. Terrible, just prancing around the ground doing, what seems, absolute jack shit . Keep dear in, with Gunston back next week we'll have our preferred frwd line for the first time.
Sicily DOES Have a grumbly groin so I was surprised that he played, thought he'd be a late change. Wouldn't mind him rested next week. We have enough cover down back.
Clearances are getting worse. We use to win the centre clearances at least, now, we're losing those as well. Should've won this imo, in front at 3 qtr time , all we needed in the last was sis, Croc, mass to get going but unfortunately they were nowhere near it. To be atop four side, gotta win against top 5-6 sides but it's a worry that we're not and have a huge month ahead. I know we put up a good effort but honestly, I'm more flat than not . Need class in the middle , we don't have.
Agree Croc was a non-event

I agree that the game was not on terms that was a fit for Calsher. The first half was the Hawks being smashed in the contest and Anderson owning quality possession.

To say Calsher is a lock is plain partisan. You love him, and that is OK. He did not earn his spot in this game through his performances in the VFL. That is certain. IMO only Reeves (who has been great at VFL level), Serong (who is in competition with Skyrim, and the fast improving Mraz who has Barras and Battle ahead of him.
The other fine performer is Seamus. He need to improve his disposal but when he does, he is a player that will force hos way into the Hawks best 22.

You can want Dear I to our team, and I do as well, but he has to earn it and so far he has not.
Mate Dear earnt his spot in the team last year. He wasn't playing 2s this year to kick bags and fight his way in. He was just getting the runs in the legs.

How many weeks so you want Day to play at Box Hill when he's back? And if Hustwaite plays better than him at box hill does day stay there till he's best on?

Serong isn't playing forward at box hill so wouldn't come in. We've been crying out for another marking target and Dear is that. He crashed a few packs that we were losing marks to in previous weeks.

**** you fox. İncluding Dunstall, if you listen to them post game, you'd think campaigners won by 18 goals!! They scored , wait for it, ONE WHOLE GOAL more than us but apparently they have grown up and now are to be taken seriously.. yea? Right, not one mention of players missing or that couple of sub 50 gamers playing as mids for us against more seasoned midfielders of the campaigners! Dunstall really needs to take some time off, look himself in the mirror and try and ****ing remember whether if he's ever had anything positive to say about Hawthorn. Sick of his shit.

Hopefully B Macdonald gets a full game next week. Love his dash. Pushing Sicily forward has backfired in 2 winnable games against the Cats (Chol and Gunston) and Suns (Hardwick and Chol) when other forwards were looking dangerous and we seemed to have momentum in those 2 games.
In: Meek, Impey, Nash and Gunston.
Out: Reeves, C Macdonald, Maginness and Dear.

Yeah. What was with this GC "Come of Age" narrative Fox was going with.

Ginnivan was dropped a few weeks ago because he let Rozee run rampant without pressuring him.

Noble did the same today and his opponent didn't go anywhere near him. Who was it?

Watson was playing deep on Powell. Ginnivan was higher up the ground linking up and often trying to stop Rioli. Moore was playing long periods in the midfield.

I think CMac might be in the gun.

Didn't think Reeves was that bad. Never felt it was Witts that was giving them the clearance dominance except for a short period in the 2nd. Just Rowell and Anderson outhunting our mids and then the lack of a sweeper

Agree Reeves wasn't bad; he was serviceable even though the conditions also didn't help. What really shows is how good Meek is. Meek is unbelievably agile and quick on his feet - I think he is a top 5-6 ruck in the comp personally.

Hodgey was saying most recently that he'd been trying to contact Cyril over the years but Cyril wouldn't return his calls.
Looks like Hodgey finally got his man.

His missus has his phone and he’s only allowed it for 30 minutes a day.

She also gives him an allowance.

She told him not to attend the celebration at the MCG against Richmond and Cyril did what he was told.

Love the Wiz - he has purple patches but would love to see him become a consistent threat rather than just fading in and out of it- forget he’s such a young player- will only improve with time and experience…

Patches comes with playing the position of a small forward. Even the best in the last 15 years (Cyril and Eddie) had their quite games and periods during a game.

I would absolutely love for him to pitch hit in the middle for us when the game really needs to be won and I think he could dominate there

I think he is an absolute jet and going to be a 250+ multiple AA player for us - I would like him to be called the "Freak from the outter East" because the Wiz nickname has been used previously - the only thing he in my opinion he could improve on is some times he falls into the trap of playing for free-kicks when he is could easily win the contest anyway - slight knock but a superstar

Not sure why peeps don't realise the AFL gives Fox the script for their funded teams ... Swans, GWS, Lions and Suns.

Need those $'s from NSW and QLD growth markets.

I stopped listening to these clowns years ago.

Bloods culture, orange tsunami, Fagan's Lions hearts, Gold Coast have arrived... lalalala

Just ignore folks, concentrate of fact we need to win clearances to finally click this year.

Who gives a flying rats 🐀 tossbag what the Suns are doing.

Watching that game it gave the impression the suns where the ones missing 6-7 best 22 players not us. Their midfield is really good but outside that they are a really average team.

Problem was we let them get a huge head start on us (being down 32-6) then let them dominate clearances against us all game.

We match them in clearances or don’t give them that head start and we win the game comfortably. Even with all our outs. Would also help if our defence stopped giving up very easy goals.

We are close to clicking it’s just not quite happening yet.
