We've played 3 top 6 teams over the last 3 weeks with a 4th top 6 opponent a few weeks before that. We've literally played every top 6 team in the league other than Collingwood and we're sitting 2nd on the ladder (despite being a game behind every team not named Essendon). Our only top 6 loss this year came at the hands of the reigning premier on their home turf by 17 points. How is that a gifted draw?

Wanna know how many top 6 teams Hawthorn have played so far this year? Just 1 and that occurred tonight when they lost to the Suns. The Hawks have been gifted an unbelievably kind draw so far and they're about to embark on a season defining month of footy that includes 4 top 6 teams in Brisbane, Collingwood, Bulldogs and Adelaide. So we'll soon find out if the Hawks are legit or if they were just the major beneficiaries of a kind draw over the first 10 weeks of the season.

But no one in the media is going to tell you Hawthorn's draw has been soft so far. That's not the narrative they want to push.

You realise that the reason some of those sides aren’t in the top 6 is because we actually beat them?

If we lose to Essendon they are 7th with a game in hand, GWS would be 6th if they beat us?

The arguments around this sort of stuff with the benefit of hindsight is so dumb. Sydney away in opening round as the reigning premier is a good win, to be dismissive of those sort of things is garbage. I don’t think many looked at our draw and had us 7-3 at this stage. Nobody thought Carlton would be bottom 4 standard early on either. Port as a genuine away game in gather round too with all the pre game theatrics? Yeah.. kissed on the dick

Free kick totals should be the same? Nah, u need to have prior. You clearly forgot the Sicily throw in the goal square. Or Jiath jumping into a pack and they called 'in the back', then the replay showing that there was literally no-one even near him. Umps were the worst in any game in 30 years and justifiably had the media light shone on them. So Hawks are very lucky to not be 0-2 the last 2 weeks. So count yourselves very lucky to be 1-1.

Hawks were underwhelming and won't be doing anything this year with neutral umpires.
You are correct - all the incorrect calls were to Hawks advantage :drunk:

Only saw the last quarter but that was very enjoyable.

Be better if those two ducking dick heads weren’t rewarded but here we are
Watson, Moore, Ginnivan are shockers. The more vocal the fans are about it the better chance the AFL realises the umpires are on notice

I don't mind little blokes who go in hard and low to have an advantage.

Just as I don't mind tall long limbed blokes like Darcy/King's getting favourably treated with the chopping of the arms rule.

It's a game for all sizes and shapes. Gotta be some benefit to being a midget.

Hawks look like a very resilient team to me. Even when they have some outs, the forward line not working that well, or the game is not on their terms, they still persist and remain positive and dangerous. This attitude seems to run deep through the whole team, it is a very powerful force.

I don't much fancy their forward line, they need more tall options. Thankfully they have 2 of the better swing players in the team.

Going up and having your arms chopped isn’t the same as driving your head into people and then throwing the head back.

This is what I got for laughing at a couple of his posts:

I'm sure that news to Brisbane and their supporters.

Also, massive Grand Final losses have generally resulted in teams having poor follow up years.

lol my bad.

Yeah sure but this guy was suggesting we’d been gifted an easy draw from the AFL when it’s only been easy with the benefit of hindsight

Just put Ginni back in his old jumper and old dehydrated lettuce had Cornes will call him out mercilessly rather than fap all night about it
Meanwhile Kane Cornes actually on Ginnivan's game last night
“But the Ginnivan free kick that he won and kicked a goal from is not a free kick. He’s lowered his sense of gravity and there umpire has been sucked in to that.

And on the tactic of ducking to get the free, more generally :

“As soon as you duck into the tackle, automatic, it has to be your prior."

“I’d go as far as to say it should be a free kick against for ducking into the tackle because of his dangerous it is."

Sorry, I've watched his whole career and don't agree. He could reach a fantastic and ultra damaging level with his possessions, but decent is a fairer summation so far. Still an excellent player with improvement left. You're acting as if his ball use is impeccable. It just isn't.

Newcombe is an elite contested bull, ball winner and gut runner. He is a mixed bag as far as distributing it, and as of yet has not reached the upper elite level of consistent scoreboard impact.

All the cop outs and excuses are just diminishing your original argument: that he is elite in terms of skills and decision making. You wouldn't need to add those excuses if he was in the A+ tier of midfielders with maximum hurt factor.

The Hawthorn players that consistently slice opponents apart by hand and foot are mostly on your wings and flanks. Day can be very damaging as well. Newcombe skill-wise is in the tier below that (but as an overall player he's ahead due to his ball winning inside/outside), but the tier above ball butchers.
I’ve also watched his whole career, it’s not a hard thing and it doesn’t make you an expert if you’re wrong. I am not acting like it’s impeccable because it’s not but you’re acting like it’s diabolically bad. So it’s definitely somewhere inbetween which is fair, but decent is a severe understatement and you’re underrating that portion of his game. Considering I said it’s very good/good, and someone who I’d say has impeccable skills would be a smooth mover like Amon off half back for example. The consistency is the difference, but can also be the level of damage compared to genuine butchers.

I didn’t once say he’s an elite decision maker or skills? I think he is a damaging, good user and who can hit kicks that a lot can’t but I’d say that for someone like Petracca too (especially of old), and plenty of others. I didn’t call it elite because he isn’t consistent enough yet but it’s still a very good part of his game.

Saying I’m making excuses is crazy, if you’re in a worse team you’re going to have a harder time to get score involvements and goal assists because worse teams score less 🧠

The tier above ball butchers 🤣 I’m telling you as a Hawthorn fan, I would prefer Newcombe kicking inside 50 to Day.

Humouring you, the better kicks, like your genuinely elite ones or very good would be:
D’Ambrosio, Amon, Sicily, Scrimshaw etc

There’s plenty that are just as good kicks but are less consistent which obviously happens aswell with positioning (playing in more congestion)

Like Newcombe, Ward, Mackenzie and Day, the former two being my clear choices for players to kick inside 50.

Even Worpel has improved this portion of his game, and players said they like having him kicking it into him (was a social thing from last year).

Then you have your forwards and half forwards like Moore, MacDonald, Watson, Ginnivan who are all pretty good users and big parts of the ball movement.

This is clear. But Newcombe is one of the most damaging players in the side because of his ability to win at the coalface, be a “leg driver” as David King likes to say, exploding from contest and breaking tackles. Having the ability to handball someone into space or breaking free (or already working into space in general play/marking around the ground) to then be damaging by foot.

Yep our forward line still missing Lewis and Dear played is first game after an long term injury and no pre season. Not the finished product yet. The season hasn't even reached the half way mark so we have time

Jai, despite his first name, had earned my respect as a skilled and fair player.

Diving and staging like this is absolutely pathetic and a blight on the game. Jai has lost my respect and will need to work hard to earn it back.

Things like this should receive suspensions.
Oh no what will he do with @ Elixuh’s respect, what a shame 😱😱

Yeah but Rowell averages more I50s, goal assists, score involvements, a better disposal efficiency, more clearances, and more metres gained. All stats leaning towards a more polished player 🤗🤗
“Stats”.

James Peatling has more goal assists, clearly more polished.

Gawn averages more score involvements he’s a silky mover isn’t he?

Ben McKay has better disposal efficiency, god he doesn’t miss a target!! 🎯

You see why stats are irrelevant without context?

Watch to see how they get their disposals and how they use them, and off the ball. Stats used as a context buffer to that.

Yep, Rowell is no good.

Other clubs should stop trying to recruit him.

Please.
