Dont think he will be a world beater but he could still be a very handy player for us

He has the best traits of a tall player but can also pressure like a small

He’s also very team 1st with how he plays, loves to run repeat leads to create marking opportunities for himself or gaps for the other forwards to push into

Yes he’s holder but still no reason we can’t expect to get a good 5 years out of him at least

Id rather see Faull play than Lefau, Lefau could be handy but not at the expense of the younger guys.

No point worrying about that imo
Play the best 22 every week and whoever makes the cut makes it

Whoever doesn’t make it need to get better to make it so the MC have no choice but to select them

if were talking raw output he could well be our best kpf, including the current version of Lynch. but if we want games for kids he might have to take a back seat.

he would get interest from clubs wanting that cheap but effective mcstay style forward option.
He ain't leaving punt rd

It shouldn't be binary. Wouldn't hurt to manage Faull's load a bit throughout the season. Plenty of games to give them both development together and separately
True, but I just don't get the whole excitement factor about Lefau coming back. He is obviously going to give us more depth but i still wouldn't be picking him above a young forward like Faull unless Jonty needed a rest.

Because Lynch is cooked and won't play beyond this year, assuming he makes it through the year.

Wish people would stop acting like Lefau is some kind of world beater.

He is almost 10 years older than say for example Faull and Jonty averages similar stats to what Lefau has in his 10 games at senior level.

Yes, Lefau has kicked more goals atm but the way Jonty is progressing he will average more than 1.4 goals a game. The job of a key forward is also to take contested marks and already Jonty is ahead.
I don't think ANYWHERE I said that.

But he was our best forward (with lynch out) last year till his injury. Sending young players out to get smashed each week is not something any coach does today, they blood them, rest them and rotate them so they gain confidence back.

Maybe don't read so much into any statement.

if lynch goes down long term lefua is the only player even close to being the sort of threat he is and holding the shape of our forward line. he is gold as insurance. hard to discount how well he performed last year as a focal point with the likes of kmac and pickett adding nothing around him. he was seriously impressive.

We have enough senior players in the side atm to shield the young guys; you still need to get senior games into them.

Id only pay him in the side as a 3rd tall option behind Lynch and Faull/Armstrong or as insurance if Lynch got injured or needed a weeks break.

I wouldn't be playing him in front of a young key forward as a preference.

while lynch is there, we should be getting kids to play alongside him as much as possible but we could use lefaue to extend lynchs career. lefaus travels instead of lynch or lynch has a few weeks off here and there managed and slot in mykelti. its a nice option to have.

Agree, he's 27 this June, and probably still needs a couple of development years to really be at his best, where he'll then be 28/29.

I definetely wouldn't be prioritising him over Faull, Armstrong or Sims. If he can work with them great though.

Thought he was tracking really well last year and looked like our only damaging forward with Lynch out. 2nd ACL though and a bunch of hungry talented young tall forwards will make it harder for him to cement a spot now though. That being said, will only be a positive to have more competition for spots and there’s no way there’s ever gonna be a better prone call to the family than Mykelti’s last year when he snagged the last spot on the list!

Wonder how quickly some of us in here will turn on him if he struggles early, due to not playing for a year.

Good that he is back but he is a good bit player for us with a solid mature body, not keen to see him take a spot from one of our promising key forwards though.

I don't understand this. Sticking the boots into experienced players is one thing, piling onto kids is another. Richmond supporters need remember what that title means - 'Supporters'. We should be our players biggest cheerleaders, defending them against outside noise and criticism. Instead, many feel they should be the first to get the knife out.

Voice your concern, sure, but hold back on writing off kids until they've at least had a chance. Hopefully people afford Mykelti some time to find his form before immediately calling for his head.

I’m looking forward to seeing how he performs, even if it’s just half a game. He showed great things before his injury. All the best to him.
