Absolutely gutting news to hear, footy is so secondary to this type of stuff.

Hard to process/express on a footy forum but just wanted to get this out there: am currently doing my psych masters while working in disability care and 100% believe in these results:

In contrast to older data from the 70-80s, current studies indicate that committing to and following through on literally any type of therapy promotes the best outcomes for mental health.

In other words, the act of seeking and committing to therapy is statistically so much more influential than the type of therapy it actually is. The caveat being: it's got to feel right for you.

Seeing a psychologist, seeing a community counsellor, group therapy, couples therapy, hypnotherapy, mates counselling programs, anything. It's not that the data invalidates one type of therapy over another, it's that if it feels right for you, the act of committing to it is going to give you the best results possible.

Sounds counterintuitive as a prospective psychologist but honestly, for men especially I would encourage everyone to open themselves up to whatever type of help they need. If you're hesitating or unsure, the act of just committing to seeking help is the biggest step of all.

If anyone does want anything specific or any ideas for directions please feel free to pm. Love to all you footy nuffies out there.
So true. I’ve had in and off depression for years and last year losing dad and falling out with work and leaving a good job stuck me in a hole. I didn’t wait like I have in the past, sought help and although I only had a few sessions it’s like a weight lifts off you.

They reframe you and get you to go back to basics and do the little things that make you happy in life that you just stop doing because you are stuck in your head.

This has to be the toughest loss I’ve ever felt as a footy fan. Just devastating. If you’ve suffered through sibling grief and were a fan of Adam it cuts really deep.

I watched Memoir of a Snail a few times recently and part of me wishes Adam had got that do you believe in magic? miracle twin reunion with Troy. Will be playing that version in my head the next few days when I feel down.

Does anyone know if Scott Selwood is currently assistant coaching Collingwood at the MCG?

Surely he's taken leave

Bit numbed to tragedies befalling public figures over the years but Adam has broken that, absolutely heartbreaking.

Thoughts with his journey, his families but also you eagles fans - many of us full blown supporters buy in to club and players to a level that this may feel like a loss to your own family.

Hope you lot are ok.

Rest up Adam, as a dad and a brother my heart hurts for the family left behind. Especially his beautiful kids who have to face this world without their dad in their corner.

I'll remember Adam Selwood as a tough as nails uncompromising team first player who never took a short step. Blocking shepherding tackling and smothering were his bread and butter.

As for everyone saying it ain't weak to speak.

Plenty of blokes are speaking, but is anyone listening?

How many more men have to take their own lives before we realise the way men are spoken about and treated is a major problem in our society. Think first before you tell your son he's mansplaining , think first before you call your father toxic. It all takes its toll.

Plenty of blokes are speaking, but is anyone listening?

That's the issue I think.

What do you do if someone genuinely comes to you in trouble?

Aussie thing has been "you'll be right" or "just keep busy"

what can you actually do? I feel like just telling someone a phone number or website does little.

whole thing is horrible

Time and place people, and this ain't it. FFS.

I’ve deleted the post and all of the references to it on the basis that it’s too soon in what should be a condolence thread. Details of the circumstances will be revealed in time but speculation, informed or otherwise, isn’t helpful or necessary for now

Like everyone, I’m gutted at this news. It hits hard and I simply can’t fathom what his family and close friends are going through

He was an absolute warrior on the field and gave 100% every time he ran out. In a team of stars he was one of those doing the hard work in the trenches that allowed them to shine

It should also be remembered that when the club was on its knees in the wake of the illicit drugs furore he was one of the players who led the way in reestablishing the culture of the club. He was no longer a player by the time we won the flag in 2018 but he undoubtedly helped build the platform for it

He should and will be remembered fondly

Vale Adam and condolences to your family and friends
