I switched off at half time.
Was there anything positive at all?
Im taking my 3 grandchildren to the Geelong game for their first game, I worried it might damage them now.

Short answer would be scalp those tickets and save yourself the further heart ache

We were beyond embarrassing. Can only imagine what would happen on the cats home deck if we dish that up

Wasn't praising it, just pointing it out as a block of games in which we have shown improvement in different areas, especially in certain defensive aspects of our game. It was in response to some saying there was "literally no progress at all" which is a load of hogwash and you know it. And we judge on blocks, not individual games.

As for why it's "different", no one said it was in regards to our prospective ladder finish, however we've made about 20 list changes in the last 2 years with a focus on blooding games into youth and most would've had us worse/losing those games in 2025.

Most were thinking we'd go in underdone and hope for small signs in big losses. We've defied that so far. Instead of lauding them for that or giving them the benefit of the doubt we're getting melts after one game. As if no one expected drubbings this year considering the demographic we're going with and the build we're on. Like get real.

Absolutely spot on. The theme of the board all week was that we had little to no hope and we’d get badly exposed. That happened and it’s like we went in as $1.10 favs and got rolled.

Watching the game it looked worse than a 90 point loss.

Laverde - got embarrased by west. But even poorer was lack of leadership for a senior player. How poor was it watching him just stand next to west after he did a too small celebration too a young teammate. Not even a scuffle. Thanks for your service shouldn't play again. I turned off after that.

Not changing the bont, English, dale match ups.

Mcgrath and shiel taking kick ins. Bitchers of bomberland.

You can lose by 90 points but some of the above is inexcusable.

Laverde, goldstein, shiel, Langford, should all be dropped.

Scott should also spend a week coaching vfl as well. Hope the reviews challenges poor coaching as well.

guelfi, johnshon, visenti, menzies/Cox/gerryn.

Also merret carrying something? A lot of time fwd the last 2 weeks and shanking more kicks.

Again ? when did we not suck ?

The saddest part of all this?

We dont even know when it will turn. You've been pretty stern on it getting worse but far out, when the **** will this club actually have any resemblance of relevance

2 years? 5 years we might win a final? that'd 25 years

Quality of the opposition and the margin don’t really concern me.

What is of obvious concern is that we have now played 9 games and for two of them we have looked completely underprepared, undercooked and not up for it. Which is entirely to do with how they prepare.

The harsh reality is if you are even half a percent off you will get pumped, it almost doesn’t matter who you play. The Dogs are probably the one side that haven’t experienced a significant and heavy defeat this year.

Up to Brad to identify what made this week different from last week and bury it.

It’s never as bad as it seems and it’s never as good…that’s the take away for me…

Watching the dogs flick the ball around and keep it moving I don’t get how they’ve lost games playing like that…perhaps they played out of their skins and everything worked…

I dunno, I don’t think we were that bad…it’s just we got punished at every opportunity

Waiting for the obligatory "that's not us" interview this week.
Unfortunately for year upon year upon year, what we served up last night is 100% Essendon.

FFS , when does it end. When is it enough?

Other rebuilding teams play a better brand of football than Essendon.
We are atrocious and have been for longer than I care to remember.

the highlight of my night was all the young kids desperately trying to make good banter about how shit we are and failing miserably

That is what happens when a club makes a string of average decisions in a few areas.
I believe the football department / recruiting department know we suck and we need to change. That is the first step. Leaving the question around is Scott the guy aside we simply need Rosa and Vozzo to hold the course that they started at the end of last season. There will be short term decisions like Jones that look questionable but they just have to draft like they did last year and keep brining in the competitive types. Thankfully our NGA guys despite their issues are real competitors as well.
When it happens? who knows.3 years. 5 years. 7 years. It has to start somewhere with fresh ideas.

I’m worried about another second half of the year fade-out. Looked lethargic yesterday, and they were running on the spot second half against Sydney.

If we fade-out again it will be three years on the trot, and that’s not including all the times it’s occurred over the last 15 years.

We are young, so it’s somewhat forgivable, but the conditioning of this team should be under the spotlight in my opinion. From reports this pre-season there wasn’t a lot of running at training, mainly skills work. That’s fine, but it’s only fine if the boys are hitting their numbers away from the club. It’s a watch for mine…

I can report that they did plenty of fitness work and they where expected to be pushing personal bests on their return from the break which they did. Can also say that they did most of the match sim off the back of some solid full ground drills and some repeat sprints with just a quick drink then into the match sim. Any reports that they have not done a lot of running are simply wrong. The track watchers just have not seen it as it is not always at the same time as the skills sessions.

There’s badly exposed and than there’s what happened last night

Many of us expected a loss. Not a 90 point loss….

There’s levels of shitness, last night set a new bar which is where I think you’ll find the grievance lies

So often we just don't look like we can tackle - they looked a team full of Nick Daicos' the way they side stepped our players from the bits I saw and I have no intention of watching the full match. When they played Freo here (granted there was no Bont) they struggled for any space or clean movement. In part its organisation, running power and tackling ability.

Redman already gave that interview in the dressing rooms, so you can tick it off your list.

Ed Richards mentioned they barely trained coming back from Darwin and it felt like they were running on air last night after playing in those turgid conditions last week

I’m not excusing the performance as such, but margin aside, the method of the game went the way that most expected. We’d look multiple levels below a genuine contender because we’re a bottom 4-6 side who’ve taken advantage of a few winnable opportunities to date. IMO, the Adelaide loss was a significantly worse performance than that.

Not forgetting the Dogs have won 3 games in the last 5 by 70+ points. They’re a red hot, quality side.

We can only beat in front of us.

And we've beaten 5 of the bottom 6 by an average of 12 points and lost to 3 of the top 5 by an average of 41 points.

We're smack bang in the middle of the table. Again.
Had a couple of people suggest I was being negative when I posted this last week.

Bang in the middle might have been overly optimistic.

i with you, i knew we are shit before the first bounce of the season but the gap in last night's talent, skill and intensity was as stark as i have seen in years.

i think a lot of people who even had the smallest amounts of positivity got a real reality check last night.

all you can do is hope we are progressing forward under brad, even if it's just baby steps, but unfortunately at the moment, it still seems like we haven't even found the bottom yet. Which sucks

At the end of the day we were already a middling list learning new methods before we lost our 2 ruckman and defensive general.

The cupboard is bare, we just have to keep toiling away and hope we don't end the season with too much mental scar tissue.

Goldy can't do this alone for the year that much is clear. Either put vigo in the fire with him or grab something in the MSD, it's a must

I’m pretty confident that we’ll cop at least 2 more 60+ point beatings over the rest of the season, and probably have a couple of performances that’ll give us genuine hope that we’re closer than we think. The challenge is staying consistent with the reality of where we’re at and not getting sucked in as a fan base to the idea that we’re anything more than what we actually are. I’m prepared to give them some leeway considering the quality of opposition, but I want to see a 4 quarter response next week.

The main thing I really want to see is the coaching staff not panic and revert to playing more of the older guys at the expense of the kids and some character in tough games against the best sides where we show fight. We didn’t last night which is very disappointing, but we have in most of our games outside of the Crows game and last night.

You could argue that scott should have had someone on him from the start of the game, but when your down by 7 goals at qtr time you can’t tag your way back into it.

I didn’t see many posters saying dale was the man to stop either.
If the coaching group was any good they would have. Dale has been a high possession winner, initiating attack for them all year. If we scouted and watched tape of bulldogs we would know this. Good coaching would have a plan for negating him.
I agree you can’t tag your way from 7 goals down, but I saw no adjustments made at all while the game was going down the gurgler.
