Ruckmen don't win premierships, teams do!
And, all things being equal, a team with a dominant ruck is better than the team without.
First use of the ball puts the team on attack, who doesnt get this?
Darcy..."slow cumbersome lump"?
Weird take.
I'm backing Sean to get back to his best and better.
Yokai!
You only need one of them though… and Jackson is a more dominant and well rounded player than Darcy is.

And I prefer Voss as the number 2 ruck. For team structure 1 ruckman and Voss is better… even if Sean gets himself fit, he doesn’t really fit the sides structure.

This obsession with Jackson being a “unicorn” is ridiculous. The guy is a ruckman, pure and simple - it then becomes a straightforward debate on who is the better ruckman - and I’m firmly in the Jackson camp.

It was a good win and we played well aside from inaccurate goal kicking but it was right in our wheelhouse. GWS were not good at all and for the majority of the game they applied no pressure. But it was nice to catch a team on an off day for a change.

No one is questioning the guy as a person, he’s clearly a great bloke, certainly a better bloke than Ross the Boss…

But he’s just not that great a coach, and one swallow doesn’t make a summer. As good as that win yesterday was, we’ve had a few of these sort of wins in his tenure, and then backed up with absolute stinkers the next week.

We play Port coming off an 80 point loss at home next week… if we can’t win that, nothing will ever change.
Agreed, and we started the game completely asleep, as usual, but luckily GWS were unable to take advantage.

Agreed with others GWS were pretty shocking and left us heaps of room in the middle, but the pressure gauge was up and the stoppage work was a lot better; overall a win away from home is always welcome, especially first ever win at Engie stadium, so there's a lot of positives there...Freddy played much better and was hunting in the forward 50, Treacy whilst quieter with the goals was wreaking havoc with his physicality and pressure; Switta was much cleaner and involved etc, Chapman...much better, stronger in the contests, Erasmus whilst far from excellent was good enough to affect contest and get the ball moving, just needs to tidy up some of the kicking. Jackson - incredibly good, bordering on imperious; Simpson with his poise and speed off halfback is something to like a lot - + first goal for the club! Bolton outstanding. Andy and Caleb so much more like themselves.

More of this with the intensity with more speed of movement and the team will advance quicker to the stage they need to get to. It just can't be a fluke here or there, Justin's job now is to preach this all day long and get the team playing that way, and it might just turn things around for him. And get the team firing on all cylinders come the pointy end as clearly the players are good enough, overall. Here's hoping

There's enough valid criticism of Keli but I don't know why people are fixating on that call so much. It happens just about every game. Commentator gets excited, builds up to it, and then calls it a goal even though it's missed and has to correct himself. And in her defence, there really was no way Voss should have missed that.
Keli comes in for a lot of stick ...even before she opens her mouth...just cos...

Really, I thought Ras was one of our best kicking into forward 50. My only concern was that like Johnson he lacks awareness at times mind you it was far less than Johnson who just looks confused at the moment.

Some of his kicks were good, some a bit loopy and big hang time. I'm not being over-critical of Ras as was happy with his game, everyone here really knows he's harshly done by in terms of game time and getting dropped so quickly, he needs full games to gain confidence and perform well, he'll get better if he gets that opportunity.

I feel Erasmus takes his time then chooses a pretty good option and generally puts it to advantage. MJ on the otherhand takes his time then just bombs it as long as he can often not to advantage.

The scouting report on MJ has been completely different to reality. His clips showed him caressing the ball into the path of leading forwards and scouting reports had him as one of the best kicks in the draft with questions on his ability to win contested possession. Complete opposite of reality in the AFL. Im still super bullish on MJ though

He might take the right option by the time he takes the kick but its almost always not the best option in the passage of play. He'd be fired into the sun playing the way he does for Pies or Hawks. I dont want him dropped but he HAS to get better at moving it faster

Yeah but...
Say Darcy comes back all primed up from the WAFL...is clearly ( or arguably) the in form #1 ruck?
You don't say "we only need one" and move LJ out, do you?
All successful teams are built around the talent they have.
You don't trade out either unless you get more in return.
Which is not the same as we only need one, get rid.

The writing Darcy stuff off is silly IMV - let’s see how he goes back end of this year and next once he’s fully fit. It’s as bad as the ‘Ras is a hack with the ceiling if Sheridan’ brigade, when he’s played 12 full games.

We are a stoppage dominant team - rotating Darcy and Jackson can definitely work, and has worked. Darcy is not some lumbering hack. Subject to his recovery he’s good for a goal a game and a great outlet on the wings. He’s also a bloody good stoppage player, lays big tackles etc.

According the Gary Lyon “GWS have a lot of young players out there today” wtf Lyon we are younger than them 😂
They also had a lot of young people . he didnt say they were younger than us. he only mentioned a fact , THEy do have a lot of young players.

But we were the youngest team on weekend.

He kept going on about it as if that was the reason GWS were losing. He mentioned it on multiple occasions. Didn’t mention it once for us. They were literally the same team who beat Geelong in Geelong only last week.

They said Freo are younger on average, but have a lot more players played over 100.

Meanwhile both teams had 9 players over 100 games. Giants had 3 over 200 and we had none. We also had more players under 50 games

To be entirely fair Keli upsets a lot of people because she's the wrong gender...

Ridiculous take. There's great female commentators across many different codes of sport and Kelli isn't one of them.

Kelli implements of lot of absurd cliches, makes basic factual errors about players (names, stats) and the general read of play. The whole 'Freo fans hiding behind the couch' thing was hilariously bad because she said it about 15 times during the match if not more.

True commentating is a bit of an art form that's gone by the way-side in footy since replacing real commentators with ex-players for the past several years. There were times when commentators were true experts on every player named on the field, nuance was used often with comedic timing, the big moments were made truly memorable by great commentators. Cometti wasn't loved by a lot of Freo fans, but he was the last real deal as a commentator.

Not a Collingwood fan but that ridiculous 'wowee' by James Bradshaw in the GF a couple of years ago sums up the standard in modern footy.

But of a deviation but I feel an important one.

WE only hear what we want to hear.

I heard him mention us.
